Actually, I think it makes more sense that Light Furies are just subspecies of the Night Fury. Maybe back then, when Night Furies are still abundant, some of them migrated into the Hidden World where they evolved and adapted to their environment, hence becoming Light Furies
Nice theory,but if we think,on httyd homecoming,we see night lights,two males and one female,but they are white with black spots and black with white spots,so if they are like that,the females were completely white,and the males where completely black🙃
they are a different species, so no the night fury and light fury are similar, but not similar enough to be called the "same species" the light fury has smoother scales, shorter nubs, and a smoother body with a more round tail. unless every night/light fury with excess melanin also looked more like a nightfury, that would not be two lightfuries mating, itd be two night furies. so, thats impossible. as an example, you cant get two lions to mate and expect a tiger. even though theyre similar, theyre not the same species.

Also, as shown in the video, there are other Light Furies that live in the Hidden World. I think that the night fury is a species of its own, just like the light fury, for example there are also different species of bats, but they all belong to one family. You can also see that the nightshade is built a bit differently, so I think the female of the nightfury s might be smaller than the male, same with the lightfury. But a nice theory with the melanin, but mine sounds more convincing to me because the children are also mixed ^^
