- This week on HorseCenter Brian Zipse and Matt Shifman ramp up their Breeders' Cup coverage by offering their top picks and top long shots for each of the 14 races at Del Mar. Highlights include Fierceness taking on top internationals in the Breeders' Cup Classic, and Thorpedo Anna against older for the first time in the Breeders' Cup Distaff.

Outstanding choice for your longshot @BrianZipse choosing Illinois for the BC Turf. Never off the board in 9 career starts to date (9-3-4-2), and the distance as you said a non-issue with his having won the G2 Queen's Vase over 14F at Royal-Ascot on good to firm & G2 Prix Chaudenay over 15F at Longchamp on soft ground. Just missed winning the G1 English St Leger over 14-1/2F at Doncaster, beaten a neck by his still unbeaten to date (4 for 4) stablemate Jan Brueghel, who I believe runs next in the G1 Melbourne Cup. Illinois has also performed well over 12F this season, finishing 2nd behind Prix Niel winner & Arc 4th Sosie in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris and he ran a blinder in the G2 Great Voltigeur Stakes over 12F at York when beaten once again by a stablemate by a neck in Irish Derby winner & Arc 3rd, Los Angeles.

Love you guys But I gotta say what happened to Overated inconsistent Jekyll and Hyde horse Fierceness My horse did it Sierra Leone I knew it He's consistent always hits the board no bad races Fierceness can't say that Terrible bad races no excuses 7th place 8th place 15th place 9th place N his 2 in a row just barely won isn't that impressive He's not that good average at best He's lucky he got 2nd place Forever young was charging little longer But Sierra Leone Was to me the horse to beat How any handicapper missed that makes no sense He was sitting on a huge race Pace was definitely his advantage Great ride Prat Chad Brown knows how to get a horse ready he swallowed Fierceness up n I couldn't be more happier I dislike Fierceness never liked him How can anyone bet or root for a horse like that Up n down up n down up n down Jekyll and Hyde I guess he was Hyde It's time for the barn for him I'm sick of hearing his name How great this horse is I never seen it One good race against weak competition He ducked all big races where was he Preakness Belmont Stakes Anyway Sierra Leone definitely should be top 3 year old by far Not one bad race Lost Derby by a nose and Travers by a head Always in the money A true fighter He gives his all every race Great horse 6 to 1 odds Christmas gift for me 1000 to win on him. Do the math that's how Sure I felt .I hope if you didn't play him you learned a lesson don't let one race make you think a horse is that great you gotta look at the bad races which all these Fierceness fans don't look at So all they think is oh he finally won 2 in a row Then the media keeps pushing this Overated horse I don't listen to that I ignore that All I know is Sierra Leone came close every race the ones he lost he was right there every time N he spots every horse like 7 or more lengths because of his closing style that's impressive Just watch replay of Classic n just keep your eyes on him don't look at any other horse just look at Sierra Leone from gate to finish Wow they way he mowed every horse down from nearly Dead last was incredible N then blowing by the Supposedily great horse Fierceness like he was standing still ITS great N he will be back Next year I'm very happy about that. I been playing n studying horses kinda long time I'm 60 years old Been in the game over 40 years it started in the family Grandpop Rest his soul .My Dad whose 89 years old n still doing well My late Uncle Charlie I learned from all 3 But something my Grandpop always said Listen Stay away from that kind of horse That's inconsistent Win one lose win one lose he means a split personality horse zig zag patterns That's definitely Fierceness so that stuck with me n I thought of him when he ran bad races n the connections always making excuses He needs more rest Why doesn't other horses make excuses like him He reminds me of another horse with the same connections Forte he was similar I didn't like him either Them kind of horse s your flipping a coin N to boot the public makes them the favorite.I was shocked that he was the favorite City of Troy I thought was but I heard The owner the last min dropped millions on him so he would be the favorite. Don't get me wrong there was other good horses in the race Next Arthurs Ride City of Troy Forever young Tapit trice Ther the ones I liked besides Sierra Leone.Im a Jersey guy so I play Ny N local tracks besides A few Kentucky Florida wherever big stake races are.Keep up the good job guys Take care Anthony from NJ

Ok thku matt. Horse i want u to look at since u picked sharyar as long shot is rousham park two races back in the pouring rain. Why would the owner bring two when sharyar more accomplished and was in b.c.turf last year. Interresting. Watch replay 2 back. Question is will they be coupled same owner i hope not . Thks

My the Turf looks a poor quality race this year. None of the top Europeans travelling over. Maybe because the Arc and Champion Stakes horses were run on bad ground and a long season ? In hindsight Balding missed a trick and not aimed Kalpana here given how she sluiced in at Ascot.
