I remember seeing him when they were playing 2-3k capacity venues and he was in the crowd for at least 3 songs. He even climbed up to the balcony to join the people up there. I have only been to a handful of shows where there was that much crowd interaction.

Than rob, sean & jay opened & crawled out of the coffins. They had dirt rolling off of them. When the music started & sean started head banging dust just started rolling everywhere. I've seen a lot of concerts over the years. That is by far the coolest intro I've ever seen. If you were lucky enough to see them with the graveyard stage set you know what I'm talking about. Now I hear what’s missing (in addition to Rob’s breath). In the studio version, that synth part at the beginning plays throughout the verses. But for this live version, they either took it out because it was too hard to keep time with, or it got completely drowned out in the mix. And that leaves the mostly-one-note bass line to carry the verses.
I remember looking forward to this performance as a 14 year-old, because White Zombie were pretty much the only metal band MTV would play during the daytime. For what it’s worth, I saw them live twice back in the day, and they were awesome both times.

@@MrParkerman6 there are foot pedals that can play samples, and their stage crew could also have set it up to play at a certain time, so they certainly COULD have used if, just like they got it to play during the intro. • @kmexperience

It turns out that White Zombie WAS able to include that synth part during the verses when they played live (and that Rob was able to forget the lyrics): th-cam.com/video/JWM3BGQAKgQ/w-d-xo.html
So during this MTV performance, the synth either got completely drowned out in the mix, or there was some other equipment issue. Or maybe someone forgot to bring something … like an invisible keyboardist (it happens to the best of us) 😎

I think any future airings had things edited to take the out-of-sync backing track removed. And RZ being winded of course. My first show on the road as a musician was a gigantic reality kick in the face when it came to realizing how much hard work had to be done by me in order to be in shape to play a bigger stage,run/jump/dance around and do backing vocals...let alone take lead vocals.

Absolutely!! I used to be very active while singing regularly but I cannot do that anymore. It’s no joke. I’d have to start a workout program to get ready for a big show now. It’s just not a skill you keep unless you do it frequently.

Zombie is just one of those acts that relies on a considerable amount of post production to sound great. The arrangement, complexity, and sonic depth on his albums is second to none. But, just like hip-hop, you never actually want to see it live.

i can't imagine the hip hop acts you've seen, like 90 percent of the hip hop shows I've been to everyone performing was on point and delivered well.

I saw him last night and it sounded way better than this and it is 28 years later. Go figure. He has had a lot of time to practice.

This was kinda bad. Like someone trying to be Rob Zombie at a talent show.

The first compact disc I ever bought with my own money as a 14 year old. Still in my top 5.

We were just watching an old VHS of this Video Music Award show a few months back, and it was like all four of them were listening to an in-ear track that started at a different time.

Eyehategod was killer back then. They still kill it but mikes vocals sound less.. uh.. how do i put it, pained? Yeah they sound less gross, still a killer live band though.
