Pressure washing is your first step. It will clean, but also loosen paint pieces and show here you may need sanding. You will likely need a few different sizes of brushes to get details, corners and where surfaces meet. Keep in mind you may need multiple coats for weather beaten surfaces and areas exposed to a lot of sun. You might consider spraying, especially large areas as it quicker and easier than either a brush or roller. Metal surfaces require metal paint for endurance. Ideally metal should be sprayed as well. You will need to mask wood areas to protect them from overspray. Good luck. It can be a lot of work, but done well it should last longer. 😊
Exactly what I thought, too. Pressure/power washing on a hot, sunny day is key! If any water pools, try to squeegee (sp?) any excess off so it can dry. I worked as a Sales Mgr. for a Developer (neighborhood/home builder) & learned SO much from Architects/Designers/PUD Land Usage Engineers, Electricians, Painters, etc. So, this person was spot on - POWERWASH first!
Matt I'm glad you and Jesse have started doing more with your TH-cam channel, we understand you need for time with the other channel and the cost, but for many like myself retired and on my pension not a lot left for extras, especially when you have medical expenses like skin cancers. I do like and appreciate all yours and Jesse's videos
Thanks for sharing. I've missed seeing you and Jesse "puttering" around. The painting will be great. Your new truck is You!! Looking forward to seeing all the projects. Love you guys so much!!!😍
I love that you are sharing more of the outside of you house with us. It’s a beautiful place and such a heavenly outdoor living! I can’t wait to see the changes.
When buying paint Matt, be sure to ask for paint with primer. This way it helps cover all the smudges and spots that won't wash off in one coat. I like the colors of your stable, so I'm glad you went with the same colors.
There are also primers with specific stain-covering properties you might consider (at least for the white). If you can do it all in one step that would obviously be nicer, but whatever way your paint store recommends. If needed it pays to do a little extra work on the front end for it to look nicer and last longer. Love the colors - very sharp.
I love seeing your house and garden tours! You've made so many huge improvements since you and Jesse moved there. What a beautiful property to live in, I can't wait to see your new improvements this year! ❤❤🥰🥰😍😍
Thanks Matt. It’s lovely to see you working on your stables at home. When you look close up, you can see they do need a little touch up. I love your new car. It looks very practical for when you have to transport a lot o& things around. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished painted look xx
Love your truck. You will be so amazed how handy owning a truck is. By the way we were able to hear the sound of the acceleration while driving. Good color choices for the barn. We have missed seeing you lately as well as Emperio. Enjoy getting to see your beautiful estate
Matt & Jesse - Your home is already stunning & I ♥️ that you care to keep it that way! Every (early) Fall - please plant more Tulips & Daffodils! Also, at the edges of your property - plant Forsythia - but don't trim it, let the stems fly free. So much prettier that way! Purple Lilacs can be bushy & a bit ugly, so plant at far perimeters - but do cut the blooms for your house & bedroom - just heavenly. I like a mix of purple & the white Lilacs - the! French Hybrid lilacs. Also, if your zone can handle it - 'Night Blooming Jasmine' is simply incredible if planted near your house or patio. It needs some wind protection.
Normal people getting a new car: 'I love it, I'll clean it weekly, it's never getting dirty or messy' Matt getting a new car: ' imagine all the mess I can put in here'
You and Jesse have such a beautiful place. Love, love, love your new truck! Have fun with it. Looking forward to seeing the finished things you plan on doing with your property!
Great vlog full of spring energy! 🔥Honestly the stables need a coat (or two) of paint and some repairs. The dark colour is perfect but shiny and for the two-tone doors I would choose a lighter grey tone but tastes and colours are personal. I have also noticed, and not for the first time, that you are attentive to Jesse's opinion, which is normal when people share the same house. It's a nice character trait that shows how much you like to please Jesse, your friends or your horses.👏 Fantastic "Black Monster Truck"! I love it as much as I love your reaction as a little boy who just got the present he was waiting for.😀 You can still be amazed, so you are not jaded and that is refreshing! Enjoy your awesome vehicle and stay safe. Thank you for this vlog and we hope for a sequel in a few weeks. Much love from Belgium 😍💙
Love these kinds of videos. Motivates me to get something done as well and omg to have the possiblities to give everything a good clean and lick of paint will be so satisfying can't wait to see it 🤩
I bought my first Ram in 1993-I still have it!🎉it still runs like a top. I have bought 3 more and they are still road worthy. When I was in Germany 🇩🇪 last year, I saw 1 pick-up truck on the road. We rented a tiny Citroen to go to Prague-we barely fit in the parking garage, so my advice-use it to go to horse events where there is plenty of parking 🅿️. I put my extra horse stuff in the back seat. It’s a great place for water and snacks. I hope to love yours as much as I love mine. By-the-way…I think that throaty roar you hear is the Hemi on your engine. You are a smart man-the extra get-up-and go is so satisfying.❤
Great to see you Matt, and I like all the spring sprucing up you and Jesse have planned. I love where you live inside and out, it's so beautiful and warm in an elegant sort of way. Being an American, I recognized that truck even before he raised the cover, they are huge, and high up, have to warn you though, most people are Not a fan, Lol. Sounds like you've been really busy, we understand and can't wait to see what's on the horizon. Thanks for taking us along, hope to see you and Jesse soon!
Being an American and Texan, we have 2 Rams, one 1500 HEMI and one 2500 Diesel Heavy duty and being that over 700,000 RAMs are sold each year alot of people are fans. We love them, the "little" one drives better than the Range Rover we had.
Greetings....from the Western North Carolina Mountains...USA ! Been watching you guys since you were at 11,000 subscribers.....congratulations on almost reaching a half-million...! So much enthusiasm, professionalism, horsemanship, passion & energy on your channel.....I just love it ! I'm thinking that "Black Trim" on your barn would look excellent....as well as really sharp. Have a great springtime....... Sincerely, Cindy🐴
That is such a gorgeous truck. I'm Canadian so we see huge gas-guzzling pickups everywhere, but that beauty would even turn heads here in Alberta. Maybe Matt will turn into a cowboy yet lol. Good thing he already has some practice driving large vehicles due to the horse carrier. The stables and outside structures will look lovely with the paint touched up. I'm happy that Jesse, Matt and their animals have a small paradise to relax in when they are home.
You really have such an eye for design. There’s not one thing you’ve done that I haven’t loved and thought I wanted to live there. I can’t say that about many designs. And OMG! I’m in Texas, the land of huge pickup trucks. You’ve just endeared yourself to me even more. It’s a Ram truck, best one on the market today. Vroom vroom.
Hi, Matt and Jesse. Not quite sure I am commenting on the right video, however I saw several today. From South Carolina USA I have some info to share w you; please take w humor but some is practical advice. (1) here we powerwash buildings and barns to get the dust and mold/“algae” off - I think that would reduce any sanding and repainting a lot; (2) your Dodge Ram 1500 is not a “Car”; it is a “Truck” (albeit nowhere near my F250 Diesel w gooseneck to tow horse trailer); (3) maybe keep your car to fit the smaller parking spaces! I love your videos and farm and horses and send many blessings!
Usually in the USA we do a half circle drive with a small line that extends at 1 side of the loop. Think lower case n where the n's first line is tall enough to park the truck in it and not block the half circle so cars go right past.
I love that you will get stares there with the truck yet in Canada every second person I know owns a Black Ram. And many own 2500 and 3500s! Big roads here but also very large wildlife!
Whatever you two do, please keep in mind it is the who you are that is awesome ... not the what. Let the depths of your hearts flow. When you two were trimming Bear together, Jesse building trust and love with Champ....beautiful.
Hi matt looking forward to your stable decorating nice colour choices definitely matt colours. Enjoy your new car it doesn't matter if people look as you go by maybe they've never seen that type of vehicle in your area .lv to you a jesse .❤
So many great changes. Hope the dogs dont mind the engine sound. Mine attack the door. You can buy a towing package for goose neck if like and block heater for very cold spells. Monitor recalls and report if issues quickly. They can tell you if you should park or continue driving. I love the colours but prefer the post shade against box over the silver. I'd test the blue close to it. Just seems flat..Maybe it is the camera shading. Great plans for chickens. Hope the horses are doing well.
There are three paint finishes, gloss, soft sheen and matte. It looks like, from the purposes you’ve described, the soft sheen may be better. The silver you’ve selected looks to contain actual metallic particles. This will mean the paint is sheer as it’s just a carrier. You may want to get just a colour silver with a flat finish which will cover much more effectively. Your car is amazing! Hopefully it meets all your needs as well as being a super fun car to drive!
I don't know paint in the Netherlands but in the States flats, mat, simi gloss are used in side, they don't work well in dampness, they absorb moisture, gloss doesn't and you can wash it.
Matt it’s not just a car. It’s a truck and a big truck at that. It is beautiful. Well done. 😊 I am from Canada and we are truck people. The big rigs that haul goods we call tractor trailers. Now that you have one you will never drive anything else. They sit high you can see everything. I have owned a Dodge Ram with the HEMI engine and now drive a pared down mid size truck a Ford Ranger. Love my truck! Enjoy your new wheels.
Always enjoy watching whatever you all are doing. I drove a truck/car like that when mine was being fixed. It was surely imposing.....but..it drove so smoothly. It was nice being higher than other cars.
My son has that truck!! Of course not with your add ons, but the limited in black and loves it!! Congrats!! I can't believe you're getting a truck!! So American of you! ❤
I ❤the truck Matt it’s perfect and you look magnificent in it. Good luck with your painting project also. Sending love and prayers to you and Jesse and all the family❤
I enjoy your videos and so glad to see this one you’ve been missed. Can’t wait to see your work in progress. Owning property involves a lot of maintenance. Your pickup is gorgeous. It definitely fits your style. Look forward to your next video. 💕🌸
Congrats on the new truck! It’s a beauty. You’ll find it invaluable for lugging horse stuff and will hold tons of gardening materials. It’s kinda of different how big it looks there when there are so many regular cars. Here in this part of Canada there are almost as many trucks as cars. Have fun with it.
Wth the price of gas it shocks me how many people here in Canada drive trucks for daily drivers. I just bought a F250 and it is a beast. But I bought it for hauling. Driving in the city is no fun. But I love the size and safety of it. But let’s not talk about fuel economy. Ouch!! Most of the throaty engine sounds are now piped into the cab of the trucks. Our last truck had a throaty sound. Ford piped it in to the cab to enhance the thrill I guess. Love Dodge as well. Had a few Hemi’s. With the Hemi Tick of course. I will never be without a truck. I love my pick ups.
Hello again Matt. Loved your tour around your house and the project you will be doing. Great looking TRUCK ! I love seeing the training and all bout new horses plus Chase and Andora, Bear, and Macho too. You both are on the top of my list of TH-cam favorites. We all get a part of daily life and updates. We all go thru those things with our lives, home and cars. But we love watch your lives🎉😊
THAT IS A BADASS TRUCK. I get Matt’s excitement with the sound, my dodge charger r/t plus has an exhaust and it sounds like a beast . Enjoy Matt, you deserve it 😊
Love the truck Matt! 100% USA! You made the absolute right choice. 👏👏👏 If this truck was in Texas, Wyoming or Montana, nobody would look twice, you'd fit right in!
I love your new truck. The engine sounds awesome. Love the flat Navy Blue stable color, but like the lighter accent color ( the Silver as opposed to the darker Gray). Your home, barn, and garden are so lovely.
Good afternoon Mattia! I’m thinking maybe paint might eventually flake from the bare steel?! We did exactly the same on our barn doors - they were sort of galvanised like your stable door uprights, anyway, after a couple of years the paint flaked even though we prepped it accordingly.
Great new car, Congratulations. Loving the freshen up plans, and great plans for the hens re location project. You will be busy, but end result will be great.
Loved the video! Congrats on the new vehicle Matt and I love your approach to the paint. Thanks for the painting tips as I’m about to do some painting myself which I’ve been putting off as I’ve been giving myself anxiety about the colours and finishes. Never thought about getting small samples and painting in spots to see if I like it.
i absolutely love how Jesse keeps bringing in random german sentences 😄 he feels it 😄
I loved it too, so funny! „Mein Auto“ and this „Entschuldigung“ after him squealing!
Or "meine Güte" 😂

"Dankeee" 🤣
He is Dutch, not German!
Love when you and Jesse just do stuff at home.
me too! i was beginning to worry about them :)

He needs to stand the surfaces down, otherwise the primer is just going to make it easier for all chip and fall off in one piece 😅

THAT IS A BADASS TRUCK. I get Matt’s excitement with the sound, my dodge charger r/t plus has an exhaust and it sounds like a beast . Enjoy Matt, you deserve it 😊
Love to see more of what your inside of your house looks like as well, only seen part of it.
i must say that it is a good choice and you will make good use of it with the horses, etc.
Happy to see you again😊 Congratulations with your new car and have many save drives❤
Jesse is always the cherry on top 😂😂😂❤❤❤
I love the shiny!!!
Really love hearing about your everyday lives. Looking forward to the vids to come!
From The USA here Love ❤ the new car can't wait to see the barn painted Love ❤ when you two go out You two are so funny ❤
thanks for bringing us along picking up your new truck. ! The new paint job is exciting as well, we all need a fresh coat of paint once in awhile. 😊
Love the truck Matt! 100% USA! You made the absolute right choice. 👏👏👏 If this truck was in Texas, Wyoming or Montana, nobody would look twice, you'd fit right in!
Congratulations Matt! You are now officially a “good ole boy!” 💖
Good to see you back. Loving the new truck.
I absolutely love jesses random german sentences 😅 sehr gutes deutsch jesse!
Amazing! More videos of you driving the new car!
I love your new truck. The engine sounds awesome. Love the flat Navy Blue stable color, but like the lighter accent color ( the Silver as opposed to the darker Gray). Your home, barn, and garden are so lovely.
Love your truck. Excited to see your flower garden. And I never thought I'd see a video where you had to tell Jesse to be quieter. 😂
To be quieter and not make a scene ... ?????? 😳 Is he really talking about OUR Jesse??? How weird, that's just not like Jesse at all. 🤔
Have a Ram truck too and absolutely love it!
Love the new car. Definitely not what I expected.❤
Stunning gardens!
I’ve just started watching your video. I hope your painting inside the stables too so they are fresh everywhere.
Congratulations, nice pickup truck ❤, love you two 😂, it's looking good around the house
