Thanks for sharing! I have a Gucci bag very similar to yours with deep scratches on the leather strap. Can you recommend a polish and color to cover them up?
Ooh, a rehab-esque video! Caveat: I don't have any vintage Gucci pieces so my only experience has been in conditioning vintage Coach cow leather. I've been a huge fan of Leather CPR for my vintage Coach bags, but I've never had a pigskin bag so I've no idea how it would work on that material. However, I have tried Blackrock on a few of the vintage Coach bags and from my experience with using it on cow leather, a little goes a LONG way. The amount you were using on the pigskin is probably the same amount I would have used on a full vintage Coach bag, but I use my bare hands with the conditioner on the bags so that may be the difference. My two cents!
I've had the same tackiness issue and it's honestly turned me off of using Blackrock except on my black and dark brown bags. In my experience it gets super tacky on the bag --- and stays tacky -- unless I wipe the majority of it off after initial application (even if I wait several days) and really buff at it over the next few days. However, after all that, it does leave the leather wonderfully smooth and soft. I just feel like I have to really work so hard with the Blackrock with the physical buffing that I end up rarely using it for that reason. Maybe when I get back into rehabbing my bags I'll feel differently, or I'll stumble upon the proper usage one of these days. The folks in the Vintage Coach community on TPF have been super helpful on that front. With regards to the piping in the future, you could try blue painters tape along where the piping meets the coated canvas to avoid the possibility of residue. Sorry to see that about the strap, though, that's a difficult fix and I too would be hesitant about going to a cobbler unless they've had experience working specifically with vintage Gucci pigskin leather bags.
You can always you timberland leather conditioner I found works great for Gucci’s leather! You want something that’s going to work long term not something watered down
I believe pigskin is shinier and cheaper. I don't think all vintage Gucci bags are pigskin, but many are! You might try asking this question on the purseforum. The women there are very knowledgeable!

I haven't ever tried a polish or color unfortunately!
You can take your pieces to a Gucci store if you're local to one and they can do amazing repairs to pieces.

After a couple days of drying, the bag is no longer tacky! So crisis averted for me! But thank you for your thoughts! I should try Leather CPR.
