    The more I listen to Mike Lynch, the more I wish we had a stable of politicians just like him. He exudes common sense, compassion for his fellow man & dignity from every single pore. If we had a government of people with his values, this country would be a utopia, instead of the shambles it is with the current corrupt government.

    Its amazing how rarely we hear the term "means of production" in modern politics, or at least it would be amazing if we werent in a class war.
    Edit. Yeah mate theyll love giving their stolen wealth back, also the only reason northern europe is even halfway decent is the fear of the workers revolution coming to their doors, so maybe the government need to be reminded of that.
    The owning class broke the contract that, we work, they pay us fairly.

    As a young thatcherite and knew nothing about politics except that my parents told me to aspire to the conservative ideology to be rich and demonise the any social democracy because they want to take your money through high taxation and give it to scrounges, my mind was forged for many years. Then Brexit happened and while it started out as neither left or right-leaning (although now co-opted by the extreme right), I got more interested in politics and looked under the veneer of the print media. Imagine if instead of a character like Arthur Scargill bun fighting with thatcher, there was this calm, erudite philosopher of social justice, I may well have got to the root of the truth so much sooner.

    Democratise the workplace so we the people become the owners of our own production, instead of a handful of billionaires.

    • @wolfnipplechips
      @wolfnipplechips 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The vast majority of the UK's business are small and medium sized - started by people willing to take a lot of risks.
      "Handful of billionaires" is a silly caricature.
      I've got nothing against cooperatives or something similar, but businesses don't emerge out of thin air. A hierarchy of some sort has to exist, and such cooperatives would have to exist in a regulated, but generally free market.
      A web design company doesn't just pop into existence. A plumbing firm doesn't just pop into existence. A pub doesn't just pop into existence. A mechanics doesn't just pop into existence.
      "people become the owners of our own production" - what does that even look like in 2022? 1917 was a long time ago. We're not all serfs in the fields anymore.
      I employ three people. I invested my time, money and I'm liable for everything. The building is in my name, the insurance is in my name, I bring the customers in, the initial investment was all mine, I purchased all of the computers and equipment - why should my employees own my business, because you say so?
      This 1917-esque argument is a caricature. It's the sort of stuff I used to say when I was 17, smoking reefers.
