I dig it only wish I could weld now😂I like the long tongue tho means the further the truck is from the water and with boat ramps where I’m at that’s a blessing.
I wish I had half your welding skills. But I haven’t welded since my high school shop class back in the late 80’s. However I did get a free trailer from Offer Up that I refurbished and I used left over Trex boards from our deck for my bunks which will never rot and covered them with outdoor carpet that I got at Lowes for $8. Cleaned the hubs , installed bearing buddies, new winch stand, rollers, submersible led lights in the back, new safety chains, all new wiring and of course finished with matte black paint. Works beautifully for someone who never did this kind of work before.
@@SendItJonBoats I do indeed. Get my float pods today for my 12’ Grumman car topper to deal with the weight issue when sitting in rear seat, my fat (220) a**, plus the new 9.9 Tohatsu motor I got a week and a half ago. I plan on bolting and sealing with 5200 then attempting to braze around the outer edges to give it a nice (sort of) welded look. Got medium size instead of small from Backwater Inc. who recommended them even for my small boat to get 150lbs more of floatation. Will see what happens. Wish me luck.
Thanks Nate, in my mind it made sense but I had no idea other companies were doing the same thing. That makes me feel a little better but hell it worked out just fine so I am happy with it.
Trailer turnet out perfect, FYI Menards sells solid plastic/nylon 4x4 fence posts in black, rip em in half and u got 2 maintenance free new bunks for about 30 bucks
My trailer is in need of some repairs due to rust out. Thank for some of the ideas.... I have been wanting to add a step on the side for years and the step up front is new too. I usually hop in the the bed of the truck and then balance on the tongue. Having a wider spot on the tongue just makes sense. Also, I have a longer trailer too. It is nice being able to turn it all the way to jack knife without the front of the boat taking out my brake lights on the truck. It also makes backing it up a little easier too.
Just a good tip from a certified welder here. Ya know, one of the guys that would chime here you gave a shout out to in the video... You are welding Galvanized. Highly hazardous. Make sure you have really good ventilation / extraction and grind away all that zinc coating before you weld. It can and will kill you.
I did grind the galvanizing from the areas that I welded from the original trailer. Forgot my respirator but I made sure the galvanizing was grinded back away.
As far as tongue length is concerned, the longer it is the easier it is to back. You just have to make a wider forward turn so you don’t run over anything. Awesome tutorials, love the step by step “instructions” and advisory comments. Thank you very much.

Hey man , you do good work, clean , solid, common sense, I think it looks great. Also I stopped giving a crap about what people thought when I started paying my own bills. Great video just found your channel and I’m enjoying them all .
In Georgia we can build homemade trailers. Just get a vin plate from the tag office, rivet the vin plate on and get it inspected. Then they register it no problem.
Great video. I need to do the same exact thing, only to use with a semi-v 12 ft aluminum boat. For the time being I'm using a Harbor Freight 8x4 trailer. Works ok, but not ideal. One question, I just got a HF tig welder and don't know much about tig welding. I can't really see since the video is speeded up, but did you make some welds without filler rod? I didn't think that was possible, and was used only for tack welds.
Yee Yee! Send it! LOL. I appreciate it BigBoyBob, I just like to give the haters a fair warning that I could care less what they think, so when their BS comments get deleted they will know why.
Have you tried to build stick-steer, what I call an old man boat, where the driver gets the front never has to walk around? I don't get around real good, I've seen the new ones but I can't see putting that kind of money in something that I would not use that much.
Many Many hours on TH-cam, lots and lots of practice, some cussing, more practice, more youtube, reading, studying, practice, cussing, more practice. I taught myself, wasn't easy but it can be done. I am about to start re-teaching myself how to tig weld.

Badass! I'm going to try this next summer/spring my trailer is a piece of shit would love to redo it like this didn't realize I could get a welder for $225 off amazon that can plug into a standard wall outlet - another thing I would love to learn
What the hell are you thinking? That C-channel is wrong, you used the wrong welder to do it, and your bunk boards are gonna be rotten by next week. And that tongue! What are trying to launch your boat without you truck having to leave the parking lot? And that finish. Rattle cans? Really? That thing shoulda been hot powder dip coated with an elastomeric polylaminar dipole surfactant membrane. As a minimum! And where in the world did you get 60/40 as a balance ratio? Everyone knows it should be 54.7% ahead of the axle and 45.3% behind. This is the only ratio that prevents harmonic standing wave frequency resonance from projecting perpendicularly from the fantabulator bearings of the tow vehicle. Hey, seriously though, it came out great. It looks as though all the ideas are working as planned. That's the real measure of success for a personal build; if it does what you wanted it to do. When I rebuild my trailer, I will probably be stealing a few of your ideas. I like that step platform on the tongue, and the step up pegs on the riser as well. Thanks for all the details. I appreciate you sharing your personal experience and knowledge on the various techniques and products. Your honest assessment of less than stellar products (I'm looking at you bunk foam), and how you dealt with the problems, is very helpful. What doesn't work is often more important than what does. I really enjoy your videos, I've learned a bunch since I found your channel. Nice production quality too.

Cyberspace speed will probably be okay, now when you hit warp speed it may start to shred.
Lmao thanks
How did you register this trailer and what papers was required
In Georgia we can build homemade trailers. Just get a vin plate from the tag office, rivet the vin plate on and get it inspected. Then they register it no problem.
Next time you replace bunks use 2x4 PVC
Had a bunch of folks suggest that. I will look into it.
Mine is not a tig welder, it is flux core. It feeds wire as you weld. Works really good.
@@SendItJonBoats Oops... I should have known that, since I had a wire feed welder. Don't know why I thought it was a tig.
Don’t let anyone tell you what to do to your boat. It’s your boat and your money so send it and screw them
Yee Yee! Send it!
I have never built a stick steer but they do look fun.
What would it cost to have my 12 foot V hull aluminum boat hydro dipped ? Something similar to the camo on your boat.
Newb question but how did you learn to weld? I am wanting to do my own repairs to my trailer but don't know where to start
Many Many hours on TH-cam, lots and lots of practice, some cussing, more practice, more youtube, reading, studying, practice, cussing, more practice. I taught myself, wasn't easy but it can be done. I am about to start re-teaching myself how to tig weld.
Where'd you get the boat from & how much??
I built it from an old piece of crap jon boat. All the videos are on my channel.
@@SendItJonBoats Fashoooo, cause I'm looking for something for Catch-Realease Alligators for Conservation & Research purposes on my channel and need something I can get up to a 5 foot American Alligator into to get its measurements & vitals
@@SendItJonBoats Is it the Project Bottomland Bateau playlist??
Ugh.... You doing it all wrong. Ok I was just joking. Like the idea of a step up front, I will be adding one to my rig. I do enjoy your attitude, (I didn't do it your way) I'll fix it better next time if it fails. Well done.
Thanks Mike, I really appreciate it. But yeah I could care less what the haters and key board warriors have to say, but I at least take the time to acknowledge them in the video so they won't feel left out when I delete their BS comments. I'm not like other youtubers, and I actually read every single comment.
Are they just plain 2x6's ....?
No, they are specialty treated with strawberry icecream, and aged in porta potties for 6 months to preserve the wood grains.
Just a fair warning if you dip your boat in any kind of salt water check where your bunks sit on the bottom the salt will eat the aluminum as it dries I had this problem with carpet on my old aluminum boat trailer.
My boat has gator glide on the bottom, no worries about the aluminum reacting with salt water.
how much did it cost to build
No clue, I kept all my receipts so I can do a video once the boat is complete on the final cost. .
I love you're build best one I've seen . im about to start working on my 1978 fisher marine 15' has a home made mud motor looks sketchy af but the motor its self is new might halfto get a mud skipper kit
Sketchy is my middle name! I love sketchy stuff! LOL Nice work on the home made build, go full send with it!
I’d build it exactly the same way I might consider using gator glide on the bunks but looks good to me
I would have loved to gator glide on the bunks, but I was out. The foam actually turned out really good. I will use it on future builds.
I love your smart ass comments because you were spot on on everything you say… There are Internet TH-cam rocket scientist that work at McDonald’s… They don’t know shit don’t know jack shit ain’t about shit but yet they’ll tell you how to do your stuff… It looks bad ass man
Gotta give the haters somethings to complain about LOL. I just enjoy calling them out instead of trying to argue with them in the comments sections. Thanks for the kind words Ronald
Hey man! Great channel! I’m putting together a custom g3. And my question is can I buy hoodies and send it decals for my 1860. I’m just wrapped it and don’t want those ugly ass g3 decals???
Hey bud, I do not have decals and stuff yet, still working on that. Send me an email and I can send you the image file and any local vinyl shop will make you the decals in any size and color you want. chris@atfhydrographics.com
@@SendItJonBoats my email is patontheriver@icloud.com
Thanks man!
In the way, that I am a not surfer but I can surf. I am not a welder but I can weld. I know how to glue metal together.
Badass! I'm going to try this next summer/spring my trailer is a piece of shit would love to redo it like this didn't realize I could get a welder for $225 off amazon that can plug into a standard wall outlet - another thing I would love to learn
Heck yeah man, I got my welder from Harbor Freight for less than 200 and it runs on a standard wall outlet. Love it so far.
OMG I am still laughing at your comment, I started reading and was like what da f.....ohhh lol. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate you making me laugh and glad you enjoyed the video.
Send it
Yee Yee!
So I messed up and got the wrong new car... It's going to look awkward as hell trying to back down the boat ramp in a Cadillac SRX... 😑
LMAO
@@SendItJonBoats it does have awd tho so maybe that helps? 😅
@@koreywilliams4570 AWD and mud tires on the back only! LOL
