    I can remember when I started years ago doing that. And honestly, just recently working on a blanket, I couldn’t believe the mess I had made doing it again. I have been crocheting for years and can attest how easy it can be done lol

    ...and I thought it was just me....thank you. Stitch markers are GREAT! Dont crochet without, I have developed a habit of using them. When I reach for my yarn and hook i grab them to. Just remember, "stitch markers are my friends, they make me happy" 😉

It comforted me when I couldn't get out of bed and on days when my body fails me I can pick up some wool and go from there . I have made some wonderful blankets for my grandsons and that's enough for me. Have a great day/night xo

    Yep. Unraveling as we speak. Thank you so much. This made SOOO much sense and right away I could look at my work and see the beginning of the wonky wedge lol. I'm a beginner and I can't use the hook yet but I can use my fingers so I do! I enjoy this so much and it's only been a couple of weeks.

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      have you tried to use a hook yet. even just practicing holding a hook without even crocheting can help. the only way you will get used to using a hook is to actually crochet with it. you first project won't be perfect but you will have finished something. practice, practice, practice. that is how you will be able to get better

    • @yolandarouser1413
      @yolandarouser1413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CrochetwithClare I tried using the hook but it was just so awkward. I also think my carpal tunnel may be preventing my dexterity but that's just my thought. When I use my fingers , everything just flowed effortlessly. Except for the wonky shape thing lol.

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yolanda Rouser have you tried the ergonomic hooks before? Or hooks with handles. There are many with karpal tunnel and arthritis that find them very useful. I know tulip makes the soft handled ones and Boye I believe makes the ergonomic ones.

    Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been crocheting for years, but have always had this problem. I think that part of my problem is that I have such a tight gauge. I don't know why I crochet so tightly, but the stitches are so tight that I often cannot tell when I am truly at the end of the row.
    Do you have any tips on how I can crochet more loosely?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      really practice is the only advice i can give. you can also try using a larger hook as well

    • @msbernie1970
      @msbernie1970 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      bobwilson123 I guess I will just have to keep practicing. Whenever I use a larger hook, the gauge goes wonky and everything goes out of proportion. I'll keep at it. Thanks for the reply. 😊

    Hi Clare! Great video! I have been crocheting for so long (off and on over 50 years) and don’t usually make this mistake. Recently, Lo and behold I was looking at an afghan I have been working on off and on and saw that the edge was getting smaller on one side! Sure enough I had to rip out about 40 rows because I wasn’t paying attention. I just had to laugh. It happens to us all I think! It wasn’t the first time and it probably won’t be the last!😀

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh no, 40 rows !!!! Ouch ! Thank you for your feedback, it lets beginners know that it is a mistake that even people that have been crocheting for a long time still make mistakes :)

      You are very welcome Shanna. I still use stitch markers when making blankets and I have been crocheting for 20+ years. Just takes out the thinking LOL Also if you do not notice for a few rows it saves having to pull out so much work!

    I've been crocheting for years but I tried a new pattern and just couldn't keep it straight. Tried doing it over and over to make my edges straight that thinned out my yarn.
    Maybe now I can try it again???

    I love this tip. I have made and continue to make the wobbly shape. A teacher I had taught me the stitch marker tip and it changed my world. I think the question is aways about the chain at the beginning of a row, is it a stitch or not. Some patterns will say. Anyway, thank you for this helpful video!

    I have been back and forth with crocheting. I took it up many years ago and did not like the way it looked ( edges not straight) then I took up cross stitch and loved it now I am to old for that ( my eyes are not good enough for the intricate work) so I am determined to do crocheting. Have watched so many videos I am cross eyed. There are so many ways to turn a corner it is confuseing. Everyone out there in crochet land pray for me

    Hi Bob Wilson, I would like to ask you if you could recommend some easy/beginner projects that would be good for me to practice with the new stitches I have recently learnt. I have learned single crochet, double and treble crochet stitches. Could you please create a playlist with videos you have already made that would be good for a beginner like myself to learn from?

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hello Rach, almost all of my videos and designs are suitable for beginners but you can always start with afghans as they use mainly one or two stitches to make. you can also check out the section on my website for cowls and scarves. www.bobwilson123.org/afghans--granny-squares.html

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if it's not really noticeable you can always just add or remove the stitch you need. otherwise yes you would have to start over

    Yes i made this mistake and it is not easy to see the stitch. Will try your method, I have always counted the stitches but found that on first row there is 20 turned 1 chain into 1st to end counted stitches and there is always 19 sometimes 18 it is driving me mad. I realised it was at the end of a row did 10 rows. Work was straight finished there until next day started again and started to end up with missing stitches again. Don’t you loose one stitch on first row of chain therefore you are only working on 19 stitches? I adjusted this by making a 21 chain don’t know if this is correct but it worked for me. Glad I found you I was just about to give up and go back to knitting.

    • @CrochetwithClare
      @CrochetwithClare  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, no you are not losing one stitch each row. your starting chains almost always count as your first stitch unless otherwise stated in the pattern ie-{(chain 3, dc into each stitch across)(ch1, sc into each stitch across)}, the mistake usually is happening with either missing that first space or the very last one. you should also be making your last stitch into the turning chains from the row below. your patterns will usually state this. that is why it is always good to count every row to make sure no stitches were missed.

      @@CrochetwithClare tried as you suggested and guess what it worked. Cannot tell you how pleased I am, I am convinced it was the last stitch was the problem.
