    I like that they went with transparent options for this pen. It really shows off the mechanics of it, that's a cool design decision.

    I really enjoy these pens I have three of them 😆 I prefer the fine, it is very reliable it doesnt skip and keeps up with fast writing too. I really enjoy the feedback I get with it, it is a EDC for me. Great review and glad it came in the spotlight on your channel. I just wish they had more colors and maybe a Broad nib as well, I would love to see a Orange one but that is just me!

      I agree. It is a great EDC pen. I too wish we got more nib grades and colors. I hope Platinum will continue to develop this line.

      That's my favorite ink.
      How's that pen working with baystate blue ink? Ink flow is bad with my platinum plaisir and preppy with that ink. My pilots love this ink. I'd appreciate if you let me know.

    I just ordered the clear demonstrator in medium nib and super excited! I've become a bit of a pen geek and love the retractable action and that you can see the mechanism inside! Paid just over $40 USD, seemed like a steal!

    Thanks for this thorough review! How smooth is the nib compared to the Pilot VP? Is there much feedback? Thank you!

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they are very comparable. The VP comes in more nib sizes though. I don't notice any issues with feedback. I think they are quite smooth for how fine they are

  • @cd3694

    My Curidas pen hard starts every time. Tells me the closure flap is not sealing properly, allowing air in. My VP works like a dream .

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use my fine nib one all the time without issue. The VP does have more hardy metal parts.

    $155.oo cad, I paid for my Platinum Curidas...Not impressed with it. I didn't get the Clip removal, didn't get a convertor , or no Cartridge....It's a common fountain pen...nothing special about it.

      @BlakesBroadcast  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am sorry you do not like your Curidas. I am not sure why yours didn't come with a convertor or cartridge.

  • @buckaroobanzai2551

    The steel nib vanishing point is called the pilot capless and is only $75. Just to clarify. The vanishing point has a gold nib.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That isn't correct. In Japan they don't use the "Vanishing Point" name. They are all called "Capless" including the premium 18kt gold nib models. www.pilot.co.jp/products/pen/fountain/
      I think the confusion comes from the fact that the steel nib "Capless" is not sold by Pilot Pen USA so if you see it on eBay or Amazon it is from a non-US source.

    • @buckaroobanzai2551
      @buckaroobanzai2551 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is that what it is? I've bought all my steel nip "capless" pens thru Amazon.

    thanks for sharing. How would you rate this for pocket carry? I assume it'd be pretty good due to the mechanism and door, though how well the door seals it...

    • @BlakesBroadcast

      I don't pocket carry my fountain pens so I cannot really say one way or the other.

    Worst retractable fountain pen. It's cheaply made. It breaks. It's oddly bulky even for a retractable fountain pen. Poorly designed mechanism. Flimsy nib door. Average steel nib. It's barely lighter than a vanishing point. Overpriced at $80 from most retailers... frankly that's absurd.
    The Curidas should MSRP at $50 and street price should be around $30-$40. Yes, the vanishing point is $120-$160, but it also has an outstanding GOLD nib and objectively FAR superior build, materials, engineering, mechanism, durability, etc.... ALSO... you can currently get a "special alloy" Vanishing Point for $60-$70 (basically steel nib). All of that completely dismantles and value proposition for the curidas...
    You're out of your mind if you honestly think the Curidas nib is as good as a VP nib. It's not.
    Honestly, there really is not much going on in there... It's a standard pen knock mechanism found in the cheapest Bic pens. There's a sleeve with an extra spring in the front to push the door open while the main spring pulls it closed... the door is all one piece, there's no hinge. It's definitely going to break eventually. There's no actual seal. It's an awful design choice. There are certainly more problems with this pen, but I'll leave it there.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for your comment. I don't think I could tell the difference between the Curidas fine and the 18kt VP fine if they were in the same pen. The nibs are nails in both pens and both write beautifully and have been equally reliable.
      Unlike the VP, the Curidas mechanism functions without the nib touching the door. Saying it is the same mechanism as the cheapest Bic pen doesn't seem right to me but I understand your point regarding the lack of a hinge and seal. I have had no issues with drying out though.
      I suspect a metal bodied VP will be more durable than the Curidas but that would be the case with any metal bodied pen over a plastic one. I do have an older style faceted Namiki VP and this model was known to crack, but that may be down to age.
      Either way the VP is one of my all-time favorite pens, and the Curdias is a welcome addition that I have really enjoyed using.

    • @squirts1
      @squirts1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BlakesBroadcast I can easily tell the difference between the curidas and VP nibs. My VP nibs are noticeably smoother and softer than the Curidas. I've never heard anyone describe the VP nib as a "nail." Sure, it's not a flex, but it's by no means a nail (like a parker steel nib, those are nails).
      The VP nib touching the door has never been a problem and the Curidas I have puts an ink trail on the door as well.
      The actual knock mechanism itself is identical to that of a clicky bic/papermate junk pen. It's a series of long and short grooves molded into the back of the barrel with the tips cut at 45 degrees and a plastic cam that rides along the grooves which cams over into the next slot when knocked. There's nothing inherently wrong with that... but the overall build and design do not support the $80 pricepoint.
      The rest of the mechanism is cheaply made and prone to failure. The J slot and nub that are supposed to hold the nib unit in place and keep it tracking straight... you can just wiggle the nib unit and bypass that entire thing. The nib unit can be inserted out of alignment, or it could inadvertently rotate in the body jamming up the pen due to poor tolerances.
      There are 2 small plastic claws in the grip section, those hook over a lip on the nib unit. That's the only thing keeping the door closed. They designed the Curidas door mechanism to spring itself open rather than closed. When those little clips wear out or break (and they do) the door stays open.
      Again, the door itself is a very very thin piece of bent plastic. Every time you click it you are weakening it. Just like bending a credit card until it breaks.
      There are simply too many failure points and small weak plastic clips and unergonomic nubs all over this pen for Platinum to be charging $80.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I understand your points. The price is on the higher side after Platinum raised the price from the original $65. With the major Japanese pen brands in the US we always pay higher prices.
      We will see how the revised Endless Creator preforms as an alternative at $50 but I am quite happy with my Curidas and have had no problems with it thus far.
      An Ink Guy did a test were he kept the Curidas inked and unused for 6 Months and it wrote right away. That's pretty good performance. th-cam.com/video/pZKc2WP3wCs/w-d-xo.html
