    So far the best video when it comes to a homemade auger drilling system for drilling holes for posts.

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank You. To tell you the truth, after the initial 50 holes, I vacuumed out the rest. I just had to break the top 3-4 inches of grass and everything underneath (in my case) was sandy soil. Sometimes it was packed sand, but easily breakable with just the tip of the plastic vacuum extension.

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true. I have a post level on one of the corners, but I found very quickly that it was useless to a point. The uneven ground and shifting drill bit due to the roots and dirt made the perfect hole quite rare
      However, as the holes were 6” wide and the posts were 3 1/2, it was fairly easy to use a post level to adjust the posts after dropping them in the hole. Having two people would’ve helped the procedure considerably. But the fence still looks great after 3 years.

    Great idea thank you. I just had shoulder replacement I was worried about running the auger.

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works pretty well. For a future design I would’ve incorporated the wheels so you could just tip it and roll it around, but for a one time use like I had, this was adequate. Funny enough, I use this for the first 50 holes and then I saw that the sand was pouring back in half the hole so I used a shop vac with a slight cotton cyclone in order to obtain the 3 foot depth. For the next 20 holes, I broke the ground with a shovel and continued to use the shop vac. The post hole digger is definitely quicker regardless of the sand pouring back in. The last 80 holes were dug out like the first. From start to finish it took me five days to put up 2000 feet of field fence. In my mid 50s, I didn’t work more than 2 to 3 hours a day. Well worth it considering they wanted to charge me $22,000 and my total cost was about $2000.

    Do you have a Video of How You Made the Frame for the Digger Auger

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. Sorry. I don’t. It’s just a simple 2x4 box with 2 vertical 2x4’s used as rails for the 2x4 frame I attached to the handles of the auger.

    I wonder if you could have rigged something up with a 8-10’ foot ladder and mounted a wench underneath it?

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. But the thing about this design is, the structure compensates for torsional forces from the auger drill. With a ladder and winch, while simply elegant, you would have to still hold the auger from twisting. There are two rails along the side of the tower that prevent this.

  • @georgie4808
    @georgie4808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Would it help to make guide runner tracks vertically so the machine moves downwards in a smooth straight motion? Or would that cause more problems? Something like this makes that sort of job possible if you have a bad back and can’t repeatedly lift stuff. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The machine actually has guides. The top part rides on 2 2x4 rails. No point in having a tail on the bottom as it would prevent a deeper hole.
      The action will never be smooth(er than it is) however as the auger is what causes the motion and driving force downward and it quite jittery.

    Hi there, can you sell me the design of the frame for the auger?

    • @JaviUnboxed
      @JaviUnboxed  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m sorry. I never made plans for it. Just slapped together a bunch of 2x4’s as a frame. I took into account the inner dimensions to include space for 2 2x4’s to be used as a rail. Then I simply attached the auger to more 2x4,s to slide on the two opposing rails. The auger and wood attached to the handle slips in from the bottom onto the rails. (Actually, I turn it sideways to slide it in.) after it’s in the frame, I attach the winch to the eyelet on the contraption. The winch is simply mounted on a couple 2x4’s. It’s not a pretty design. Just practical.
