  • As you may have noticed from the title, I'm not in Scotland. I've ventured south, beyond the Scottish Borders, to a hinterland they call England.
I should also say that this whole video, all thirty-odd minutes of it, is just me sat on a seat in the hoose, and talking. Nae images of Leeds, just a verbal reminiscence of a short break in an English town I would definitely return to; the good points, the bad points, and the times when the Yorkshire accent baffled me.
I suppose you could say this is a tourist guide to Leeds. But don't expect to find much mention of Leeds Castle in the ramblings that follow. For Leeds Castle is not in Leeds, much to my annoyance.
During my short break in Leeds I used Whitelock's Ale House as my base, and most days I would sit in its gloriously quaint interior and sup ale. And, you know, Leeds is full of interesting visitor attractions that make the city a most desirable tourist destination.
On the pub front, you've got Whitelock's Ale House, The Adelphi, and Tetley headquarters across Leeds Bridge, at the foot of the Briggait.
For me, the most stunning visitor attraction in Leeds is the Royal Armouries Museum, a building bristling with suits of armour, knights on horseback and fighting gear and equipment over the centuries. Simply stunning.
Then there's the excellent Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, again, a superb visitor attraction in an old mill.
Further along the Leeds Canal there's the hamlet of Kirkstall, with its ancient abbey ruins and Abbey House Museum, both must-see attractions when in the area.
There's almost to many tourist attractions in Leeds to list. I suppose it depends on your interests. There's the main city museum, the art gallery with its Tiled Hall Cafe (do not miss it!), Thackeray Museum of Medicine with its Victorian Street and medical astonishments, the Kirkgate Market (probably the largst indoor market in Europe and an utterly fascinating place), and a whole load of stuff that you simply should not miss.
Oh, and did I mention the architecture? Go to Leeds and find out for yourself.
