Maaaaan I have no idea whether or not this is THE funkiest jam between Flea and Chad but damn it is funky as hell. It was so cool to be able to just focus in on the drums and bass only for this tune. You should do more arrangements like this, man. it was super cool. Killing it on the drums as usual. 🔥🔥🔥
thanks Dani! For some reason I was suddenly just caught by Flea's funk and it brought a lot out of me. Luckily I was ready to record! I've been more experimental with practicing lately and playing along to the bass only is just one of many ways I now sharpen my listening and playing :) And TH-cam's algorithm picked up this video, that's pretty fun too :)
Oh yes this bass line is so groovy! I don't know much about drums but I DO like them and your playing is spot on. I notice that there is a special off-beat or syncopated snare beat which is awesome. It's the second hit on the snare in each bar.
thanks Timon! I keep wondering how Chad comes up with these intricate drum parts to Flea's bass lines, somehow Chad always manages to be original and detailed yet simplistic. I can't get enough of studying him and replicating his grooves such as in this video :)

Thanks man! It's so much fun, I started listening to the bass master tracks more a while ago, to prepare for a gig. It's totally different way to practice songs playing along with them, and sharpens my listening and timing skills.

Yes I remember seeing RHCP open for PJ about 20 years ago and this song stood out, when John comes in just blazing in front of his Marshall stacks.. sounded like a guitar god rocket erupting, unreal.
Awesome memory, do you remember which year or show exactly? I wish I had seen RHCP play If You Have To Ask at one of the shows I went to this tour, but I really can't complain :)

Yeah the show I was talking about was early 2000s at Key Arena Seattle - they didn't say RHCP was opening, so we got there late and only saw 3 songs!! Still great though. Just saw Polyphia this past weekend in Boise, they were sick.
@@DesignRhythm 2000, times were different back then. Really awesome you accidentally witnessed a part of their show. I was lucky to attend 3 shows here in Europe this year. First Nijmegen in the Netherlands, then 2 shows in Paris 2 nights in a row. They were some of the best experiences of my life, just incredibly good experiences, especially Paris I will remember forever.
