Thank you so much for the video. It is very helpful! I was trying to create a waffle chart but there was always an error message telling me two data sets dont have a relationship. What mistake could I make?Any tips please? Thanks again!
Thank you for sharing. My data sources are not blending through creation of the formula. It is still asking me to blend. When I try custom blend, the fields for the secondary (waffle template) data do not show up. Any ideas why this might be happening? I am using Tableau Public
Great video and easy to follow. I have a question that seems simple although I can't figure it out and all the videos I watch seem to only have one color represented for each waffle chart. So - How can I make a single waffle chart measures more than one category? For example, in your video, how can you get North America, Japan, etc to show up on a single waffle chart with different colors? So just having one waffle chart with different category measures that collectively add up to 100%. Thanks
just a thought - why would I need to create the standard waffle template manually? All that could be included in Tableau by default..?! I don't need to create a template for a bar or line chart every time..
Does a Table Calculation work? Instead of the calculated field? I am trying to figure out how to create a calculated field for ONE Hierarchy. Or would it be best if I created a pivot table for the additional fields/hierarchies?
Nice video. Unfortunately, it doesn't work ( doesn't refresh) when I add the filters from my primary data source. I understand this happens because Tableau does not know what are the relationships between two data sources... I am wondering are there any workarounds for this?
Great video. Now say if I have a dataset and one of the attributes is "yes" and "no" answer. (For example, retention), and I want to create waffle chart shows a percentage of people who says 'Yes'. How do I do that?
Hi Merumomo, in this case you can use exactly the same approach. You will calculate the "yes" portion (yes as a percentage) and apply in the same manner as we did for the sales portion.
Very useful, thanks! I was able to replicate your steps except that I’m having issues with the annotate-mark part. The percentage disappears when I use the filter specifically when I don’t choose All. Do you know how I can fix it?
Nice video. I tried myself to do it once but Tableau couldn't stop asking for a relationship between the 2 sources. Do you know why and how did you manage that? Is it because the waffle file has to be my primary source? Thanks for jour answer.
Hi Christelle, Thanks for adding to this thread. This may be due to the version you are using. The relationship is setup using a calculated field @ 10:20
Hi Furkan, this is typically shown when you have not defined the relationship between the two datasources being blended on. In this case we do not need to define it, so you can ignore the error message. (edited)
Hello, I'm trying to do the same but instead of data in columns I have it in 1 column and I'm trying to apply if and then get sum for the region. All this works fine but when I create the color field and use it, it asks me to create relationship bw waffle template and my original data.... But there is no linkage. Any idea how I solve this?
Great Video very helpful, Now how can I make this dynamic, so when Im drilling down on an dashboard, looking into vairous catagories, it changes respectivly. I have tryed adding in filters but this doesnot help
Hi Luke. Thank you, and we are happy to hear you are finding this helpful. In order to achieve what you describe, the data will need to be formatted differently and you will need to calculate an overall sales portion before introducing a filter.
Hi. Thank you for your responce, are you able to shed any more light on this, an additioanl source that I can view that can answer my question? Possible go into more detail excatly what you mean by formatted differently. Thank you
Hi Luke, You will need to format the data differently based on what you want to filter on. For instance, if you will be filtering on a hierarchy, your calculated field will need to be more dynamic to be able to determine the overall sales (or whatever field you calculating) on. The data in the example was based on static selections per region, which we placed in separate columns. If you for instance have the total sales figure in a single column, this till make filtering possible. Unfortunately I could not find any resources dealing with filters in Waffle charts. It might be a good idea to post this on the Tableau Community, you might just come across another Tableauer that has accomplished this already.
Hi, when I did the same using my data source, I'm getting an error saying the cannot blend the data on the secondary data source as the aggregation is unsupported. please can you advise how can we fix this. thanks

Did you find any workarounds? I am stuck at the same problem.
I cannot find the dataset on the website - does anyone have a direct link, please?
Hi I am able to create the waffle chart but my columns are not filling up with squares there is too much space in between squares any suggestions?
My dashboard is cramped and I can't see the individual symbols, what should I do? This was a great tutorial thanks!
So there are 🧇 chart, 🍭 chart & 🍩 chart. Love these names 🤓
Really concise and helpful. Thank you.

Kirill always the best!! Thanks for this nice tutorial
Many thanks for tuning in Mohamed!

Hi Christelle,

Beautiful video !! Why is my dashboard result crooked ? Any thoughts ? I tried adjusting the views, still doesnt look the way ur dashboard looked..
Hi Nagi, sometimes it may be tricky to move put dashboard elements at the right spot. Try to follow every step, select appropriate dashboard size, etc
Also, we have a video where we combined best practices to build a dashboard. Check it out - th-cam.com/video/Nr31rv9tsJ8/w-d-xo.html
Decrease the size of the shapes(in the marks tab) in the sheets and then try to insert sheets into Dashboards
Nice video. Could you help me? Why do get the warning '' In order to use fields form X data, a relationship needs to be created with Y data''???

@@ArtofVisualization How do you define the relationship? There are no common fields. I went to Data => Edit relationships but it is greyed out.

Hi Nanda. There is indeed no link necessary, I guess perhaps something went wrong with preparing the template?
I had the same error. I have been trying with several workarounds but anything worked. I did all the steps exactly like the tutorial.
@@netosilvestri1725 I am experiencing the same issue. Nothing I've tried has worked.
