Common problem with vloggers. Your viewers watch you long enough they begin to feel you are friends. Paul, Gio and Tim have all mentioned people just popping up at thier homes. Probably nothing, but I get it....creepy.

Like you said, that can (and has) happen in America as well. It's just easier to control in your native land because you know the lay of the land better, as well as the police dept, and other options. I would imagine it would be much more disturbing outside of your native comfort zone.

My German Shepards are being trained to not accept food. (One of them will go after anyone besides my kids and wife.. even other family members:( Wife has applied for weapons permit. We are on very good terms with all our neighbors and contribute to the community. Family is well connected and is a former barangay security official. Not that many white guys just wandering around in the provinces in Mindanao. I would imagine that it would be pretty easy to pinpoint your whereabouts in a small town by just asking around. Let’s face it- you stand out easily. A darker skinned Filipino American like myself traveling around the provinces could get a little less attention as long as I dressed like the locals, and kept my voice down to hide my American accent.

It's not because you are a foreigner, although being white and having a youtube channel helps.. but it is mainly because you are a lawyer.
These people are looking for ways to spread their agenda.
I won't say it here in the comments but any local is well aware of these groups that live in the mountains/rural areas. They like to recruit professionals.
When I was a student, we have a community outreach in far flung areas and they befriended my doctor friends and invited them to join their cause. My friends just politely refused.
They are just reaching out to you because if they intend to harm you, I'm sure they won't stall and would have done that already.

I think if you put yourself out there on TH-cam in PH, you are going to stand out, if someone takes the slightest interest in you and you are in a smaller community it is not going to be hard to find you. Once found, not hard to follow you home and know your residence. I doubt you can get away from that in PH as you don't exactly blend in. Anyone who does not want that kind of attention or publicity really should not be on TH-cam in PH. Answer is pretty simple, want absolute privacy, don't start a TH-cam channel in a foreign country where you stand out.

I had experienced a similar situation, only it involved X Filipina gf(s). Thankfully I lived in a condo with good security and I have a really good relationship with the security and maintenance staff. Unfortunately, cramped communal living takes its toll after a while so I’ve been looking for a good gated subdivision for my permanent dwelling. For the $, the condo life is the best bang, because you can’t beat 24/7 security in a small enclosed area. Stay safe.

You did the correct response by leaving the area ASAP. Remember your neighbors and domestic help talk openly to their friends and family, and if your dogs didn't bark then the letter was given to someone close to your family who knew your dogs and was able to deliver it to you. Also remember you are a guest in this country, so don't get involved in politics.

I felt very naked in the Philippines. I've carried everyday since 1995 in the states. That's a big time no-no in the Philippines for foreigners. . Someone below mentioned that their wife was going to apply for a weapons permit. Most of those living in the provinces have knives that are used to cut firewood. There are many things that can be used as an improvised weapon. But just the same, the penalties could be severe depending on the law enforcement officer and the situation.

Im always amused that the guards at my condo are not armed, don't even have anything locked away for emergencies... But when I go with my fiance to her University every guard has a sidearm.
I mean, the condo complex is nestled away in a neighborhood, one entrance, but I find it interesting nevertheless.
Maybe its just a Davao thing, I've said it before this is the safest city I've ever lived in.

That s strange but your only a TH-cam blogger not to sounds not considered but being a police officer in the USA and ex army. If you and your family are feeling like your in any danger why do TH-cam sorry you put your family in danger even at 1%

  • @vikingrogaland2844
    @vikingrogaland2844 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Aha, so that is the reason for the quick move.
I have filmed my house and put on TH-cam, but should probably avoid it in the future. We are building a house in a small village in a very remote area, and I put those videos out there. In that scarcely populated part of the Philippines I would be noted by everybody, very easily. And there are terrorists up in those mountains, so I am allowed by my family to trek too high up there.
So yes, it is a risk. Now my family just moved to another house in Digos, and there was a guy who were acting very suspicoulys, spying on the house, walking back and forth, like observing how he can enter. I am not there for the time being, so my wife got some relatives - a young strong man and his wife - to stay there. Our current dog is too small and too shy as of now, so we should probably buy a large scary dog.
When I go back there, I will try to install some security device. The neighborhood will make the place more enclosed, and hire 24 hours security. There are nasty rumors that thieves are breaking in at night time in that province, and some times kidnap people, or otherwise robbing, molesting and even killing the people.
And of course those stories are true to some extent, even in big cities like Cebu. I remember when I lived in Cebu, there were so many horrible stories like that in the Newspapers. So safety is definately a big concern. That is why Duterte was so popular as a Mayor in Davao city. We all know the story, like it or not, but he made Davao city probably the safest area in the Philippines during those 20 plus years.

Thanks for the insight and wondered about this, even though I have no experience with it myself. Think I have finally decided upon settling in a small city like Bayawan for lower housing cost, a quiet life-style ( I don't drink) and from all the information I can find Bayawan is a safe and peaceful place for Xpats to live. Also it's not too far from Dumaguete if I want to shop in the malls or need a hospital.
