I think if you let Katelyn's sweatshirt and pants soak in some super diluted purple dye, they'd probably take on a cooler pink tone and get the cotton candy vibe you're going for! The pattern is super cute it's just a tiiiinny bit too warm. Awesome stream as always :)
I was going to say the same. A light blue dye bath could look really good too since then it would go purple but I'm worried the yellowish parts might go green. Purple and green do look good together, however, that's not the look Katelyn was going for. Another option is simply to dye it a darker but cooler shade of pink. You'll keep the tiedye look, it just won't be white and pink just shades of pink. Now I don't like the color pink at all but if I did and wanted to keep it, I'd simply wet the whole outfit first then dunk it quickly in a bucket with a medium shade of pink (like, a 1 minute dunk for each) and check the color. Keep dunking them for short periods of time until you get a color you like. Personally though, I'd dip it in blue and make it purple. Blue and purple are two of my favorite colors (the other being green) so I'd be happy either way if it went fully purple or if it had hints of green. Though I might consider a bit of a dip dye gradient too, or just bleaching again to get as much of the color out as possible, lol. Plenty of options for what you can do and a few pink items to try them on so maybe a science adjacent tiedye/bleach dye rescue is in order. This time on color theory. 😁👍
I agree. Especially with the yellow undertone, a very light purple (maybe very watered down) would make the pink more pink and the yellow would whiten.
Please do another live stream of dying your least favorites. I think some of them could really come out winners. I think too that if Katelyn wanted, she could dye her whole meat outfit some sort of violet or blue, and the light vs. dark parts would still come out differently! I'd love to see how some Rit dye would change things!
Th joy when I se that you two uploaded an uncut craft project just as I was to sit down with my sculpting. Almost three continuous hours of the best noncommittal crafting "company"
If you really want to mask off areas of the shirt, there's a special type of wax you can get that you melt and paint onto the shirt and it soaks into the fabric so the bleach/dye can't bleed into that area. Then the wax comes out in the washing machine. I forget what type it is, but I've used it before.
I think another possible technique that could look really cool is using stamps, like the sponge ones. And Katelyn’s dot pattern could maybe be done with those big sponge daub things
I think Katelyn’s Ham Jogging ( Hogging?) Suit could be salvaged with a more blue based pink tie dye on top! Still, the journey to become Joob’s favourite snack is commendable
Even and Katelyn, next time try using a bleach pen so you can actually draw out designs and Clorox gel toilet cleaner works great too if you want details and control. Another TH-camr @superraedizzle did this and got a pretty amazing result. I’d love to see y’all do another livestream and try again!
You guys would have fun with batik wax resist! Also recommend checking out making your own indigo and shibori dyeing! I had a lot of fun in college for Textile & Apparel Design, print & dye classes were always the most fun!
I definitely think you can add dye over top of the "fails" and make some neat creations! I'd love to see the cropped hoodie with the same dot technique in a purple over top of the bleach!
I actually think the flames shirt is really good. The bottom kind of looks like a forest and the top part looks like the tops of the trees. They’re not flames but they make a good forest :)
I think if Katelyn took the grey cropped hoodie and just did some like purple or blue dye on the parts that were bleached, she’ll get a really cool look.
If you would like to experiment more with tie dye you could always try the ice method. Super easy and fun and I think you can do it with bleach too. ☺️ Love watching your videos and streams whether it be gaming or crafting. 😺
A lot of things will have an effect on how a piece of clothing bleaches, the mix of synthetic/natural materials in the fabric especially. Fun fact, one of the ways you can tell how much wool is in a wool blend material is by leaving a small piece of it overnight in bleach. In the morning, the bleach will have entirely dissolved the organic material, leaving only the synthetic portion. Natural fabrics will bleach much more dramatically than synthetic ones in most cases because they better absorb the bleach mixture and it can penetrate deeper into the porous fibers for cleaner edges try to find a sprayer that has more of a "mist" setting on it rather than spritz. spray from farther back, and don't fully saturate the fabric so it doesn't leak under the edges of your design. let the bleach to sit on the surface, you might have to go over it a couple times to get the depth of bleaching you want but it can give you very crisp lines!
Bleach will eventually eat away at the sprayer, depending on how long you guys had it in that bottle it may have started to and that's why it wouldn't spray lightly. At my job we go through like 10 spray bottles a month cause of bleach destroying them 😂
I am another vote for doing a stream of "rescuing" the "failed" bleach dyes! I think playing with various bleaching dye techniques could be worth continuing if it's fun for you. Sticky cut-out stencils where the pattern is the openings for the bleach rather than blocking off patterns would be really interesting to compare with what you've done as well. It would probably be helpful for making nice round circles rather than trying to spread the bleach evenly with just a bottle or even paintbrush/sponge.
I really like watching the UNCUT channel. Or rather, listening to it at work. Lol. It's an amazing way to pass several hours of time and then I can watch the edit on the other channel when I have time to spare at home. :)
About Katelyn's matching set... I'm just gonna say one thing: Mortadela. (Look it up and tell me I'm wrong xD) But seriously, I think if you dye it another color, like purple or maybe red, it would look super cool. Also, you guys have made me want to try bleach painting, so we'll see how that goes hahahaah
Talking about tye-dye Bob Ross--- maybe not tye-dye, but it would be really cool to see you guys try batik!! You would use wax as a resist to make a sharp line!
They sell bleach gel pens. You can keep them in your purse if you spill something on your white shirt. Spot clean up kind of thing. People draw with them on dark clothes. Also using a circuit to cut out sticky vinyl put it on a shirt, spray and then peel it off, works really good!. A lot of people also put the bleach projects in the sun while the bleach soaks in! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
This was ducking hilarious. Highlights are Evan and the pigeon jumper and Katelyn's reaction to Evan calling them flaps. The horizon shirt gives band shirt vibes.
I think the orange dye on the blue flame shirt may be due to color theory! Orange is the opposite of blue, so to mix a dark brown/black you would use the opposite color to dull it, then a little of the third primary color to make black - when mixing paint at least. 👍
That sweat combo. Katelyn looking like a literal snack.... with some meaty mold too. LOL. Honestly I didn't hate any of these other than Evan's "flame" shirt. I definitely second going back & just bleaching out the lines. I think all the mildew hoody needs is just some sprits of color.
Get those water markers that are for kids to use with the "mess free" coloring mats, and fill the marker with bleach solution. You can then draw directly onto the shirt with the marker. It's a fave technique of mine.
Midnight blue (the color of the blue shirt) is made with 9.8% red, 9.8% green and 43.9% blue. You are removing the main pigment and the under pigments are showing. Its the same reason the black turned orange.
Hey guys! Hope this helps: The blue in jeans is called indigo-carmine which is already alkaline like chlorine bleach, so this might explain why it isn't changing much. Long story short, if you use an acidic bleaching agent it should change its PH, and the blue will become a yellow color. This is why bleached jeans are often called "acid washed". Love you guys, keep creating!
Next time you should get or make some stamps and coat them with bleach and try stamping the shirts with different designs, play around with it and see what results you can get! Love all of the different pieces you did, a lot were really good!
I like tie dye just in general. But I LOVE subtle tie dye where it's just dark on dark or light on light. Those are my favorite I think because they don't viuslaly wear out unlike the "LOOK AT ME I AM TIE DYE!" tie dye. You know? You guys hit on a couple of winners.
I wonder how a full fabric dye on the pink meat suit would look. Maybe purple and soak it to be a gradient. It might become more sunset with the pale yellow hues. Dunno. But I'm all in for let's try to experiment again with some of the fails. It'll give ya permission to try more riskier ventures.
these videos are amazing. love you guys cant believe ive been watching for over 2 years, i still remember when the first pumpkin video came out 😂 oh francis
I make these types of tie dye all the time. You can use the craft paint sponges to essentially draw designs. (And afterwards use clean sponge to paint the tie dye) makes it all a little more controlled...
Love the idea of the pink clouds for the set. All you got to do for the yellowish tones to go away is to dye it completely in a light purple dye. The purple will cancel out the yellowness cause they're opposite colors and it should look nice and pink only afterwards. You just need a good balance of lightness of the dye and timing of how long to dye it! You guys could do it! You are pros at stuff like this! If the tones are more orange than yellow, use a light periwinkle dye instead. excited to see a video where you guys save all the ones you didn't like and fix them!
Hair bleach is actually hydrogen peroxide, just more concentrated. For the large spots, would stuffing the end of the bottle with cotton balls give you more control by slowing the flow of bleach? You could try toning the pink suit with a really dilute magenta dye to get more blue toned pink, to neutralize the orange pink? Even a _very_ dilute fuchsia?
In Katelyn's defense I saw a couple 💕 hearts! I've seen videos of a girl using those wooden cut outs from the dollar store as her stencils. You have that cutting machine, maybe make your own design. The girl I watched did the spraying outdoors in the sun. I did traditional tye dying with my 11 and 8 yr old grandsons in the summer. 11 yr old was pretty independent. The 8 yr old really got into it. I would say, 'Now Drew, remember to point the dye down on the shirt' He did, for about 2 seconds, then it was like he was welding a fire hose!! So much fun! Love watching your videos!
Totally need to redye them. I did some a while back, and I get so many compliments! If you have some you know you're not gonna wear, then you aren't out anything anyways.
I actually really love katelyns meat shirt it actually turned into a pretty pink. Maybe the hearts would work better with a black shirt because you get more drastic results with black. I loved the jeans! And the black shirt with the strip. Omg they all looked good. Like seriously. You guys are too hard on yourselves!
One thing that I think would be really cool is trying a fireworks pattern. Like if you spray a few small lines up and then use the mist spray at the top for the firework explosions.
PS you can buy our merch at shopevanandkatelyn.com/ (and after this video, you'll know which ones you can bleach and which ones you shouldn't haha)
The red CHAOS shirt just needs some tiedye!
I agree! Use some hot pink tie dye and maybe some magenta on the meat suit and it'll look more like your original vision! 😉
I don't see any youth sizes which is disappointing. My daughter watches you're videos religiously and has asked for some of your merch
You should have outlined the hearts with a bleachy cotton swab to clearly make them look like hearts. Just a suggestion. ❤️🏳️🌈🧩
Have a challenge for you two.. paint with beeswax first then die. The challenge is a 4 color shirt with comprehendable design.
I think if you let Katelyn's sweatshirt and pants soak in some super diluted purple dye, they'd probably take on a cooler pink tone and get the cotton candy vibe you're going for! The pattern is super cute it's just a tiiiinny bit too warm. Awesome stream as always :)
I just went to comment the same idea! I think it could work, especially if you won't wear it as it is.
we may have to try that!

Lol just saw this comment after I did mine 😋 this definitely would work!
I agree. Especially with the yellow undertone, a very light purple (maybe very watered down) would make the pink more pink and the yellow would whiten.
I love how the community genuinely cares about you guys. Like “wipe down the chair. Evan got his bleach hands on them” that was so nice of chat
If you really hate the bleached items afterwards you can always tie dye with color dyes over it and make it cool again.
They could post as many variations of this video and we'll still watch it
Katelyn panicing about making the chaotic shirt too chaotic with the hearts is so relatable 😂😅
Please do another live stream of dying your least favorites. I think some of them could really come out winners. I think too that if Katelyn wanted, she could dye her whole meat outfit some sort of violet or blue, and the light vs. dark parts would still come out differently! Yeah, some purple and blue would take it from “ham” to “galaxy”

It’s called batik dyeing … as they do that especially over in the asian countries

Evan is so good at just letting go and going with the flow of their creations.
I really like how the cropped gray sweatshirt turned out. It is subtle and looks organic (in a good way).
yeah comparing it to mildew seemed unfair. It had that classic acid wash look
I would totally watch a livestream where they save their failed tie dyes!!!
I actually think the flames shirt is really good. The bottom kind of looks like a forest and the top part looks like the tops of the trees. They’re not flames but they make a good forest :)
I loved the underwater basket weaving. The investment Evan made in the diving equipment will pay off if 10-20 years lol
I think if Katelyn took the grey cropped hoodie and just did some like purple or blue dye on the parts that were bleached, she’ll get a really cool look.
evan and katelyn take the meaning of skinny jeans to a whole other level
hahaha!
That was some next-level Pixar Mom legs.
I love watching your uncut videos!!
thank you!
Since we're on the topic of dying clothes, maybe you guys can try batik. It's pretty fun and much more precise for designs.
If you would like to experiment more with tie dye you could always try the ice method. Super easy and fun and I think you can do it with bleach too. ☺️
