To be clear , very clear , the lead singer on this song is the absolute legendary Eddie Levert, one of the greatest to ever pick up a microphone 🎤 , father of the late Gerald Levert , also one the greatest to ever pick up a microphone , and also singing with Eddie is the legendary Walter Willians, also one if the greatest to ever pick up a microphone ! The Ojays were excellence personified , giving you decade after decade of hits and live performances , from thru early 7o’s till now!
This group "The O'Jays" were part of the "Philadelphia Sound" of the 60's and 70's. They were part of a litany of talent that came out of Philadelphia such as: The Stylistics. The Defonics. The Moments. The Pretenders. McFadden & Whithead. The Three Degrees. Blue Magic. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes with Teddy Pendergras. Lou Rawls. Eddie Homan. These are just a few of the groups and single acts that came out of that stable of talent. For a time in the early 70's. The Sound of Philadelphia surpassed the sound of Detroit's own Motown Sound. Great reaction to one of Philadelphia greatest groups. Awesome!
Yes it did. The Philly Sound was more of a kind of "message music." It was "sho nuf" grown folks music. This is not to denigrate Motown, which we love. Yet, comparatively speaking, Motown was bubble gum soul music compared to the Sound of Philly, more commonly referred to as TSOP. ENJOY
YES!!! The O'Jays snatched many panties! 😃 I highly recommend their Soul Train performance of Stairway To Heaven. One of the few times an artist performed live on Soul Train.
Eddie's vocal are/were so powerful, that EVERY album the O"Jays released, was phenomenal!! They are currently completely their final performance tour (2023). So glad I got to see them in concert ❤👏🏾👏🏾 You got to hear the Dramatics singing "Be My Girl! Old school chick forever💪🏾💕
They had a bunch of hits and not just Backstabbers, For the Love of Money, and Love Train. They just recently retired out of music, because Eddie Levert was having health problems and he recently collapsed during a performance.
Yes , I was excited to attend their concert in So. Florida to see them one last time. Found out Eddie was sick , he wouldn't be performing. Big disappointment foe me . Wish him the best on retirement because he has been through a lot in recent years emotional too .
Great reaction! They are my favorite Group. Their Concerts were outstanding, I've seen them about 5 times. Some songs to react to I Love Music, I Want You Here With Me , For The Love Of Money , Use To Be My Girl.
Those were great songs I used to sing and dance to. Those songs came out during my high school days in the early 70's. I just love the song "For The Love Of Money." That was a banger that will always be relevant for all time. Awesome!
You must do one of their biggest hits that will always be relevant for all time..."For The Love Of Money (1973)." That is a real banger. The opening rift of the base guitar is too awesome. It's what has captured everyone's attention as soon as the song starts. A must listen too...T. S.O.P. The Sound of Philadelphia.
Hey guys!!!! I love your channel!!! I'm a new subscriber. Your reactions are amazing!!! I'm 55 and I'm from Philly and the Ojays' were in heavy rotation in my house and on the radio!!! I love that you guys are discovering and exploring this music. It's from my era and I still listen to it today. These are timeless gems!! I'll even go on and say national treasures!!! Can you guys react to Marivn Gaye Come live with me angel?
If you like that you really should listen to,"Cry Together," by the O'Jays. It's the ultimate. I've seen them in concert 3 times once in the 70's 80's and 90's. They are a fabulous group.
Yeah! I am listening again to this classic reaction. Please check out their song “Family Reunion”. Another song that will touch in all the right places!
The O'jays gave the Best after parties..... the women were lined up at the door...... all ah dude had to do was be in the lobby or if lucky enough get a room on the same floor......1975.... oh how I miss those days......keep the good music coming. Salute to Shawn & Mel
We used to have the best music during the 70s. We jammed hard and got close to the ladies on slow jams. In Philly we called it slow dragging. Lots of fun things happened as a result of songs like this. Love Love Love😂😂❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh Philly! The fantastic musicians, singers, arrangers and producers!!! this was from Philadelphia International. but there were dozens os other producers who brought their performers to Sigma Studios to record with those musicians.
Try a listen to Loving You, Sounds Like Me, Wildflower Live in London, You and Me..all Grown Up Ojays Music. I enjoy watching you two obviously so in Love . You remind me of me and my Hubby. I would love to see y'alls reaction to How Lucky I Am by the Isley Brothers. Have a Blessed Day.
R.I.P Mr William Powell. Guys you can't go wrong with the O'jays. This is an amazing rabbit hole . Please check out Sunshine (1972) thanks for this one guys.
This songs are from my generation and I’ve been watching you guys for a while, but I subscribed after watching y’all react to Luther Vandross a House is not a home and Luther and Gregory Hines reaction. I like the way Shawn appreciates the songs, you to Mel.
Honey, y’all just don’t know. Them dudes were responsible for a whoooooooole lotta babies! I’m 75 and STILL gotta pull the car over, stop and head bow hand up and holla!
Please react to my favourite song by this awesome band, “Used to be my girl” For the love of money” also an awesome song. One of my favourite bands of all time
I’ve never seen The O’Jays give a bad performance. As a matter of fact they would most likely turn the place out. I’ve seen them outdo EW&F, The Isley Bros., and even The Temptations. I can distinctly remember listening to Eddie Levert sing Let Me Make Love To You and I was feeling like I wanted to come out of my clothes. Now I tend to be rather conservative in my actions in the public and Mr. Levert is not the most handsome man I’ve seen. But, for a moment there I was his for the taking. The O’Jays are a great group who have withstood the test of time. Walter is a great singer too. You MUST react to You and Me by them. That is the best love song done by any other group or person. It is for sure baby making music…maybe even two or three. Please give it a listen. You will love it, especially you Mel. 😉
If you don’t listen to any other past group, you’ve heard nothing till you’ve heard the Delfonics: didn’t I blow your mind and Lala means I love you, you had to be there for real!!
Shawn and Mel you guys need to play a song called, What Love Has Joined Together. This song is by The Temptations. I'm sure you guys will LOVE it. I'm requesting this because I see the LOVE you have for each other.

Top tier soul singers. Wish they would bring this kind of music back. We sure could use it today.
Same here. I miss it so much
They don't make Songs or Artist like that Anymore.... Simple Message, Full of Meaning!!!

It was ridiculous how good they sounded. I get chills watching that performance every time. I love the O'Jays.
The biggest panty snatcher was Teddy Pendergrass.
I 'very watched this performance over an hundred times it gets better each time.
I knew you guys would love the O’Jays! They are amazing and one of my favorite groups! 💕

I used to love watching Soul Train. It had music that I wouldn't find anywhere else around the small little town I grew up in
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mighty Mighty Ojays
Pure fire and sexy sweat with no vulgarity. The art of a great song can do that.
They had a bunch of hits and not just Backstabbers, For the Love of Money, and Love Train. They just recently retired out of music, because Eddie Levert was having health problems and he recently collapsed during a performance.

Fantastic! Let’s change the tone a little. While the O’Jays are known for their Baby Makin’ music, please react to “For The Love of Money”.
