Traditional Garifuna Paranda LIVE with Paula Castillo & Sofia Blanco

Real traditional Garifuna Paranda with Garifuna culture icons singers Paula Castillo and Sofia Blanco; this video was recorded live on January 1st, 2022; in Brooklyn NY, it’s a custom in the Garifuna culture to celebrate the holidays with Paranda music, in our communities the paranderos and drummers would walk looking for whoever in the community wants a paranda perform for them in exchange they will give them food or drinks and sometimes money (we call that in Garifuna) ASEDEREHANI. We revived part of this beautiful custom with the singers Paula and Sofia (original paranderas) they were accompanied by the group Lanigu Nati Goyo (a culture Garifuna group from Labuga Guatemala) they are kids and grandkids of Sofia Blanco and her late husband Goyo Baltazar.
