  • Did you know that genuine leather products may be full of filler material like cardboard?
That’s what TH-camr Ghib Ojisan discovers as he delves into the leather crafting scene in Singapore, with Addynna Azlinor, founder of leather goods studio, Forest Child. She shows him the differences between the fine, handcrafted works of local leathersmiths, versus mass produced and off-the-shelf leather goods
Ghib’s journey takes him to one of three reptile leather tanneries in Singapore, where he learns that our tiny island is a major player in the crocodile skin industry, supplying to some of the world’s biggest luxury brands. Finally, as Ghib tries his hand at making his own leather cardholder, he comes to genuinely appreciate the dedication and artistry of leather crafters here in the Lion City.

This video is also not possible without the help of Kult Bespoke, the studio itself which was not credited. Like this comment so the studio at least have some recognition.

@Ashton Law, Cool! Which segments feature Kult Bespoke? They're acknowledged right at the end of the video.

@@rubricsuxi Hi RS. Sure, alittle here and there. At 0:29, 1:59-2:06, 18:57-21:35. It’s probably hard to tell as I realised some of the other studios were in there and the location may look alike.

The way that is shown, the history behind an the clear message of this episode was one of the best " mini-documentaries" that I never seen before!!!
Perfect and very eye-opening to locals and also to strangers.

I used to go to a croc leather store with my mom back in the 70's in Singapore. They had huge outdoor croc concrete pits with hundreds of crocodiles. It as so impressive. They you would go inside the store and it was luxurious inside the showroom. They had shoes.handbags, belts, luggage, watches, and boots. What was the name of the three croc leather tanners in Singapore? Which one is the largest?

As a local leathercrafter myself for about 5 years now, i do feel that Singapore is a great place for anyone to pick up leathercrafting. There is a good number of quality crafters here, and you do get good access to various leather and tool suppliers here as well !

As someone who grew up making leather goods with my dad, I know what real leather is. People do not want to believe that they are paying for the name when they are buying fancy expensive leather goods.

The same craze for home made crafts including leather is happening in Msia as well. The younger gen somehow understand that with the internet, anything is possible when there’s ingenuity in their products.
