Anyone who is questioning how rice cakes tastes, rice cakes taste without the sauce (I’m describing the texture) it feels like chewy rice. The spice sauce is kinda sweet but the good type of one with perfect spice for it.
So if I don't add anything to the rice cakes and just eat it, will it taste like rice?

This video started my love affair with the humble Korean Rice Cake! I’ve experimented and now cook the rice cakes in a mix of sugar, vanilla and water. I still melt the cheese on top and it’s a very unique dessert, our children LOVE it! Thanks SAS 💖

Have you ever had sweet sticky rice? If so, imagine takibg a handful, pounding it into a pancake then roll it up. It's super chewy! It really has no taste so what ever sauce you have it in will give it that flavor.

boil korean rice cakes in water until they are soft and then remove most of the water and leave a bit behind then add your premade tteokbokki sauce and other ingredients (like onions or fishcake or whatever) and wait until it thickens then done :). If you dont have premade tteokkbokki sauce then simply buy the korea red pepper paste the one that comes in a small tub and some korean chilli flakes, add those in and also a suitable amount of sugar for the sauce, done.
