In critical applications like coupling into a single mode fiber 2 mirrors are absolutely required. When coupling into a multimode fiber with core large enough, one mirror can be sufficient.
I think the idea is that by varying say, two variables, independently so that each variable is optimized without correlation to the other is not as optimized as varying both at the same time and taking into consideration the correlation. For instance, you can consider walking on a triangular pyramid, where the line drawn from one corner of the triangular base to the center of the base is 45 degrees with both the x and y axis. The corner of the triangle to the top of the pyramid forms one of the edges of the pyramid. If you were to start near this edge but away from the top of the pyramid along the x direction, you would rise until you reach the edge. Similarly, if you were to walk back and forth along the y direction, you would rise until you reach the same point. However, were you to walk along the line y=x, you would walk directly up to the top of the pyramid, a point which is higher than the point you were previously at when you were walking along x and y independently. Unfortunately, the above analogy does not work for a square pyramid, because of the orthogonality of the x and y directions. However, you can choose two directions which are not at right angles with one another which the same idea holds. What is the result of such pyramids? I would say it is the orientations of the mirrors and the directions in which the fine knobs move the mirrors. Alternatively, you can take the surface to be an upside down pyramid, so that the value of the surface function represents the distance between the center of the fiber coupler and the point which the laser crosses on a hypothetical plane located at the fiber coupler and normal to the designed incident entrance direction.

Thank you for the positive feed back. We are looking for some ideas for "lab skills" videos that are normally not taught, but are learned though experience in the lab. Does any one have any suggestions?
You may make some videos like how align the laser etc., indeed I also need to couple the beam into single mode laser, but I don't understand why there is back propagating beam? And second, I have a fiber collimator, but you seems don't need that.
This type of tutorials help me a lot to understand the system. Thanks a lot and please upload more videos regarding the coupling efficiency of fiber.
This video is great. I wish I would have found it a few months earlier. You should definitely do more tutorials like this.

Outstanding demonstration. Saved me days of work. Thank you so much.
Excellent tutorial. Thank you for making this.
It would be better if you could tell us the effective focal length of the lens and the mode field diameter of the fiber
Great video Manoj! Each step is very clearly explained.
Nice tutorial for beginners. Thanks for uploading.
Awesome demo. Thanks so much.
Thanks for making this video!
Very good explanation. Thank you
Excellent, thanks. Always use 2 mirrors for alignment purposes.
very helpful and excellent tutoring, thank you very much.
great video!
You are my favourite person on earth today ❤️
Thanks for making this!
Thank you!! This is awesome!!
It is very helpful and thank you for sharing.
Very nice, btw, do you know how do coupling two optical tables ?
I love this video! very helpful.
I feel so much like I am in the lab watching this.
Very nice!
you should upload more!
Very well done, thank you
Do you have to worry how much you bend the fiber before breaking it?
what is the lens you are using ?
Thank you. This helped me get up to speed quicker.
This helped me, thank you!
Awesome. Very helpful, thanks!
hi, what is the coupler you used?
Very helpful! Thanks!
can I have the specifiactions of the materiel you use? wavelengths and the name of the compents. Thank you
very good!
Hi! thanks for the nice demos in optics. if you want to improve the sound and remove the pump's background noise, just ask me how to. cheers!
nice job
Wow, thanks!!
Very helpful.
Does anyone know where one could find the "coupler" that he used, e.g. on Thorlabs or Newport?
There exist a couple of similar techniques to fiber couple a laser. This one demonstrates the easiest one.
PLS WE NEED IT HOW AND WHERE CAN WE IRT IT
Could you please do tutorial of photo receiver?
Can i couple the light using one mirror? or it requires at least 2 mirrors?
Thank you for your help

@@just_a_random_name_ is it imp to use back propagating beam?
@@just_a_random_name_ I mean i didn't why needing two lasers as red light and infrared
Ironically the camera is out of focus.
Excellent demonstration! However I do not understand the logic behind mirror walking algorithm.

cryora thank you
What is the cost
Good
Oh dear, I can't see the red beam
