  • Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan does not think Saudi Arabia is paying athletes massive amounts of money to “sportswash” the country’s regime or improve its worldview on human rights.
Referencing Cristiano Ronaldo’s deal to join Al Nassr, Mr Morgan said Saudi Arabia wants to grow football in the country.
“I think it's simply they want to make Saudi and other countries in the Middle East top of the world for putting on sport,” Mr Morgan said.

Sure, the Saudi regime is strictly authoritarian and undemocratic, but like so many similar regimes, it has offered stability and enormous benefits to their respective nationals. Sometimes, just sometimes, it pays to turn a blind eye!...

All due respect Piers, I don't think you have a very good understanding about what goes on in countries like Saudi with anyone who speaks out against the ruling family. David has far more insight into the human rights abuses in Saudi and the UAE for example.
