My goodness, they're able to hold themselves up now, lick, give toofless bites, howl and do mini drillos. And they're twice the size they were when they were born. So much development in such a short time. They're starting to remind me of Kenzo, Hiro and Kai now when I first stumbled upon this channel.

when mama licks the puppies she is stimulating them to eliminate. The puppies can't do this on their own until around 4 weeks of age.
Just what I was thinking. It's not just about keeping the babies clean. I imagine the licking has other benefits for development also. Suki knows what she's doing. Human Mother's Helper can't lick them so he has to pet them with his hands. Watch and learn from the master, human.

it sounds nice and all but if they did, after a few years. they'd be taking care of 4 grown dogs and a bunny. that's a lot of work for people who have full time jobs as well.

I don’t think most male mammals love their kids that much (maybe foxes!) and moms are right to want them out of sight. This is a unique situation ... a family.
Us mammals usually only need one good parent. Mother Nature ain't stupid. There is even biochemistry going on after birth that helps mom bond with the babies. When the dad is helpful with the babies, it's a bonus for mom and babies but not a necessity for survival. Besides, Suki has human Mother's Helpers.
It's birds that really need two active parents from conception, so mom and dad are busy before and after hatching. But it's ok for Shiro to just watch patiently from a distance until Suki can focus on him again.
