I used to physically edited 2" quad tape. This is where you marked the tape with a grease pencil and cit the tape. You then placed a chemical known as "edivue" onto the tape so you can see the frame pulse. You then cut the tape, gone onto the next point, did the same thing, then joined the two end together with very thin splicing tape. You placed it back on the machine to watch your edits :)
