Generally you can’t stop water from the inside. It works much better to redirect the water away from the outside with grading, gutters, and downspout extensions.

@Lurch You could try Culver's if you're in the Midwest. They mostly do burgers, but their fried fish is quite good, and they have little packets of malt vinegar in addition to lemon wedges and tartar sauce. However, they don't really have classic chips so much as crinkle fries, and they have coleslaw instead of mushy peas (though you could ask them to substitute another side for the coleslaw if you like, perhaps more crinkle fries).

Head restraints were required in automobiles after insurance companies convinced government regulators that they were needed to reduce whiplash injuries during traffic accidents. When my brother and I used to room together and moved into an apartment, we needed blinds for the bathroom, but I had packed away the tape measure. Sad part is, I looked at it, noted that it was going to be very important, SWORE I put it in a box that was also full of important, day-one stuff for the new place...and yet it wasn't in there 😂. I don't think we ever found it again...
And then like idiots, we didn't buy a new one for a long while. We would end up making a total of FOUR trips to Walmart to exchange blinds that didn't fit 😅. The person working the return counter just died laughing more and more each time we came back, head hung like sheepish dogs. While you cannot anticipate everything that will go wrong with setting up a new home, PLEASE measure, if the project calls for it! "Measure twice, cut once" is the usual advice, but ours should've been "measure twice, buy once", lol.

Always look for the item number it’s usually on the barcode/price tag or it’s on the corner of the item, writing down or taking a picture of the item number makes it way easier for us to find the product for you. Combined with a dark wall color behind the shelves, it'll make the room feel bigger. Dark wall color makes a room seem smaller. You can combat that with this trick of plucking out details in a light color causing the dark color behind to recede.

Consider a trolley system with PVC coated steel wire, on a pulley, mounted to a suspended cord. Like a zip line for your dog to walk your yard! They work best when clipped to a harness

You're doing great as a homeowner. It will help you if you search and select a smaller, older hardware store. Ace will do, but independently owned ones have advantages: if you become a regular and get on chatty terms with one or two of the staff, they are more helpful with questions. When the new puppy had an accident on the oak floor and we didn't know if we could fix it with stain or clear varnish. The store guy knew the answer and saved us money, too. HD and Lowes is great, but one size doesn't fit all.

    • @burtenplays
      @burtenplays ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, kinda feel bad. HD and Lowes are like Walmart gobbling up all the smaller stores and now with Amazon too. I like Ace, there is one closer than the HD or Lowes so I go there for small things here and there. I also like how it's quicker to get around since it's smaller and like how things are set up. Way easier to find like cpvc fittings than HD where a plumber comes in and drags their arm across the shelf dumping everything into their cart and all that's left is the boxes at the top and need to call an employee over to get em. I noticed one day an electrician had 6 electrical panel boxes on a flat bed checking out. Seriously? That's why I couldn't find any panel boxes anywhere to redo mine from the ancient one my house previously had. Back to Ace, I needed a few pvc fittings and two brass hose bibbs and I was like.... Wait a second $18 for a 3/4" quarter turn hose bibb? That can't be right. Looked em up at HD and yep $13, for the individual pvc fittings all about 30% more and the hose bibb adds up pretty quick. If you need a quick thing and don't mind paying an extra few bucks it's alright but when you need to load up a cart better to go to the other two unfortunately.

@@tim1724 Lowe's only sells masterlock IIRC, but some Home Depots stock paclock as well as master lock, and paclock makes some pretty good quality locks. They aren't all secure enough to be used for a military armory, but they do make sure every lock they sell is at least reasonably resistant to destructive attacks, doesn't have any glaring vulnerabilities like being shimmable, rakable, decodable, or otherwise bypassable (all are ways for someone with no skill who hasn't practiced lockpicking but has seen one youtube video to reliably open a lock they don't have a key to in under a minute, often much less, and almost all master locks are vulnerable to at least one), and typically also have extra long pins to make them difficult or impossible to bump and enough security pins to stop an inexperienced picker. They certainly aren't foolproof, but they are good enough to make an opportunist pass it by and someone who is motivated try to find an alternative like breaking a window or cutting the hasp.
Edit: I forgot comb picking, some masterlocks are still vulnerable to comb picks, which is a vulnerability that has been well known among lock experts for around 100 years, and pretty much every other manufacturer of everything except the absolute cheapest novelty locks has fixed because it is actually cheaper to not make the pin chambers too deep than to make an oversized core with more materials in order to allow for oversized chambers so a comb pick can work.

DON'T do what I did. I picked a color, had them make it, brought it home and when I put it up on the wall, I realized it didn't work. Take a few of the chips home FIRST, compare it to the wall you want to paint, then go back and decide which color is the one you want. If you do chain the dog, I recommend putting a pole (just a metal pipe works) or a chain anchor in the middle of the yard because it's going to get wrapped around the pole frequently. I ditched the chain & got a kennel pretty quickly after I got a dog, but my yard isn't fenced in. If you "lock" the gate latches, you should be ok with the fence as long as there's no gaps anywhere (bushes won't stop a dog from escaping).

@@hollyheikkinen4698 in some parts of America it is considered cruelty to put your dog out on a chain, could get in big trouble😮. Check your local laws first.

You are being far, far too positive about masterlocks. Some can still be comb picked, and many can be shimmed, bumped, rapped, or bypassed by reaching to the back and turning the locking lug with a pick. Pretty much any way you can think of to unlock a lock without the key works on masterlocks, and many you can't think of.

The hydrologic cement won't work. You need to fix the water issues outside. Water should be shedding away from the house naturally.

If you have a wet basement, you need to dig up and waterproof the outside of the foundation and install a drain tile system with a sump pump. Sealing the cracks wont help that much.

I love Lowes. Sometimes finding a salesperson can be hard, same goes for Home Depot. I find trying to locate items is easier in Lowes than Home Depot. The salespeople are very helpful for me especially in the paint department. Be careful with hydraulic cement. Depending on the size of the job, you can get a cheap plastic bucket from Dollar Tree. After mixing it, you’ve got work quickly. Better to mix in small batches. Also, if you work with your hand, the stuff gets very warm.

Hey Lawrence! Home Depot is to build and Lowe’s is more for finish.
And for your basement, for the best results you want to dig around your house, install a drainage line around and away from the house or to a catchment with a pump. With gravel underneath and properly sloped. Add a few inches of river rock like 3/4 or 1 inch rock.
Then coat the EXTERIOR of the wall with a coating system. Fill the dirt back around the house and bam, you’ll be nice and dry.
Sorry it’s not an easy fix, but your not fixing anything by coating it on the inside.
Cheers and thanks for the videos!

Lawrence, it's helpful to have in mind that Home Depot carries more construction materials while Lowe's has more packaged, finished condition items. There's much cross over however. But you will likely learn after a few visits to both what is likely better tried at each store. For short lengths of chain which if you don't want extra or aren't able to cut at home, I would first try Home Depot which either would have a means of self cutting on the chain aisle then they are more likely to have some available to do the cutting. I find such employees are more difficult to find at Lowe's because they have few customers seeking more than prepackaged chain. Similar to cutting wood or pipe or other construction materials. Whereas if you want a ceiling light I find a wider selection to exist at Lowe's with an employee near the lighting aisle more on hand than at Home Depot.

The key to finding where stuff is in any Lowes or Home Depot is to only go to the same ones every time. While most Lowe's are set up the same...every Home Depot is different....

In most Lowe's (and Home Depot) stores, there will be one, generally nicer, bathroom at the front of the store near the exit doors, and one in the very back of the store slightly hidden along the walls that is ostensibly for employee use, though anyone can use them.

Word of warning about painting a room a dark color... it will suck if you ever want to paint it a brighter color in the future. At our first house, I painted my office a maroon color. When my wife got pregnant, that room turned into the nursery and we wanted to paint it yellow. Several layers of primer and paint were needed before the dark color was not visible beneath.
