    The whole "permission-based training" really resonated with me when iI started thinking about the Amazon I worked with for about a year and a half. A lot of her cues for tricks are even already formatted as questions: "Can you sing?" "What's the kitty say?" "Can you call the kitty?" :)

    Dave and Jamieleigh, this a great video and so important! You clearly defined the common mistake of "luring" which is counterproductive and contradictory to trust building. I love the term "permission based training". It extends the meaning of positive reinforcement. Great job and thanks so much for sharing!

    Love these videos. I'm an animal lover and love to see the difference in training predator pets vs prey pets. When your pet is ancestrally predatory (dogs, cats, etc.) Your training technique needs to be dominant. You need to hold your ground and tell the animal what to do and reward it for obedience. When your pet is ancestrally prey (birds, horses, etc.) Your training technique is about give and take. You essentially entice the animal to do what you want. The reward for doing what you ask is a mix of treat and relief of stress by giving them space (even momentarily) before asking them to do it again.

    Very informative video Jaimie!! I love videos like this so much because working with animals comes naturally to me for the most part, but it’s all of the minute subtle things with training that add up to to be very important later on, and these type of videos always help me to catch my own mistakes! Thanks for making me a better trainer guys!❤️

    This is how people should train dogs as well! I see a lot of dogs that are hugged and kissed and held tight when they're clearly signaling that they don't want to. Meanwhile, the owner says the dog loves hugs and kisses. Some do love hugs and kisses when they're in a cuddly mood, but it's not nearly as common as people think. And just like us, they want the ability to say "okay, that's enough" after a while. You just have to pay attention and respect it.

I watched dat vid of wen u went to visit Storm, how excited he was to c u and how beautifully he flew across the cage to u. I gota say i think of stormy alot. The bond u have with all the birds is lovely to c and Storm is 1 of my all time favs ☺️

    Thank you! I found this video very helpful. My Red Lord Amazon. and I will be much more trusting, in doing more together! But, boy she does not want anyone to try and pick her up off my shoulder. And my poor husband 🥴At first, Pippa would lunge at him. I taught her to stop 🛑 that.
    She’s my little angel 😇. Most of the time lol. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. People think they can do it they’re way. But it’s about the Amazon needing you to make her feel as comfortable as possible. After all, it’s the least we can do for them since she wasn’t asked if she wanted to be caught. If that’s the case for wild and free all exotic parrots 🦜.

    Sure there are lots of “dog trainers” who use out dated command focused and compulsion training. But there are lots of us who use the same +R, founded in science techniques that you guys do with birds. I suspect that because dogs are domesticated they are willing to put up with more of our shit. Love watching your videos even though I don’t have a parrot. Happy training!

    Hello!
    I try to make a project with holographic parrot. Can you make a video with your pretty bird (and his perch) on the black smooth background? With close plan, with all the bird is seeing. It must be just his natural behavior and speaking, hanging up or so. Duration: 20-60 mins

    Please, tell me how better to hold as a pet, one or one pair of blue fronted amazon? I have a boy (near 4 years old ) and recent i got an 8 months old girl for him. In the last few weeks, he's become aggressive towards me. Will it be permanent or shortly? What am I supposed to do to keep him on my side? Thanks! I am very anxious and nervous about his attitude and I would like to know if he will return to me as he was before or not. What should I do? I am a poor old man who has in this world only a parrot and a few dollars a day, the vets ask me many hundreds of dollars for a little advice. Shame on them! Please can someone help me with a free advice. Thank you !

    So not commands, requests.
    But doesn't body language also play a part in bird training? If your timid and afraid the bird will feel dominant correct? So isn't it a balance of human assertive behavior and request?
    Because her body language is not assertive, shes too hypersensitive to the birds display of reluctance. (An opinion)

      @@BirdTricks I Grew up around horses, and in my experience animals in general feel our energy shifts. We want an animal to feel confident in our ability to lead, or provide, yet let them know it is still their choice and we will not force them. It stuck with me growing up.😊
      My parrot Chip taught me a lot about projecting intent, I think it's a joint effort to learn eachother😁

      @BirdTricks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lydia V yes! We talk about “intention training” and using your energy and intent to communicate what you want from the animal in our family friendly parrot course 2 so this is really great to hear and so very important and true. 💕 cool to hear someone else talk about it!!
