Great video, loved seeing my local roads in the first half. Yes, there are a couple of sections (like between Matamata and the Waikato trails) where you can't avoid a couple of state highways... and they suck. You can take a route through t Cambridge and the other side of Lake Karapiro but that is a hilly and long diversion. As a general rule I tell people to avoid all yellow roads (the State highways) on the map and they'll be better riding options.
Kia Ora, and welcome to Aotearoa. Yeah, Crate day is awful, as are the drivers. Kiwis , once out of their cars, are some of the most friendly people, just spoilt by cars and roads. Enjoy your trip, it's a great experience. Travel safe, and keep the supple side down.
Get yourselves some brims to do around your helmets, will provide a lot more shade and gives you slightly cooler air around your face, which will help with heat exhaustion.
Great vid. Brining back the memories of the TA. Yeah, that section out of Matamata is a bit scary...maybe they should put a gravel cycle path on the shoulder?. Can't wait to see the south island leg.
Great video - looking forward to seeing the South Island. Is the long sleeve cafe du cyclists top from a recent collection? Can’t see it on their website. Thanks!
Great video as always, hope you both have a great time, can I ask is your rack mounted on the mudguard eyelets Josh ? I only ask as I planned the same but have been told is a definite no no if it’s a carbon frame ?
Hands down the best bikepacking video of seen of the North Island.
Cracking watch that, looking forward to the next one.Well done u 2. Nic will be made up to see you washing the bikes Josh.
I’d be very impressed if that bike is actually clean. 🤣

They are friendly people but yeah some of those trucks are terrifying
Epic adventure, beautiful country and good riding mates. Doesn't get much better then that. Thanks for the video and take care, Al

Some connecting gravel paths would be amazing
Thanks again Josh , that was very cool ! ,Did you count the bridges ? Have a safe trip home , the mechanic awaits .
I didn’t count the bridges but there were many along the way. Got the South Island next.
@ very cool thanks for sharing. Your vids are amazing.
Too many to count... by the second half it's "Oh, another spectacular bridge"
@ true. What a place
What’s that screw driver looking tool you’re using that clicks like a torque wrench? Is it part of a set or what. I’m interested
Great video - looking forward to seeing the South Island.
Is the long sleeve cafe du cyclists top from a recent collection? Can’t see it on their website. Thanks!
Yeah it’s café du cycliste. You’ll find it in the off bike collection. It’s one of my favourite jerseys for keeping the sun off as well as being light
Thank you! Is it the Ambre?
Great video as always, hope you both have a great time, can I ask is your rack mounted on the mudguard eyelets Josh ? I only ask as I planned the same but have been told is a definite no no if it’s a carbon frame ?
Yes they are eyelets. No issues yet and it’s been over some bumpy terrain. I wouldn’t say I recommend it but I’ve got a lot of camera gear to carry.
what are your sunnies? 😎
Café du Cycliste Fabius Photochromic sunglasses
Great video! Shit luck being at a camp site on crate day, that would have been a punish.
