As the season is ending for Kai. I just noticed he picked up allot of lessons playing the NBL - Kai learned to draw contact and getting to the FT line. - Posting up is not a thing in the NBL because there is no defensive 3 second rule. He has more success facing up. - Kai learned how to conserve energy. For example, he is not fighting too much to get positioning when someone is on the ft line. Its waste of energy. - He picked up right away that he doesn’t need to be fancy making shots. Just a simple one hand floater and catching a lob can get him easy points. - He knows and his teammates know where his spot is. If he gets to his spot he will shoot it. Like the corner three. He was already in motion to catch and shoot the three If Kai can build his stamina he has the potential to be dominant in the NBA. They are more spread out and they play slower. You just need to have the speed to get back in transition and defend pick and rolls.

See this happens when you actually put Kai in the game with more touches. It changes the complexity of the game. Kung di maka dunk for easy two, talagang iiwanan nya yung defender if naka high post then run on the finish with his agility, which will tend for defenders to commit more fouls and put him on the freethrow line. Sayang lg yung mga passes nya to the inside na di na read ng mga kasama nya. But he definitely need more muscles to cope up sa physicality ng Australian game. He has the feel for the game. Kelangan magsipag pa. At sana marealize ng coaching staff that there's more for him to offer pag nabigyan pa ng more minutes, to dominate the inside, and develop his outside games. Ps. Shout out sa coaching staff when they let Kai in when Big Liu is out. Sino pa ba magdodominate ng inside kung wala ng 7-footer na magbabantay k Kai. Easy baskets agad yun. Pero palpak na naman nung pinalabas si Kai when he's gaining momentum. Natawa na lg pati yung commentators.
I watched their interview with kai and the coach, the coach mentioned he benched kai since he notices kai is a little worn out and they need him more later in the game, kai was just supposed to rest for 2 mins according to the coach but he ended up resting for 4mins, coach cj even have to tell kai to get up from his seat. Great game for kai tho.

But the coach must realize that a hot hand's a minute rest seems like eternity- athletes whose momentum are shifting on their favor tend to recuperate drastically. Should he have opted to let Kai back in after a minute or two rest time could have spelled a different scenario. On the other hand, yung three points ng bullets ang nagdecide ng laban. Good game pa rin though sayang lg baka kasi Kai could have given more when he's still having good and solid game na di nastop yung momentum.

I don't see him getting drafted in this year's NBA draft when lots of NBA teams are either looking for a high-shooting% stretch big in the perimeter or a lane-clogging-threat-in-the-paint center to soak up rebounds and dissuade drives. Kai has been average at both.

He has excellent court vision and knows how to draw fouls, but his defensive play is rather underwhelming. It looks like he was struggling to box his man out in this game, thus resulting in his lack of boards. The way he goes to the basket could be prone to steals at the NBA level. While he does have good movement for his size, his lack of strength is definitely hurting him from playing to his full offensive capability.

This is one of Kai Sotto's better game in the NBL. I think his camp used this game as basis for their decision to let Kai declare for the 2022 NBA draft. I think they made a big mistake. This game proved that Kai wasn't NBA ready.

As a seven-footer having only 3 rebounds all game is really bad (with a plus minus of -9). He does not play to his strengths and is content to stay on the perimeter, he does not have the quickness or the lateral movement to compete at a high level in the NBA, heck he can't even dominate the Chinese center playing on the other side. If his goal is to be the first Filipino player to play in the NBA then yes he should just declare his intention to join the draft, join a bad team and play for a season with a team with garbage minutes and be out of the league after one season. BUT that should NOT be the goal, his goal should be to be the first Filipino NBA player to have a successful career in the NBA. I don't know who has been hyping him up and telling him he is ready to be an NBA player, but someone needs to seriously look him in the eye and tell him he is not ready. If he can't even dominate players in the NBL he's not going to miraculously do so with the more athletic, faster, and stronger NBA players. Stay in the NBL league for one or two seasons mate, work on your game, work on your conditioning, focus on impacting winning your teams games by playing to your strengths and be a rebounding monster on both sides of the court, and stay ready to play, it does not matter how many minutes you play so long as you make the most of the minutes you are given, put on more muscle and bulk so you don't get bullied by stronger guys working the paint, your height advantage becomes a liability if you get pushed out of the paint by smaller but stronger guys who play exclusively down low. I will give you an example if it's a choice between you a seven-footer and a six-nine center like Kevon Looney I'd pick Looney all day every day and twice on Sunday because his skillset is what is expected from a center. Can't even compare Sotto to Joel Embid or KAT if all he has going for him is his height and his youth at nineteen years of age. I get it Kai, you are young all you are interested in is scoring but a lot of players can score the basket, that doesn't make you special, if all you have is your height to fall back on, you are not going to go far. It's not a novelty to have a seven-footer score a three-point shot, Dwight Howard has done that more than once in his career heck even James Wiseman the number 2 overall pick has done it and he would probably bully you out of the paint if you face him. If you want your draft stock to be good mate you have to play to your strength, use your height, that thing can't be taught, be a ball hound and rebound the ball on both sides of the court, and work on your low post game wether that be a back to the basket or face-up game. (learn both) that's why you are not on the draft class list, at your current skill level your not going to be able to contribute to a team unless they are willing to have you train and work on your game as you play.

As a Filipino American I know the drastic difference with how Filipinos in America see things compared to Filipinos who live in the homeland. Hard to explain, but to keep it simple, Kai and his team have just made bad decisions in getting to the league and have massively skipped steps. First of all, Kai should’ve played in the NCAA for 3-4 years. It would’ve been the best for his development and he could’ve even got better exposure than playing oversees or even in the G-League. Then, I mean he never should’ve left the G-League Unite team for some trivial reason and declaring early is just another example of skipping steps. It’s a shame because in this video I see the talent and think he can be in this league in some capacity. I also do see the limitations and weaknesses and it would’ve been better for him to work on this in a more stable environment.
