The fact that they had people still carrying on cheering at the fireworks makes the scene so much more effective and of note hence the comments about it here. It is very hard to except that life goes on after a character dies and this scene illustrates this perfectly.
I miss Dennis sometimes! He was such a great character and him and Sharon were a perfect couple! He would still be around if it wasn't for Phil as he was partly responsible for his death.

Killing off Dennis and Steve Owen were the worst mistakes EE ever made. Two amazing characters with so much more potential and life left in them in the future, wiped away because they wanted a dramatic ending scene.

They only killed him off because Martin Kemp had a contract with ITV lined up for after he left, so the BBC killed him off out of pettiness.

I don't understand why they would make a scene seem so unrealistic, a guy gets stabbed in the street, his woman shouting and screaming while holding him begging him not to die. Yet people are standing singing Auld Lang Syne. What is it about Eastenders that makes people still watch it, even though it's really bad?
Because for those of us who haven't lived sheltered lives, we can relate. Eastenders is one of very few shows where I truly identify with the characters especially as we've grown up with them and know their history. That sort of context deepens the complexity of interpersonal relationships and the immersion to a level where we can suspend disbelief for artistic license here and there. This scene is so poignant, the juxtaposition of her screams and sobs whilst the music and merriment continues, oblivious. People are easily distracted and stuck in their own little worlds. You would be amazed at what people can ignore or not notice or pretend not to notice... Scenes like this, although dramatic, do happen and at the very least serve as a powerful metaphor for less extreme examples.
Even worse, Phil stood there and everyone else carried on singing. Dennis would have been a good dad had he got the chance. Very different to Den. If only Ian didn't stop the taxi, Phil not goaded Dennis into attacking Johnny, Sharon not gone to the party

Eastenders changed somewhere between 2005 and 2006 and not for-the-better. Dennis’ death (as brilliantly-written as it was) was just an elucidation of that.
If I lived in Albert Square, I'd go on holiday for Xmas and New Year, coz some tragedy always happens around this time of year! Still, the Xmas/New Year episodes are usually the best of the year!
Haha! Really?? EastEnders ended here for me. I remember thinking as a kid that Dennis n Sharon's story is way too prime that it just can't be done the same way with the same epic actors again. I look forward to the day Denny is all grown up to start watching properly again. The writers have no choice but to make that kid's character grow up to OWN the Square, having Den and Dennis Rickman as blood. And with Leslie, Nigel and Letitia being AMAZING actors they better find someone brilliant! :D

It was Danny Moon that stuck the knife in. What Phil says to Sharon in 2014 when she comes back is that he "killed" him. He didn't physically kill Dennis, obviously not, but he felt responsible because he told Dennis about Johnny and started the sequence of events that led to this.
I think the character who lights the fireworks was mechanic Gary Hobbs. He was married to Kat Slater's sister Lynn. His pal was Minty, who also worked in the garage.
Sharon watts has got to be the greatest actor in the history of Eastenders, Ronnie was showing signs of being a really gifted actor up until the point of hers daughters death. I would say that Janine before she left Eastenders was one of the best.

They also consider Sharon family as well so she was probably just simplifying it for Bex's little head. She probably even referred to her as aunt Sharon, given how close Sharon was to their family.
He was called "Uncle" as a term of endearment - close family friends quite often get referred to by that name but are not related to the child in question. Thinking about it, Pauline was both Bex's and Vicki's grandmother which makes those two cousins and as Vicki and Dennis were half-siblings, that would make him Bex's half-cousin (if there is such a thing).
