Laos fun fact: Tam Pa Ling (Cave of the Monkeys) in northeastern Laos was the site of some important discoveries. In 2009, the cave turned up an ancient skull before offering an even older jaw bone (the oldest to be found in Southeast Asia) the following year. The jawbone, which is at least 46,000 years old, proves early hominids didn’t just migrate from Africa along coastlines, they followed inland rivers as well. Laos is a good friend of ours! We operate a few restaurants there where waitresses sing and dance in hanboks and serve hot pot, as well as a night market! Them managing to take their country for the people by overthrowing the kingdom in 1975 is admirable...it's ironic that the FRENCH who famously overthrew their own monarchy backed this monarchy against revolutionaries. Same for the Americans because they ironically kicked the British out of their own!
We have Laos friends where we live in Canada, love that soup. I have also been to Laos about 14 years ago. Will go back again for sure. Beer Laos is one of the best beers too!
Yup, Laos is an underrated country! Neighboring Vietnam and Thailand get all the tourists, but Laos deserves some love! The sour fruits you ate are called hog plums from the genus Spondias. There are are different species of Spondias found in Asia and the Americas but the one found and cultivated throughout Southeast Asia is Spondias pinnata. They're sometimes called a forest mango because they're related to mangoes in the same family Anacardiaceae. 1:14 The guy on the 100,000 kip you're holding is Kaysone Phomvihane who was the first General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 1955 to his death in 1992.
Hi Drew , watching you from Florida and thanks for sharing us your blogs and taking us where you are just by watching you which we really enjoy learning many things and information of all places we haven’t been yet . Hooray to you 🥰
It's a beautiful country, I've been there once and will go again. Probably now when watching other videos I realize better how unique experience it was to be there
Nice video! Planning a trip this fall to Laos and am really looking forward to it. I’m working on an itinerary and for about 14 days in country, and from an agency I used for Vietnam that offers solo travelers local guides, drivers and lodging in the areas they provide for in the north, I’m thinking 4 days around Luang Prabang, 6 days around Phongsali and 4 days covering Vientiane, Phonsavon and Plain of Jars. The itinerary includes time on the Nam Ou River in the northeast, though I will see if they can provide service in the northwest area that you visited, as I am particularly interested in the ethnic minority cultures. Cheers!
Hi that's a beautiful video I like also these kinds of video's that you don't only show the beauty of the country you also show if its cheap as usual I love your videos have a safe travel
Looks fun, you kind of sounded under the weather in the market but overall a great video. I think I will skip the beetles. I tried guenie pig once, it wasn't too bad. I guess it all depends how it is cooked.
Just spent a week there doing the Thaket loop, first time in Asia, it was fucking wild, so fun, felt like a kid again. Literally no restrictions on adventuring.
Hello I am Abdulaziz , a solo traveler planning to travel to Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, where do I start? Should I find a travel companion so I can change the way I travel this year? good luck
Totally wrong, they are Totally different. Pho is a beef noodle soup. Ka soy is made from pork and red curry oil noodle soup. That’s like saying apples and oranges are the same
Come on man, what’s he got to do with that? You cannot blame him for what’s going around between Israel and Lebanon. Do you go to russian youtubers and comment similar stuff about Ukraine? Dont spread hate man.
Hey drew, was doing some research and came across some info that there’s a big community of 5000 or so Hmong and Americans in northern Laos, is this true? Have u ever been there? Got a video?
Can you do a comparison video of Laos 🇱🇦 and Thailand 🇹🇭 like you did with Pakistan 🇵🇰 and India 🇮🇳 you know the video where you said India and Pakistan are twins
I was wondering how u got to Laos im coming from illinoi to which airlines to go. I want to visit their end of the year but I have no idea how to get their drew.
They speak Lao in Laos. The Lao language is pretty similar to Thai in vocabulary and grammar mostly because the two languages are from the Kra-Dai language family.
In vietnam we r eating rat too, but small rats with white silver fur in rice field, They only eat rice plants, so its safer and cleaner to eat. tbh its much more better than pork chicken and beef, one of my favorite food
Would u try rat meat? Curious, I'm very open minded trying new stuff but got scared seeing report of people getting pretty sick after trying some dishes from countries around the world, like Thailand and India for example. Those brown round fruit looking like lychee are called longan in Mauritius! It's so good!! It's a bit like lychee but better I recommend you all try ;)
A country whose currency value is the same as the Indonesian currency value. But the difference is that in Laos it is cheaper than in Indonesia. ( Rp.500/Lk.500 can only buy 1 candy in Indonesia )
Epic information. Eating rat is on the far edge of what I would try, I think. So far I have only turned down dog and testicles (Thank you Andrew Zimmeran to calling them creamy ;) So glad to be following your adventures, especially these instances where you ar in places we are going to soon. Cheers to your channel and the mutual love you have shown us on our channel (Previously called Old Soles Travel). - Bear
Wow now there's a country you can live for almost next to nothing on if you come from an American economy. Didn't you do a video couple of months back on your main Channel you were done with the $10 series
so I heard that insects are consumed just like in Thailand. I do not remember seeing people eat rats in Thailand. I did see some runaway rats while in Thailand, but I am pretty sure they were not meant to be consumed. LOL.
