The best of all the British invasion lead singers. None of the rest of the British lead singers brought his mix of rock, blues, and strong touch of folk/Celtic sound. There are some The Who songs that literally take me to a music of Irish 18 century celebrations around the fire. Just so raw and powerful.
We see a lot of people in the comments saying that we reacted to the wrong version of the song. We are going to upload a reaction to the version you guys want version very soon.
You will be blown away by the ending of the real version of Love Reign O'er Me, where Keith Moon puts on a drum clinic for the ages!!!! BTW, another awesome song on the Quadrophenia album is: "The Punk and the Godfather". An absolute banger, with Roger Daltrey singing at his peak!
What you need to know about Love Reign O'er Me is, on the Quadrophenia album, the main character Jimmy was contemplating suicide on the 3 songs preceding Love Reign O'er Me. As he sat on a rock during a storm, drinking a bottle of gin as the tide rose around Jimmy and the rock, he suddenly realized it was foolish for him to kill himself because the only thing that really matters is love.
No, you missed the whole drum ending on that version. Keith goes OFF at the end. It doesn't end like that on the record. Re- listen to the album version and catch Keith going 🍌 bananas.
I hear for part of the end of the album version Keith was given a set of Tubular Bells to wail on for the crescendo, and instead he simply pushed them over, and that's the sound on the record.
Hey guys, I hate to say it but I much prefer the original, it’s criminal to me that the ending didn’t include Keith Moons epic drumming, an incredible let down. I recommend listening to the lyric version.
The Who have many great eras and albums but my favorite is their early live performances. Check out something from Live at Leeds - Young Man Blues, Amazing Journey/Sparks, Magic Bus, or my favorite My Generation. All are stripped down raw bangers showing the amazing abilities of each musician. It's some of Pete's best work driven by John's driving base and Keith's machine gun fills. INCREDIBLE!!!
Saw The Who twice in Seattle. Believe me, they sound so incredible live. This song made me cry in awe every time. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam favorite band and released his version of the song. ❤️
Yes, some of the remixing going on today, takes away the rawness of the original versions. It's like trying to make something too perfect. Like the early, simply produced Aerosmith great music, compared to the later overproduced 90's Aerosmith.
I started listening to The Who when I was 10 in 1967 I grew up with The Who to one of the best bands there's so many great bands I can't choose just one from that era
CastleW is for "Castle Walls" an awesome deep cut by the band STYX (A good start for Styx would be: "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue"). As mentioned, the original album version is preferred by most fans instead of this re-mix version (maybe youtube video with lyrics is not as HQ as the vinyl). I think the original CD had some significant tape hiss. "Won't Get Fooled Again" off the "Who's Next" album is what I suggested after this one (another epic song) and then "Eminence Front". Heart, Bad Company, and the Eagles round out my top 7 bands (Styx, The Who, Boston, Foreigner, Heart, Bad Company, Eagles).
Heaven & Hell on the Live At Leeds, deluxe double album. It has been said that this is thee best live performace of any band, group. Starts the album w/ a bang!😮
They are also probably the greatest live band ever. Do yourself a favor and react to Young Man Blues live at the Isle Of Wight. This can show you the fierce power of The Who’s live performances. I saw them in 1975 and it still resonates as the best band I ever saw in concert
It's rare for any group to hit the golden trifecta but these guys did it, Tommy, Who's Next and Quadrophenia, they were Gods along with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin who also hit the golden trifecta (OK Zeppelin had 4 in a row as did Floyd) but those 3 groups were just so awesome, when you're 15, 16 and 17 listening to ALL this in the same time frame, it was amazing to be alive, yeah the pot helped too.
Where that flute come from?...didnt know Ian Anderson(Jethro Tull fame), or Chris Woods of Traffic performed on this here album😮. BTW u need to get the original studio album w/o the enhanced orchestra. Also the playlist is in the orgin order which makes a big difference. Just a suggestion as these aformentioned bands far surpass ELO, Pink Floyd, Stones, Zep, Beatles...
the word quadrophenia is not in the dictionary, because it a word that pete townshend made up,its about a kid called jimmy, who had four personalities, which is classed as a schizophrenia, hence the word quadrophenia
The Synthesiser, Piano, and guitar are all played by Pete Townsend. The album was released in 1973 and the film in 1979. You missed my comment out from the last reaction, I also recommend this song and another from the same album, The Real Me, it's another Who classic
You switched from the original album version to the movie soundtrack version, that adds orchestration. It's good but the raw original version is better.
The ending you heard just now was not how the song ends. You missed the climax of the song. Not only are the who great musician's, they are artists that create way more than just a basic rock song. The who is probably the hardest band to duplicate. Most bands if not all can't play their songs
This is not the version off the album . The reason why there were 7 million views on the first one you started to play is that's the one every one knows.
What’s with the flute and the horns? I’ve never heard this version. Sounds a little over produced to me. Enjoyed your reaction nonetheless. The Who rock. Check out Bargain or The Song is Over off of Who’s Next.
You need to watch the movie Tommy from their album it has Elton John Tina Turner Roger Daltrey is the Pinball Wizard Elton John song All Kinds of Songs in that movie let me know how you'd like it or don't like it
That ending was not right. It faded off way to quickly. Find the original version. They started around’64 and I finally got to see them a few years ago. Two original members left.
Too bad it still had about a minute of Keith Moon turning his bass drums into pulp and Pete Townshend skinning his guitar alive. You picked the wrong version.
This is a version I've never heard before. Interesting. But they buried the Who in the mix to showcase the orchestra. Nice orchestration but way too busy to be put that far in the foreground. Obviously a labor of love, though.
There is a problem with that version and that is that the drums are literally silenced. No matter how much you like that version, you got to listen to the other versions because the drummer Keith Moon is off the charts destroying the entire song with his drum Dominance. As far as you guys comparing them to ELO, if you grow up in the 70s in high school where we were, you would have been bullied. No one and I mean no one would ever dare compare ELO to the best of the best, The Who. If you grew up in the 70's, it was always The Who 1st & Led Zeppelin 2nd or Led Zeppelin 1st & The Who 2nd because only those two groups had the raw power and energy that absolutely no one else could come close to so to compare ELO to The Who, you would have been punished and abused cuz everyone knew much better than that back during the real hey day of rock and roll. Never in my life or anyone that I know has anyone dared compare ELO to The Who. They are truly uncomparable and you guys obviously don't know true music like me and my generation did. Our Generation knew that the biggest difference between The Who and Led Zeppelin was the singers because Rodger Daltrey brought that masculine hardcore manly singing Style where Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin brought his fruity, la la la la la sound and Rodger Daltrey would die before he would ever sing la la la in a song
Sorry but the song you listened to through was bad. You have to get the original for the original intent. Remasters and re-anything no matter the sound quality lack this. I started to watch and then stopped the moment I heard the f ed up version you went with. FYI.
This remastered version with added orchestration is frankly shit compared to the original arrangement. It muddies and suppresses key phrasing and instrumentation throughout the piece, and abruptly truncates the powerful climactic ending. Whoever decided this was a good thing should be taken to the woodshed. Highly disappointing, but good to know that it exists so it can be avoided.
I just saw them live on New York last week. Roger Daltry, the singer, is 78 years old AND HE KILLED IT!!!!!!!!!!
The best of all the British invasion lead singers. None of the rest of the British lead singers brought his mix of rock, blues, and strong touch of folk/Celtic sound. I must have heard this song thousands of times in my life and I still have the same reaction as you guys. MASTERPIECE. LONG LIVE THE WHO!!! 🤟
No, you missed the whole drum ending on that version. Keith goes OFF at the end. It doesn't end like that on the record. Re- listen to the album version and catch Keith going 🍌 bananas.
It was like listening to Comfortably Numb without the guitar solo
@@bradb3248 right...how could such an abomination occur? Hahahaha.
I hear for part of the end of the album version Keith was given a set of Tubular Bells to wail on for the crescendo, and instead he simply pushed them over, and that's the sound on the record.
I’m a RUSH fan and my son is a RAGE fan and I told him he had to buy Quad
Sent him a clip of u cool dudes doing this epic track
Mount Rushmore indeed
1977 Was The First Time Listening To This Album. Changed My Life!✌🏻🏴
Quadrophenia just had it's 49th birthday last week. The greatest Rock Opera in history was released in 1973.

Eddie and PJ did the best version outside of the Who.
This version may have had better audion but the first one is twice as good as this one

@David Judd yes!
No matter how many times I hear this song I still get chills
The intensity is is real gentlemen. 57 years old still love it.
I started listening to The Who when I was 10 in 1967 I grew up with The Who to one of the best bands there's so many great bands I can't choose just one from that era
Album released in 1973. There were so many great groups in the 70s.
This of course is an "enhanced version" where additional effects and instrumentation are added through interesting digital algorithms.
CastleW is for "Castle Walls" an awesome deep cut by the band STYX (A good start for Styx would be: "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue").

Funny you say dying. It's in my will that this song be played at my funeral. At high volume. I want the mourners to feel it. 🤣
My generation live at Leeds is another one
Great reaction guys ❤️

Pearl Jam’s version from VH-1 Honors is amazing.
When someone asks beatles or stones... the answer is THE WHO!

Do you guys even realize you listened to the much lesser version of this? It gets even BETTER.
Another good Who song is Magic Bus, it's an earlier piece
Listen to the previous tracks, Doctor Jimmy and The Rock, as they lead into this song.
You Need To Play The FULL Album On A Reaction.✌🏻😏
What should we react to next from the Who?
The Real Me...for outrageous bass.
My Wife...one of my favorites (never gets love) great drums. Written by the bass player. John Entwhistle.
Concert for New York 2001 they stol the show💥💥💥💥
@@michaelakkerman407 ......you got it....The real me
I agree with the others: "The Real Me". Can you see the real me, can ya.......CAN YA???????????????????
Anyway, Anyhow Anywhere.
That was cut off short. The real ending is much more grand.

@@alteredaustin1 you are right I was getting confused with the film, which was 1979
Somebody has to react to My Wife, by The Who (lyrics version). It’s funny as hell and has GREAT drums.
Did you guys just listen to the wrong version . . major fail.
You switched from the original album version to the movie soundtrack version, that adds orchestration. It's good but the raw original version is better.

Wrong version you listened too sorry dudes
It's the movie version I think. Not the best by far
Symphonic orchestra behind, with string and flute arrangement and no rain sounds, shorter too.
The version you initially started with is actually the better version, this one came across as very muffled.
That ending was not right. It faded off way to quickly. Find the original version.

Am I the only one who prefers this song without all this orchestration? It kind of hides the drums and guitar
These guys are clueless. Figure out the version to play first-the original from Quadrophenia.
duh!
Flute ruins it for me. If I've been listening to the wrong version for the last nearly 50 years. I'll stick with that.
