I love listening to your narration of ANY story. Ridiculous that someone would suggest you hire a female narrator! Some people spend way too much time looking for opportunities to be offended. And your American accent is pretty good; seems a lot of actors immediately fall into an exaggerated Texas accent when trying to sound American. Keep up the great work.

From one Lisa to another, I couldn't agree more. I love this man's voice! He could read ingredients lists or instructions for how to change tires, and I'd be here for it.
I enjoy his post-story chat, sharing information about about the author he read or the inspirations & bits of real life that pop up in his own stories, in which we get to learn more about him. I love the starry wallpaper behind him when he films himself reading.

I don't think it matters whether you're a man reading a story about a female or vise versa.. It's a fictional tale and provided it's done well it doesn't matter to me. Why limit yourself? By the way, I enjoyed the story, with a bit of extra detail it would make a good short horror film. Cheers 👍

The reason I click on any story you narrate is because your command of your voice and total absorption into each character makes any story come alive to me. Please- ignore the idiots criticising you for not getting a female narrator, or for reading 'female' stuff. They are probably listening to your excellent content for free. There are readers on some sites on you tube that set my teeth on edge and spoil my enjoyment of the stories because I can't concentrate on what they're reading, just how. Guess what- I just don't listen to those. I accept that many people are happy, and that the readers are doing their best, it's just not for me- I don't feel the need to leave them unkind comments.

The general rule is if you're narrating stories, your read all the characters. If i's a radio play, then actors read the lines. And none of those are etched in stone. You're doing a superb job. I started listening to audiobooks back in the late 70s or early 80s, and on cassette, when I started working on a lot of needlepoint, and I never cared whether the book was written by male or female, or whether the main character was male or female. All I cared about was whether the narrator was clear and easy to listen to. I think your narration style is very good and one I could listen to for hours, and have done while listening to your audiobooks. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the comments like what you were mentioning as I imagine most of your followers feel as I do. It took me a bit before I realized there was something “fishy in Denmark,” as they say, with the death of his family. Well done!

I enjoyed this story---I would love to escape to Scotland for some of its history and land atmosphere...the creepiest part of the reveal was the nature of situation that's hidden until the end. Don't want to spell it out and spoil it for new comers---but, it was unexpected and disturbing to be dropped into my imagination! I liked the bit regarding the painting too, I'm a Spirit Artist myself---and drawings and painting can be a portal for sure. Once again, I support you reading and narrating all kinds of stories, man or woman...phooey on these virtue signaling political correctness idiots. Good to address it, otherwise just ignore them.

Another great chilling horror story, thank you. I think your American accent is fine, equally it hadn't crossed my mind to think you shouldn't read a story where the main character is female. I just enjoy your work, and I enjoy listening to you read other people's tales, regardless of their (or your) gender. Maybe I'm just too simple a soul, I enjoy works of literature without trying to complicate things. I suppose if people find anything not to their liking they could just go and read a book themselves where they can use imaginary voices of both accent and gender to their heart's content.

Yeah, stuff 'em. A lot of traditional songs about women are sung by men and vice versa. Reading aloud is an art and, like any other art form, I don't like it when it's done poorly. A good audio narrator should have good diction, inflection, and pronunciation; good pacing, a voice that is easy to listen to, and can convey the subtleties the author intended. If a person has these, and you definitely do, you can read anything, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or nationality.
As a woman who writes from a male point of view, I certainly don't want people to say I can't. Don't like my work? Go find someone you do like.

This thing of which we aren't allowed to speak of on TH-cam ('rona) has hit so many of us in ways I never imagined. I promise you will be the 1st to know when I'm up and running again. I really miss doing it and I'd be over the moon if I had a chance to work with you.

Fantastic story. It doesn’t matter to me if you’re reading or writing from a female perspective. I don’t believe cultural appropriation exists.
    Keep up the great work!

Mr Walker this was very well done. The quality of this video is far superior
to those a few months back. The imagery lent
a great deal to the story .
It seems to me that your
    efforts are succsseding brilliantly.
    I wouldn't take seriously
    the concerns you expressed
    after the story. Follow your
    Instincts .
    Been an American all my
    life. You sounded American
enough to me. Noticed no flaws. But I think it would
have come off quite as well
    without adding an accent.
I wonder if your conciousnes of adding
    an accent might inhibit
    your emotional accentuations. Your
    narrations are on par with
    those on Audible.
I have been quite ill the
last few months so I have
    been listening to long works
    on Audible. The four great
Dostoyevsky novels. Contrary to critical opinion,
I think THE IDIOT is his finest work. But isn't it silly
    to waste time making these
    judgments? A work of art
is what it is. Now I am better than half way through WAR & PEACE.
I am so pleased to find
    your efforts are coming
    to fruition.
    And thank you.

Please don't get a female voice! It's awful when audio books do that. I have quite a few novels out in audio now and my male narrator does all the voices brilliantly. It's very jarring when you jump narration. It's not a play, after all. In a radio play they have another track of noise (street, birds, etc) that continues beneath the voice change which makes it seamless. When you try to do that voice change without it really jars the listener out of the story. Gosh, did these critics never have stories read to them as children? You take me back to that time of feeling safe and tucked up in bed and mum or dad sitting there reading to me. Fortunately, not one like this! Very creepy, very enjoyable. Thank you so much.

This channel has been alive for about three months now and it is the first time, I've had serious feedback about things, which is lovely. Mainly. After three months I have identified three recurring themes. Talking or not at the end. Mostly people are for it, some hate it. Accents and voices. Again opinion is mixed. Trigger warnings for touchy subjects. The problem here is some subjects are touchy to nearly everybody. I digress.
I'd love to do a proper play, but you are correct. These stories are not plays and traditionally one person reads a story.

People who think in terms of "cultural appropriation" simply don't know anything about cultural history and the cultural cross-fertilization that has created features of màny different cultures. "Stay in your lane" types are simply more interested in politics and power than art. Really, feel free to dismiss them without a second thought. Love what your work.

A bit late to the discussion... Personally, I think it's best to ignore the 'gatekeepers' (aka trolls) who try to control who can do what. As an older woman, I do understand the antagonistic perspective (been there, done that), but at this point it just seems needlessly divisive. Enough said; I'll spare ya my rant.
    Glad to see your face!
PS: When I was a kid, growing up in a very haunted house, the silverware in the drying basket next to the sink would periodically throw itself into the sink. CRASH, tinkle tinkle. More often than not it would be followed by the kitchen chairs scooting themselves out from the table, and other terrifying stuff like that. The silverware clattering in the drawer in your story gave me extra special shudders. Nice.

Very very good!! Well, I am Donna "Woobie" from Massachusetts!! I listened to "My Niece Alison" first. That was Wicked, good!! (I explained 'wicked' in my comment for My Niece Alison). The accent for 'Woman at the Door' was great, truly. At first I actually thought that you had an American read this, but thought it odd that the title didn't say: Read by... I am a Very Happy girl today!! You have no idea how much I needed this!!!! I tend to ramble so I'll be off to listen to more. I know I'll be commenting on them all. This is Great!! Thank you

I agree, a good reader (which you clearly are) can read anything. I listened to you reading The Catacombs, when it became apparant that the narrator was a woman I thought 'wait, what?...and then a second or so later it stopped being in any way an issue, if indeed it ever had been.

you DO NOT have to explain yourself, especially about cultural appropriation, because that is complete sh ite. Good story, woman's voice, man's voice. I didn't see any problem at with it. You read very well as far as dramatic build, and inflections and so forth. Nice job. I look forward to listening to more of your stories.

Male or female character, of course you should read it. What part of "narrator" do these people not understand? Just nonsense. I hear males reading stories from females and vice versa. If someone can't get past it, they should keep scrolling and good luck in life, because they are going to need it.

    Bloody ridiculous.
If I read Great Expectations, am I at fault because the voice in my head isn’t actually frickin’ Pip’s?
You can’t please everyone. If people cannot follow a story unless all spoken parts are correctly gendered, they clearly lack imagination, and may need you to act out portions of the stories, perhaps using sock puppets?
    Great reading. Love the channel.

Wonderful atmospheric story & as always beautifully narrated. Don't be bothered by complaints you're not hiring women for the female voices. Story telling is perhaps the most ancient art form, and almost every time, only one voice narrates the tale. It's NOT a play. I live in Poland and foreign films are voiced over by one voice (always a man, sadly), men, women, children, speak in only one voice. This is the way it was always done. At first it seemed strange, but you do get used to it.

Some people are never satisfied. Detractors are usually incompetent and always on the lookout for a place to gripe. In fact, my husband just commented that we live in a culture that loves to criticize and hate. Tony, you have a huge following of people who love your work. Those who don't don' enjoy it have the option to listen somewhere else. Ignore 'em and forge ahead!
