    Just watched 7 videos on this. You CLEARLY have the best method. Bull Point Chisel in a Rotary Hammer Drill for the win.

      What setting on your drill did you find most effective with the bull head bit? Hammer? Drill?

    sweet video. thank you. This is what I wanted to see to understand what we are dealing with when we reface ours.

    Agreed. Would love to see part 2. I have a very similar fireplace built in 1980 that I'm going to do the exact same thing to. Thanks for a helpful video.

    My fireplace was built in 1971. It’s solid and rustic I would never tear it down. Love it

    Buy paper and a drop cloth or two! You’ll protect the floor from dust, damage, and you can easily scoop up debris in the drop cloth throughout the demo.

    Interesting, I was thinking the bottom part was solid, but you had a treasure chest inside. I just want to remove the bottom part and have the brick on the wall.

    • @keithcastleberry3993
      @keithcastleberry3993 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want the same thing but after watching this you would have to salvage about 30 bricks and mortar them under the fireplace to the wall. It would take good skill and patience to make it look uniform as if original.

    • @alanheadrick7997
      @alanheadrick7997 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@keithcastleberry3993 Might depend how easy they come off. I think if you had lots of time you could do it. Also a hand grinder with a ceramic cutting disc would help a lot.

    • @lisam2079
      @lisam2079 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a requirement by your insurance to keep the lower part (called the "hearth" of the fireplace) in case the fireplace has any sparks or ashes. It's a fire hazard otherwise, so if you remove the bottom, you'll need to tile the bottom floor portion.

    • @alanheadrick7997
      @alanheadrick7997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lisam2079 The living room is tile so shouldn't be an issue.

    How do you remove those brackets? They are a real pain and nasty metal/embedded nails.

    • @pardeepkang8812
      @pardeepkang8812 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! I focused on removing the bricks from the wall. Removed the brackets once the bricks were off. Used a hammer or cut off that part of the drywall which I was going to replace anyway. Good luck!

    • @susanmead4350
      @susanmead4350 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pardeepkang8812 I ended up cutting the metal bands (16th of an inch in, at a time) with aviation snips, until there was no more than the size of the nail head. Then, with a ball peen hammer, set the nail and remainder of metal deep enough to mud over the pit/hole.
