My name is Teofilo B. Daquipil, a civil engineer by profession, and I was following Karl Marx since I was in college. Karl Marx idea is really extra ordinary and it is revolutionary. It is applicable to all fields of science including the economics
You are right. Karl Marx is still relevant and his ideas are not confined to one discipline alone. We can say that Marxism is unified social science. It was the responsibility of latter thinkers to find the virtues of Marx's ideas to explain the realities of the increasingly complex world.
Marx divided capital into two parts because a commodity is divided into two parts, and if the commodity is divided into two parts, one part is derived from living labor in the form of workers and the other component is dead labor in the form of use-values purchased by capital. The oppositions begins at the cellular level of the analysis of the commodity itself. Use-value and Value aspects of the commodity are also aspects of the labor embodied in commodities, use-value in opposition to value, and useful labor in opposition to abstract labor. All workers are reduced to abstract labor, a concept. Or to use an American phrase "fake" labor versus the actual real work workers do. The 19th century factory as developed in England is the focus of his study. Labor appears in the form of a variable component of the capital advanced is saying, 1., that workers recieve a payment for the commodity purchased by capital and their labor-power is a use-value consumed by capital for a fixed period of time is a caviat. 2., labor appears as a variable component in this system as a certain quantity of capital determining a certain quantity of production, and 3., labor in the concrete sense possesses the quality of being a value producer creating surplus-value in the form of an increased quantity of commodities through its productivity. If capital is divided into two parts and and two parts are directly a magnification of the labor divided in a commodity, we then have a social consruct of a world in which workers are only use-values, and the producitve power of workers is a power that appears in the form of capital overpowering their actions in the factories in the world. In a very real sense we have dead labor in opposition to living labor as dead labor in the form of raw material, machinery, technology and science being used to produce a product by the workers in a labor-process extracting living labor of its productive strength. Once we fill in Marx's categories with real live people the roles played by them conceal in the social construct of the world of capital the theory becomes revolutionary and distinct from all others
Not impressive, surplus value can easily be explained in the contribution of the workers in the commodities production. The products are sold only because it is produced in good shape otherwise it would not have been sold. If there is any defect in the product the wages paid to the workers would be deducted from the workers so it's quite clear that the product as being sold in the market was worth purchasing. So the profit must be shared by the workers but the capitalist would never share it to the workers because wages had already been fixed and the workers being in the weaker position because of having no ownership of the means of production, are bound to work under capitalist such is the exploitation. Cost price minus market price is the profit obtained by the capitalist as he controls the market so exploitation continues . The theory of surplus value is actually the explanation of the exploitation of the capitalist as clearly shown by Karl Marx.
6:10 starts with theory of surplus value.
