Please will you all stop listening and acting in hate. The Ainu people may have had a hard history. But now they are free and will become recognized in time as all things are in time. Love your brother. Please all come together when listening as a sign that freedom always prevails. It just may take longer in some places. Peace out. DS
Their legacy is already dead, the treaties are not being complied with by the Japanese government, their culture continues to be a great taboo in many aspects and they are already so mixed due to the abuses of the Japanese that they are only the embers of a beautiful culture totally turned into ashes, like the first settlers of okinawa and everything that does not come from the modern wajin.
Thank you for the video. Great voice singer. The music and the singer's voice brought back some memories, but what they were, I couldn't bring them back to my mind.
@GaladedridDamodred I not catching you there.. The Ainu musicians who helped record this album (sampler) are all good friends of mine. They were honored to be able to share their heritage and customs with the whole world. It has just been recent since the new era started taking an interest in the Ainu people. Even here in Japan, the culture is starting to be recognized for who they are and not just another Japanese.
In case anyone wondered, the song is Pekambe Uk. Umeko Ando was featured posthumously in an episode of the anime Samurai Champloo, and the episode featuring this song was dedicated as a tribute to her. (Episode 17) It is an incredibly beautiful song.

It's condescending to call ppl Ezo (kanji refers to Hokkaido like in Ezo-chi but it can also mean 'shrimp'), Ebishi or Emisu (barbarians, "group of violent men" etc.). Stick to Ainu pls. The Ainu live both in the northern Japan and in Russia (Sakhalin is Russian). The Russian Ainu descendants however are not as involved atm in indigenous movements but you know... gazprom...
@bobfari In reply to both your comments. Both songs are full for Okinawa Tradition and Spirits From Ainu. The song was song here by Ando Umeko a good friend of mine. Both songs are very famous and very old. I do not know who the original singers are. I will put up the titles in the description for both songs. Thanks for your comments!!
Nostalgia and healing easily make us a suppoter of Ainu culture. However innocent this kind of feeling trys to devide Japan. There is atmosphere we can not simply enjoy the culture. I am sad stakeholders political activity.
@ne0eagle I feel for you. My ancestors are Native American and got the same deal. But at least today your culture is free from persecution like in those evils days. I hope everyone who is interested in the Ainu culture will be touched by this video.
@DiscoverySound So beautiful i envy you both, i can't trace my ancestry, i'm a mix of several african tribes and portuguese colonies as well as german descent. Wish i knew more about my past.. treasure your roots my friends.
I am Chinese. Old Chinese historical records once mentioned these people, when they are brought to China with Japanese diplomats in the 8th century. They seem to be good at archery at the time. 蝦夷 they were called.
liaalixx It's an Ainu lady Ando Umeko and as far as i was told it is a lullabye ;) The title Penkanpe or Bekanbe (p and b is interchangeable in many Ainu dialects) is most probably a name of a flower, more specifically a water lilly ("The flower floating on water"). I think it would be very difficult to find a full translation of this particular text (if it was ever transcribed).
@july071992 It was a bad move on the japanese part, yes, but so did pretty much every country. Or are there as many American indigenous people today as there once was? All nations built upon America (as in the continent as a whole, not just USA or North America) decimated indigenous people. Let's not judge others as we expect them not to judge us from mistakes from the past.
@Konvictedjeezy and @toki1221 You guys need to settle down or take your hate somewhere else. That is why this world is so screwed up. People need to get along. Stop dwelling on the past even though it is so bad. You are living in today and unless you got a time machine you should at least try to get along. On my page anyway. If getting views means I gotta watch two people hate eachother then I dont need views.
I don't know what it is but I really hate this kind of pseudo etheral "world music" type of genre that's bastardizing the rich culture of an indigenous people with synthesizers and Western drums.

Just like the native people of north & central & south America
Their legacy is already dead, the treaties are not being complied with by the Japanese government, their culture continues to be a great taboo in many aspects and they are already so mixed due to the abuses of the Japanese that they are only the embers of a beautiful culture totally turned into ashes, like the first settlers of okinawa and everything that does not come from the modern wajin.
@@DarkEngelRockVampire lol sorry dude, I'm Ainu and we ain't dead, but that "noble savage" trope sure is.
This affected me in a way I really can't explain. Just beautiful. We can't allow this kind of music to die out.
Hello
I had no idea Ainu music is so beautiful. I got goosebumps listening to this and it's my 1st time hearing an Ainu song 😍😍😍😍. I love it!!!
Love Native people from all over the world. Keep the Culture alive
Thank you for the video. Great voice singer. The music and the singer's voice brought back some memories, but what they were, I couldn't bring them back to my mind.
My relatives and classmates are Ainu.
Cantonese Taishanese Shame on you!
Do they speak Ainu?
Ainu is not defined by blood, but certification issued by Association of Ainu.
Great music but flash point by their political activity, too sad.
@@ksintuy That's even more sad, their blood has been diluted so much they have no choice but to accept anyone who says they're Ainu as Ainu's.

The Ainu are also referred to as Ezo and the also were known to live on Sakhalin and the tip of the Kamacatka peninsula in Russia

If you reverse the part from 1:52 to 1:57 it sounds like they're singing "Hokkaido" lmao
@Richandy6 yes.
Beautiful, but so sad.
