Wonderful! It's been too long since I heard that great song! That was a great night back in '86. A great memory!

Well said sir, Clive Baldwin is an exceptional talent, a man who has kept the legacy of Al Jolson alive, unfortunately there are those who will always criticise, and find offense, it doesn't matter whether it is 1986 or 1906, the quality of entertainment stands up in any era, who of us as kids were not brought up on those classic movies that our parents watched, particularly The Jolson Story, and Jolson sings again, brilliantly portrayed by Larry Parks,
Clive Baldwin has always garnered rave reviews whereever he has performed, that is testament to not only his unique talent, but also the enduring appeal of Al Jolson.

Really? Who the hell wanted to hear a "mammy song" in 1986?

      MooPotPie,
Doesn't your comment sum you up, it isn't about trend, it's about quality, this man is a class act, something you obviously know nothing about, there are many older people who want to hear Al Jolson's music again, and Clive Baldwin gives it them in spades.

There is another video of Clive explaining why he and the Minstrels blacked up, it was a tribute to the sound of New Orleans Jazz, I don't think the intention was to be racist, although initially the look was lampooning the black man, people will find racism where there isn't any, if it was so offensive, why did the minstrels last so long, in truth it was imitation of those jazz singers, and was less racist than many theatres who shunned black entertainers, Sammy Davis being one who was discriminated against,
Your initial comment came across as you were criticising the piece because it was too old for the time, people will listen to what they like, regardless of it being current, you use the term "In Spades" against me, as though it is referring to being black, it doesn't, I was meaning plentiful, abundance, I am not racist, I concur, that such was the trend back then, such songs were prevalent, and parodied the lowly status of Black people back then, and of course, it was wrong, but racism is still prevalent today, and will always exist as long as there are cultural and ethnic divisions.

If Moses had been a liberal
It would have been the ten suggestions.
      Maybe we should ban
Gone with the wind and blast George Washington's head off MT Rushmore..
This political correctness B.S.has gotten way out of hand!
To remove Kay Starrs statue or criticize this song with remarks that it is racial because it uses the word MAMMY
is warped and reminiscent of Nazi darkness.
You are totally unaware of the wickedness you and others like you represent...
      Shame
