No worries about jinxing these authors -- 'twould be an honor for them to be mentioned by you, I think. I love Ann Patchett, but alas must agree with your patron who said Tom Lake isn't one of Patchett's better books. And agree with your mum -- books about grief are right up my alley, too.

I need to read Let Us Descend, regardless of if it’s on the list or not, as I loved her writing in Sing Unburied Sing so much. Here’s to lots of lovely book discussion on Tuesday!

Second: “The first weapon I ever held was my mother’s hand.” I’m a sucker for a powerhouse sentence and that is one if ever I’ve heard one!!! Third: I love watching you both individually and together!
I bought her that jumper for Christmas! It’s gone down a treat. Hahaha. It’s a corking sentence from Ward. But that’s what she does. Delighted you like both our stuff. Thank you!!!
I just finished Tom Lake. I found it emotionally resonant and beautiful. I also didn't totally vibe with some of Patchett's earlier, much-celebrated books, but thumbs up for this one! I think you'll like it!
Oooh this is so interesting. It seems like maybe this is a different book for her as those who like her earlier stuff don’t love this and vice versa! How intriguing.
Thank you, Simon and Louise!🌷The only book I’ve read (actually listened to Meryl Streep’s superb performance) is Tom Lake and I think it would deserve to be on the list. It’s the only book by Ann Patchett I’ve read so far, but after hearing that The Dutch House is narrated by Tom Hanks (thanks, Simon!), I think I’ll try that one too. All books you picked sound great!
