from the day i removed the sponge filter i got x20 more babies .. full planted aquarium with just an air pump with fine bubbles..didn't do a water change for 8 months now
hi its me again i decided to make a new shrimp tank and just recently bought your book and it was very helpful! thank you so much for everything you are really an inspiration thank you have a nice day
I just tested the water on our 9 active tanks. The tank that had the best numbers? My 6 litre filterless red cherry bowl. 0/0/0 for ammonia/nitrites/nitrates, pH, gH and kH all exactly at my levels (7.5, 8, 5). Bowl is a couple of months old with about 20 shrimp + babies. The bowl is full of guppy grass and duckweed to drain any nitrates from the tank, and a pile of scoria covering an airstone in the centre to provide bacteria surface, as well as a piece of cholla wood. It is probably my favourite tank. 🥰
I'm about 2 weeks into my first filterless shrimp tank. I love to use filters because they just make everything work better, but this is a 2 1/2 gallon jar so it's round and I don't want to spend the money on a tiny canister. So far the air stone is doing a great job. I've got some spider wood in the jar, and that stuff stinks if you don't have circulation. I found that out the hard way (didn't have any shrimp in yet, fortunately). I'm forcing myself to be patient and let it mature. I've only put about 5 or 6 shrimp in, and several ramshorn and bladder snails. I have done a couple water changes with a turkey baster. lol
The way i see it is if i have to use a air stone i might as well have a small sponge filter same air pump. You can even have the airstone in the sponge filter. With plants you can hide them. I guess it's not a filterless then 😆. Great video as always.
Had a question for you and didn’t know where to ask other than here. I just introduced blood worms to my colony yesterday. This morning I noticed some long string white poop with a few shrimp. In your experience how long does it take for the shrimp to get used to the new diet change and stop having that white stringy poop
In fish, white stringy poop can be a sign of internal parasites. However, I am unaware of such an issue with shrimp, so I wouldn't worry about it. I believe food passes through them fairly quickly as they have such small internal systems.
If your looking up videos on TH-cam on the subject your probably have more knowledge than most people in the hobby. This channel alone and his book will have you in the top 1% in the hobby.

Hey, I am so glad you found the book helpful. That’s means a lot to me 🫶🏻

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I agree with you 100%, but there are so many people keen to try the ‘no filter’ method.
do you know why my shrimp are chilling on the top of the tank on the duck weed

This is helpful but I’m not skilled enough to do this. Maybe one day.
I think you are wise to know what set up works best for you 👍🏻
@ thanks
