I like to relate Functional Integration to 'reparenting', at least for that hour...and particularly to Winnicott's 'Good enough Mother'...and I have to 'fess up to my tendency towards being 'Too Good a Mother', ie giving too much ... after years and years of giving too much, I've finally begun to be mindful to not give too much...development can and 'should be' be a slow process...I realize I put too much into a session, and have an agenda for the person to 'get it'--as Ruthy (Alon) observed me giving FI, she shook her head and said "Too much devotion"...I'm imagining that my mother was 'too good' a mother...but I don't have to repeat her style! Not having children myself, perhaps I have been 'reliving my childhood' ...this isn't a question, but if you have any comments, I'd appreciate feedback!
I, Cynthia, don't have any specific to your situation but I do agree that we can play the role of the "too good mother" a term I appreciated from Clarissa Estes' work. Thanks for sharing your reflection.
