      Found this video very helpful, as my daughter is having a handfasting ceremony during her traditional wedding. I have only one thing to say and I'm not sure where I would put it I would rather it was private, but I don't know how to do that. When you play with your hair, it is distracting. It's lovely, but perhaps you should wear it down your back when you're making a video. ❤️

    I kind of love the idea of saying your vows while your hands are being tied together so that your vows are being tied with your union

    Handfasting is not just a "tradition" to add to your wedding. Some of us handfast period. My love and I do it each year, commiting to each other for a year and a day. There are lots of reasons people do it, we do it because it reminds us to not take the relationship for granted, it does not involve "legal" or government and it is our kind of spritiual.

    My person and I are doing this for our wedding. I am Irish (my first name is Irish Gaelic) and we're both not very religious do to bad experiences involving it, but I am wiccan and we're both also a percentage native American and want to have dream catchers at our ceremony. I am also scandinavian, so I would love to involve some Viking traditions. Our wedding will most certainly shock his Catholic parents and my biblical ones, but again it is OUR wedding. But your video was so helpful! Thank you! I subscribed!

    I’m a few weeks shy from my ceremony and will be doing a hand fasting. We did sooo much research on it, I love that there are so many ways to do it! We headed to our craft store and bought three types of ropes/chords of colors we wanted to represent us and our life as a couple.
    Thank you so much for this video, I can’t tell you how much I wish you made this video months ago LOL but it’s always late than never. ☺️
    BTW I love that you decided to make your own chord! I too saw them on Etsy and felt they were really pretty but way pricey. I love the ones you did! We would have made our own but since we want to perform the “tie the knot” and display it we opted for the three individual chords.

    This was really helpful, thanks! I'm getting married next year and we're having a handfasting ceremony but still need to work out the logistics of it. I have found that where I live (in the UK) there are a few celebrants who can do handfasting ceremonies so I'll be looking to use one of those! Getting married is a little more complicated here as you can't just have a friend or family member get officiated, and weddings have to take place in specific licensed venues. So what a lot of people do is have a licensed wedding in a registry office, then have a celebrant come to their actual venue and do an "unofficial" ceremony which is more personal and customised!

    • @BrittanyPlansaWedding
      @BrittanyPlansaWedding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I get it. That's tough. Maybe you could show them some videos of handfastings being done in Scotland and Ireland (I think there are some on TH-cam) - sometimes they're even done in a church, along with a ring exchange and other traditions, and don't have to be incompatible with religious ceremonies

    • @fairyduckling

      Your wedding is a day for the two of you to profess your love. You do it how you want! I personally wouldn't worry about what my parents want, it's not their wedding and it's not their marriage, but if you want to please your parents, you can add the handfasting into the traditional christian wedding/p :)

    • @kristibunny1620
      @kristibunny1620 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m sure you’ve done it by now and I’m sorry I missed it if that’s the case (add it to a vow renewal) my pastor grandfather use to do these and had no idea of the organ roots. If you are religious use the third cord (white or gold normally) to represent faith and how your relationship is strong because of the faith woven into it. If you’re Christian there’s a verse about a cord of three strands being stronger and I’m sure lots of other faiths incorporate things about rope or cord.
      Not religious the third can be your love, or the support of your community.
      Just some thoughts and I hope that helps. (My father is a pastor too and I’m a Christian witch so that’s a fun mix of letting things mean what people interpret them to mean while directing those interpretations)

      I have actually seen these done at Irish Catholic weddings. Also you don’t have to make it a big deal. I’ve seen it done and didn’t even realize or even think anything about it. I just thought it was a really cute thing. If you have an already gotten married. I say go for it

    I also recommend writing your own script. I wanted a broom ceremony as part of my wedding and because it was a Christian officiant and he didn’t understand the deep significance of the ceremony he made light of it by saying it was sweeping away the ‘dust bunnies’ of our past. I was really upset and it actually kind of ruined the ceremony for me. If I had taken the time to write something for him I am sure the minister would have just read it as written and I would have had the experience I was hoping for. Don’t just trust your officiant will infests f your desire for a hand fasting or what it means to you. Write it yourself.

    So my partner and I can’t legally get married due to us being on disability (if we legally marry our combined incomes become one and we lose approx $300 for every month). We are both pagan and our families are Christian and we are wanting to do a hand fasting for our wedding. We’re in MI and we’re not sure if any officiants would agree to “marry” us when we’re not making our marriage legal. Any advice?

    • @BrittanyPlansaWedding
      @BrittanyPlansaWedding  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! Sorry I'm so delayed on this... just seeing your message now. I wonder if it's an option for you to ask a close friend or family member to do the ceremony for you? If it doesn't have to be legal, is it necessary to have a "real" officiant? It might be much more personal (and take a lot of the pressure off) to have someone close to you perform the ceremony exactly as you want it.

  • @NikkiPiskorowski83
    @NikkiPiskorowski83 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ok so we already have a infinity knot on our cord, is there a simple ceremony where we just lay the cords on and around our hands? It’s going to be something we’re doing apart from exchanging our rings.

    • @BrittanyPlansaWedding
      @BrittanyPlansaWedding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, of course! I love the idea of simply laying them over your hands, no knot-tying necessary. It's simple and easy, no fuss. If you wanted to, you could have someone (or more than one person) special to you lay the cords over you and your partner's joined hands. Done!
