This is what I loved about E8s. Well the 90secs cutscene was obnoxious after the 200th pull, but I guess I still can listen to that song and quote most voice lines when they'd happen at a certain point in the fight lol
The fight would not have been the same without this banging tune, there's something so epical but also an extreme sense of urgency that you are ACTUALLY trying to not get your soul stolen, once again musical story telling by Soken and the sound team doing a magnificent job.
Going from a lament in phase 1 to a last stand in phase 2. The boss appearing with the epic choral moment. The only quiet, somber moment in the song being the part that shares a motif with her sister. Absolutely great storytelling.
the map transition is ridiculously well placed with the song, then tail switch slamming everywhere with purple lightning into a bigger storm aoe with that guitar, the remix of Give it all which is already such a masterpiece, the breakcore, the 3:17 drops into such a suspense as the rings slowly fall into massive aoes, the strings building up the fear; as if Give it all couldn't be topped, this theme comes right after! The announcer is such a great touch to voice events happening based on your moments and hers, they really sat down and demanded the greatest fight possible.
The beginning of this song has Abyssal Fracture vibes for sure, love how the music has the sense of desperation in it. Like we are really fighting for our soul. Such perfection!
If you look closely on the “crystals” surrounding the arena it has reflections of the normal Wicked Thunder and what she did in the past. Also Wicked Thunder doesn’t escape or get knocked out in the savage version, she just straight up dies
Phase 1's music sounds like the lament of a hero, or a fallen hero, who knows she may not live to see tomorrow. Phase 2's music sounds like that same hero's last stand. Her plot armor is gone, but she's going down swinging.
it's pretty cool honestly, it makes sense. The whole canonical concept of the savage fights in this one is a spectators perspective who heard our story. But we wouldn't have told him that she needs our soul to survive because that would mean the secret is out. So he would only assume her goal is to kill us, because that's the only way to win against someone in the ring without a regulator lol if it was ShB / EW I'd say that was 100% written from that perspective to maintain consistency but now i'll only say i hope it was intentionally done like that xD

This is most likely because the savages are created by the Wol’s imagination combined with the npc’s tales, so presumably the Wol adjusted out obvious inconsistencies in the story.

If you read the actual conversation with the guy who "writes" the savage fight based on his perspective and our retelling, it all makes sense. He brings up the idea of them doing bigger and badder things etc, as well as he wouldn't know the secret about the soul situation so that also explains why she doesn't talk about our soul in it and instead is just trying to kill us (if she talks about the soul please share because i haven't seen any dialogue that does)
Those 2 whip like tentacles kinda remind me of something similar to a Coerl, they are electrical beasts in some games too, so it could be interesting fit there, but I don't know where this Water and Fire Element are coming from if it's something Coerl adjacent
back in day during e4s titan did the same thing, went from it's normal mode theme straight to the titan ultimate theme from UWU when p3 starts. it was also the most chaotic phase of the fight that's sadly skipped nowadays due to unsync.

I have a headcanon for this fight during Sunrise (it happened during a reclear for me) Sunrise goes off, and it's just too much for the challengers. Everyone falls except a tank and healer. The other 6 start to feel their souls being taken, The tank cries out for the healer and a burst of potent healing magic is cast (Healer LB3) Wicked Thunder being stopped only fuels her desire to take our souls and pushes the challengers to the brink (enrage) We cleared btw, and its the reason why this fight is my favorite fight currently.

E4S titan is almost exactly like this in starting out as a smaller boss inside its arena then transitioning to a huge version hanging off the side, without a checkpoint. Though the transition involved more downtime than this.
FFXIV raids history lesson: ARR raids actually had trash mobs before the bosses. Heavensward had doorbosses on the first floors (the Fausts). Stormblood saw the introduction of checkpointed door bosses on the final floor like we're used to now, and have been used ever since except for E4S, E8S, and now M4S.

the 2nd phase feral soul is definitely a Marilis, which is a boss from ff9 some of the 2nd phase attacks are shared between them, like... raining swords, flame slash, sword quiver
My kill was due to me and WHM surviving Sunrise boom and finishing her off with our OOMPFS attacks we had. Rainbow Drip and Glare 4. Ppls should stop greeding Sunrise and make sure to perform it frfr.
I really prefer the approach of no door boss + interactive phase transition they took for this boss. Having to watch the E4/8S cutscene dozens of times got tiresome.
Better to watch cutscene once per lockout than repeat 6 minute phase 1 every single pull. No to mention all Witch Hunt and EE2 memes that would not happen if it was normal 2 part encounter.
@@Sllandre It's still like 30ish seconds of downtime with nothing going on. One of the reasons I loathe the Nier raids is because of how many of the bosses have forced downtime phases.

She's essentially using Electrope to alter her body's aether, so it's not so much a feral soul as fusing herself w/ the electrope she uses for combat

I really prefer the approach of no door boss + interactive phase transition they took for this boss.
Having to watch the E4/8S cutscene dozens of times got tiresome.
Better to watch cutscene once per lockout than repeat 6 minute phase 1 every single pull. No to mention all Witch Hunt and EE2 memes that would not happen if it was normal 2 part encounter.
E4S didn't have a cutscene? It wasn't as interactive, but you still had full control during the phase change, and it was very short.
@@Sllandre It's still like 30ish seconds of downtime with nothing going on.
One of the reasons I loathe the Nier raids is because of how many of the bosses have forced downtime phases.
E4s is better than e8s since they didnt stun you, while e8s you need to watch hraesvelgr appear again and again each time you wipe lel

I like how when she reappears, she gets her theme of "Give it All" playing in the melody, but when we get to attack her, the triumphant sounds of Shadowbringers start playing.
i think thats still the same leitmotif as m1/m3/m4 have, just in a different tempo, it doesnt sound that much like shadowbringers to me.
