I would also argue that given how States and Federal Government work in the USA, states are more like their own countries within the country themselves given the comparison to how states in other countries act/govern.
@@Zivin size of a state doesnt really matter both russia and australia have significantly larger subdivisions and are federal systems but excluding the rare secession movement there isnt value in viewing them in the same way we view countries

@@bahmuut4825 I did address the second half i specifically drew comparison to australia because it has both larger states and is structured more as a federal system than a unitary one like the US, it just doesnt make sense to view states in a similar way to independant countries because they are in a federation not a confederation The core fundamentals of each state are the same and you dont need a passport to transition through the country, the states dont have their own soft/hard power all that is done through the federal government the only real argument for them being more independant is culture but they are fairly multicultural and most countries have different internal cultures dependant on region If either of us need to learn to read its you that or you just dont know the difference between federal/unitary structures and how common each structure is because the US isnt the only federation in existence
