      +Amelia Liana Hey Amelia! I'm a dietistic student and I just wanted to tell you that you shouldn't worry about drinking while eating, it actually helps digestion because water dilute the bolus. I myself don't drink much water when I'm eating because it makes me very full, but a glass or two is a good idea. Also, be careful with the burnt squash! burnt or smoked foods contain cancerous molecules, I don't mean to scare you, but those foods must be consumed in moderation ( as well as anything that is grilled or has had a direct contact with a flame). And you're right about the gluten: it is ok to consume it, it's not something that we must avoid at all costs, but in order not to develop a sensitivity to gluten or even become celiac, it is goog to avoid it when possible, such as your choice of gluten free oats.
      Oh, and about the water and lemon I have to say this to clear the air: it is healthy drink, a boost of vitamin C and antioxidants and, yes, when lemon is digested it is alkaline, as well as any kind of fruit or vegetable. But the notion that it makes your body alkaline is bull****. Life is at 7.35-7.45 pH, 7 is death and 7.2 is acidois. There you go.

      +Bianca Brescia Thanks for the information Bianca! I really appreciated your insight. I was under the impression gluten-free is being followed as a fad and actually only those that are gluten intolerant or celiac need to be avoiding gluten. But I will consider what you say and look into this further myself. Thanks again!

    To those of you frustrated that non-celiac sufferers are avoiding gluten - there are other diseases that are also treated by avoiding gluten. Most auto-immune disorders (of which celiac disease is one example) can and do go into remission by altering ones diet. I was told by my doctor to avoid gluten and dairy to treat my illnesses. I understand your frustration, many people eat GF, DF, and organic because it's trendy, but as others have pointed out, this makes eating and buying GF easier because it's more widely available. It would be lovely if we could focus more on education, and less on shaming. :)

    As someone who suffers from celiac disease it's so frustrating when people say "I'm trying to say off gluten" who don't suffer one bit from it. Just as FYI but gluten is in more than just bread and oats. And by making gluten free a "trendy" fad makes it more expensive for those who actually need these products! I'm not trying to be mean I'm just stating the obvious.

      slaterpuggs absolutely! I have Celiac Disease and a severe dairy allergy, as in my throats swells up, and when I see or talk to people who are "going gluten free" or are dairy free (and not because they are vegan), drives me crazy. I agree the fads jack up the prices for us that need it for survival. Oh god I hate it when I explain I have CD and a severe dairy allergy and someone says, "me too I don't eat gluten or dairy" Um not the same thing, you choose to spend $9 on a small loaf of gluten free bread because it's cool and I have to if I want a fucking sand which?!

  • @girlnotlocal
    @girlnotlocal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    i wish people would understand this, all Gluten is is Texture to breads and cereals, the reason some people don't eat it is for medical diagnoses, but for dietary reasons its so point, you gain the same calories,fat,sugars and carbs as you do eating gluten, so you may aswell enjoy regular breads and cakes which taste nicer, and cheaper, or simply cut it from your diet completely if you want to benefit yourself, other then that, gluten free product are not going to make you healthier or skinnier. save your money.

  • @0liviaaa29
    @0liviaaa29 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I love these video!! But agree with so many others it is unnecessary to cut out gluten.. It's become an almost trend to do it. And this doesn't promote a healthy relationship with food and encourages others to feel bad for eating gluten. Often gluten free foods are higher in fat./sugar to compensate for lack of gluten. Yes it is personal preference I totally get that and yes Amelia can eat what she wants and if it works for her and her health that's great but for others it simply isn't required to cut it out in order to be 'healthy', unless you have an intolerance.

    • @ingridp6852
      @ingridp6852 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Liv Cawley I totally agree, its become kind of a fad and it really upsetting cause such a small percentage of the population are actually gluten intolerant and they only way you know if you are is by a blood test ! now its fair to say that some food I've eaten are gluten free just because they taste good, but i don't believe you should centre your whole diet around the fact that everything must be gluten free :) Eating gluten if you aren't gluten free makes no difference to your weight, athletic performance ect. There was actually a great study on athletes who over 80% said they were gluten intolerant, over the course of a month gave 1/2 a gluten free diet and 1/2 a normal gluten diet and measured their athletic performance. Exactly the same. and only 1 of the athletes was actually diagnosed by a doctor as being gluten intolerant, the rest went to the internet to diagnose themselves. This was a great video, none the less and I'm looking forward to more video like this ! and honestly Amelia can do whatever she wants :)

  • @chloemay5993

    Oats do not naturally contain gluten. It is only necessary to eat gluten free oats if you have coeliac disease and may be sensitive to the contamination of oats with other gluten containing products during the manufacturing process. The only difference in gluten free oats is that they are manufactured away from other gluten containing products. It is completely obscene and a waste of money to eat gluten free oats which are usually double the cost of normal oats if you do not have coeliac disease or a severe sensitivity to gluten.
    I don't mean to criticise Amelia - as adults we can all choose to eat the way we want and it's great to see a better awareness of what we put in our bodies! But it's best to not believe all the health guru nonsense you read on Instagram.

  • @gyja9799
    @gyja9799 8 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Amelia, normal oats do NOT contain gluten.. there is absolutely no need to switch to gluten free. Those are only for (HIGHLY) allergic people who can choke because of there being a small cross contamination within the factory that packages them. Please don't fall into the hype of this, people really need to learn to understand what their foods actually contains, instead of focusing on certain buzzwords (such as glutenfree) and as a influencer, you can help them do that. Otherwise, lovely video and the dessert looked so yummy! :)

    • @nicolafitzgerald
      @nicolafitzgerald 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are nearly alway cross-contaminated by other grains as they are normally grown alongside wheat or barley. It effects me and I am celiac.

    • @gyja9799
      @gyja9799 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Nicola Fitzgerald Yes Nicola, it affects you BECAUSE you are celiac. Amelia says that she enjoys bagels and other things with wheat and gluten regularly, so for her it will make absolutely no real difference to have normal organic oats (which are naturally gluten-free) instead of (labelled) glutenfree oats, because she is NOT celiac.

    Amelia! Since you're not actually coeliac or intolerant, you don't need to buy gluten free oats - oats are naturally gluten free, but they *can* be contaminated either during harvesting or processing which is why they make GF ones. Save your pennies!

    There is literally no benefit to cutting out gluten unless you are a coeliac... Where are people getting this idea from

    • @makaronas202

      +Moonbaby Apparently studies suggest that there is one main benefit from going gluten free: it leads you to a better diet in general. I am a coeliac myself and seen a lot of my friends go gluten-free and loose a bunch of weight and they started to eat much better.

    • @JustJennifer
      @JustJennifer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Moonbaby Gluten gives me headaches, joint pain and foggy brain. Took me 15 years to discover this as I am not a coeliac. I cut out all gluten and feel 20 years younger. I love gluten laden foods and this has been very difficult for me, but now that I know how much better I feel, I will continue to be gluten free. Please don't assume that you know how gluten effects everyone. Thank you! :)

    Love your videos but eating gluten free 'when you can' is a very very annoying thing. It's people going out and saying oh Im gluten free but dont worry I'll have the bagel, etc. that leaves those suffering from coeliac disease struggling to be taken seriously or find safe food. The amount of times I have been told something is gluten free but upon further questions found it to involve something that would trigger my autoimmune reaction is incredible and it is because of the gluten free 'fad' eating that this occurs. Gluten free is not healthier for anyone but those who are coeliac or gluten intolerant. In fact, most of the time gluten free foods are more calorie dense and higher in fats etc.

    Leave her and everyone else in the world who makes the personal choice to not be vegan....just that. Leave them alone to make that personal choice.
    Or don't watch the videos

    • @diegointhephilippines
      @diegointhephilippines 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's not about personal choice but about so many more implications that come with eating meat. It affects us all, the earth and the animals. It's not like you are just affecting yourself.

      @carolinabridge 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +diegolitito there are ways to still eat some meat and fish and still help with sustainable living. It's about being educated. Not attacking everyone who doesn't choose the same lifestyle. Which most vegans do. It's what gives you a bad stereotype. You can educate while being respectful.

      +carolinabridge Well please explain to me how farming meat is more sustainable in comparison to farming plants, which is what vegans are advocating, farming and eating plants only. Furthermore, it is about education first and foremost. Most meat eaters aren't well educated about their habit of eating dead animal flesh. In addition to that, if it is about respect, like you state it, where is the respect for the life of other sentient beings, as all the farm animals are sentient beings? Vegans are not harming your lifes, just your ego, at most.

    I think this is a great video and you eat really well, your diet is full of nutritious, non processed foods. I would only suggest you research a little more about some of the choices you make. I won't go into the gluten thing, thats been done to death here, but things like himalayan sea salt, kale and 'alkaline' diets are rarely backed up by science/physiology and are mostly expensive/faddy/fashionable ways of choosing ingredients. Save yourself some money and spend it on some good dark chocolate or a nice bottle of wine. Having said all that I can't wait to try the roasted cashew salad - looks AMAZING xx

    Everytime I watch one of these "what I eat in a day" videos it surprises me that your strongest meal is dinner. I've always been told we should eat a big healthy breakfast, a fulfilling lunch (protein+healthy carb+salad) and a light dinner (salad)....and you guys do it backwards. I'm not hating, I'm just curious because I eat very similar but inverting your lunch and dinner.
    The same with dessert. I thought it was best, if you're going to eat sugar or any kind of treat, doing it early during the day because you're more likely to burn it off.
    I really liked this video because it gave me ideas but Amelia, don't cut off gluten if you don't have celiac disease. This whole gluten-free trend is getting ridiculous, it's not unhealthy if you're not allergic.
    Thank you for the video, have a great day!

      +Bárbara Rivera I know. But it may also depend on when you eat dinner. If you eat it aroung 6 pm and don't og to bed until midnight you might need a big dinner to fill you up for the evening. Especially if you are doing something..

      +Bárbara Rivera I'm curious if you work how you manage to eat a big lunch? It seems more practical to have a lighter/quicker meal while at your job and then cook a bigger meal in the evening when you have more time.

    • @barbirivera
      @barbirivera 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Debbie Prins Yeah, I know it's more practical. I still bring with me my lunch (like maybe chicken with brown rice and salad or pasta o something) and then eat a lighter dinner. I understand it's more practical what you say, makes sense, it's just I'm curious because I feel like I gain weight when I eat more during the evening. Anyway, I was not hating on Amelia :)

      @AbiGuy94 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mrs15swain05 I agree that some vegans' messages come across as rude and judgemental so I understand what you mean but the good message kind of gets lost in translation. Animal agriculture is the single most damaging act to the earth currently (particularly impacting global warming extensively). It overtakes CO2 production from all transport mediums on earth. Obviously it's not realistic to expect everyone to turn vegan overnight - not at all. It's just about being aware and perhaps cutting down meat and dairy consumption. Without me educating myself on the matter, I wouldn't have known the impact that animal agriculture has so I absolutely do not judge meat eaters at all. I do, however, make a judgement on those who are not open to listening to the facts and puts their tastebuds solely in more importance than the planet that future generations are going to be living on. I can understand your angst and I hope you don't see this as rude - not my intention at all. X

    • @Mrs15swain05

      +Abi Guy Understood but I don't support supermarket chains, I source my meat and dairy products from local farm where animals aren't mass produced. I pay for my eggs triple the price that's in the supermarkets but I don't mind that. I don't agree with mass production and I know they are very cruel to animals but I am really not against local farms. Farm locally to me has chickens running on the field in the summer and inside heated barn in the winter...they really are "happy chickens"... And the fact I eat meat shouldn't bother others ;) At least I don't shop at Tesco's - they get their meat from God-knows-where but definitely some weird disgusting place...

      I have a healthy eating cook book based around an alkaline diet (I'm still not to sure what the benefits are I just wanted healthy pizza and other recipes) but the alkalinity is to do with how things are digested in your stomach! Basically them lemon changes from acidic to alkaline/neutral (not sure exactly what happens) when it's digested so it's not about what the food is before you eat it but how it reacts and changes in your body before being absorbed into your blood 😄

      +shannonigans86 wow guys, no this isn't true at all. We all have to share this planet together and when people eat animals it contributes to the destruction of this planet. I'm sorry but I would really love it if people would stop using their selfish reasons (taste buds) to keep destroying the planet I have to share with them. I don't care if you want to get cancer or heart disease, and I understand not everyone loves animals and doesn't mind if they're raped, tortured and die a slow, painful death. But I DO care that you are destroying my home and my offspring's chance at a life without an apocalypse just because you can't give up 1 or 2 food items. Vegans are the ones thinking of others, so yeah I think that does make them morally superior.

They're eating the most sustainable diet on earth. So how is that narrow minded? You should educate yourself on the importance of veganism before you claim that they're narrow minded people. Sure, not being vegan is not a flaw but your eating habits are slaughtering millions of animals across the world leading to deforestation. Is that narrow minded if they're care about the environment?

    • @isaginationchannel
      @isaginationchannel 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Aisha Colanders gluten is generally not a healthy thing..human bodies weren't meant to eat wheat or other grains containing gluten for a long time but then we discovered it and over time ate more and more. now because we tend to grow our food with loads of chemicals and toxic fertilizer the gluten we eat today has changed from the gluten that we ate decades of years ago when it was still relatively ok to digest. it's now become quite resistant to many of our stomach acids and carries a bunch of those chemicals that it then transports into our system - which is why generally, gluten are not the best thing for us whether we are allergic or not. this is a common problem with many things though, since everything that's not organic brings nasty chemicals and toxins into our body.

      +chubbu28 lemon juice itself is "acidic" but once consumed and is metabolized it turns to an alkaline state

      Actually, there's no scientific study proving that lemon juice is good for your stomach, your skin or whatsoever. However, your doctor can advise you take a lemon or orange juice everyday if you do suffer from kidney stones. This is the only benefit of lemon juice.

    I loved your dressing! I actually bought tahini recently and didn't know what to do with it. Now I'll be making this salad and dressing 😍. I would love to see more videos like this. Plus I love listening to you talk. I have family in England.

    Try drinking the lemon juice in lukewarm water, apparently too hot water kills the vitamins! 😘
