Pretty amazing that he painted that entire thing with nothing but a 2-inch brush and a palette knife. Just shows that you don't need a lot of fancy tools to make great art.
I have to say that's what drew me to Bill as well. What he says at the canvas is as important as what he puts on it. Not just a great master artist, a great human being! Thanks for noticing!
Bob Ross mentioned that Bill Alexander was his mentor and taught him the wet on wet technique, use of large brushes, and how to use the "almighty knife."
@@morgancalvi6675 man bob was never like that.WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP CHOOSING BOB OVER BILL OR BILL OVER BOB.sorry im very enraged that u said he died before bill.Like WT*.dewd why just why JUST FING WHY!!!!
I found bob ross 20 years ago and that motivated me to paint . Shortly after I found Bill Alexander. Thanks to them I am now a professional land scaping artist. Thank you Bill and Bob.
My father LOVED watching Bill paint. Dad was a WWII vet and served in Europe. He was at Normandy +21 days and won a bronze star during the Bulge with the Third Armored Division. Dad had no use for Nazis but loved the German people in general. I'm surprised dad didn't marry a German girl. But anyway I think Bill's nationality had at least something to do my father's appreciation of this program.
+ohger1 I became a student of WWII after, of all things, playing a video game (Call of Duty - World at War). During the credits there was a statement that 60,000,000 people died during WWII. I just couldn't wrap my head around that idea and so began reading everything I could get my hands on. What the Nazis, and their allies, perpetrated on the world was disastrous as much, if not more, to their own people as the rest of the world. When you read the story of Sophie Scholl and realize that there were Germans who tried to resist, at great personal peril, you realize the world is not black and white as some would have us believe -- there are myriad shades of gray. That a German, whose life was uprooted and changed as much as Bill's was, could start over and not only rebuild his life, but gain celebrity and, thereby, help change the lives of millions of people, is inspiring beyond words. Bill was not only a role model for his own countrymen but for all of us. I respect, particularly, folks like your father, who was cast into the cauldron of war yet was able to see the world clearly. God bless him...and Bill!
My grandfather also received a bronze star with valor for being the first Field Surgeon at Normandy and he also was at the bulge. I couldn't possibly imagine the horrific after effects of the battles he saw.
What an absolute talent Bill is. I am very new at painting, 6 weeks now. Cannot draw either, lol, but I didn't want to leave this world without learning to paint. I am addicted, it is such good therapy. I try to remember "their are no mistakes", although I think I am often the exception to that rule, lol. Happy painting everyone, and thanks so much Bill, you are such a joy to watch and learn from the best.
To think it is amazing, time has just blown past....I was watching him on PBS almost 35 years ago. He's still great. His love and enthusiasm for his art will live forever. As it endures he continues to draw more people to paint. The 'powerful' energy he so often talked about putting in the painting and the way he shared his with us made, rather makes..us all better :)
It seems to me that Bill was more frenetic, kinetic, and faster in his painting, while Bob was somewhat more methodical, subdued, and deliberate. Reflecting their personalities entirely.
Beautiful! Always loved Bill's work and technique. Thanks for posting these videos. So absolutely relaxing, especially in today's upside-down world. Thank you.
Bob Ross: the guy you relax with and let go of you troubles with. Bill Alexander: the guy you have a few beers with who makes you laugh like hell, but still teaches you life lessons.
i dearly love watching him even now. He is full of such love, and such joy, I cant wait for my art supplies to come so I can paint in this style. His love of art and painting is immense, and his joy for God, and love of him is beyond all compare. God rest your soul Wilheim. You live on. And I hope in me and the generations yuo taught to paint, and be the creator next to God .
Bill was so down to earth. He slips in a few Zingers. People didn't take things the wrong way when these shows were made. No one got Offended . Bill was Awesome.

Hi everyone. I did do this painting. Way over my head in reality, but was an awesome challenge. The reflection is not exactly where it should be nor is it the appropriate size, lol. Looks great from a distance though, okay, far distance, lol. It is recognizable, and I am happy. Maybe if I learn to play an instrument I will become a better painter? I dance, does that count? Lol. Ready to do another one. Thanks Bill.
Huge Bob Ross fan right here but I have to admit that Bill (usually) produced the better, more painterly, work in a half hour. Its a shame that there aren't more one, even two hour examples of both of these great artists working.
Bill explains a bit about the theory of lighting, shading and reflections and the reasons why it is like that, which Bob seldom did. But both are great and I love to watch them
So Bob never said " don't kill your dark spots, their your most important friends " ?? I don't think you watched him very much. He always spoke about the importance of dark and light.
Bilingual pun: He could do paintings of southern Florida and call the series "Miami Weiss". (weiss is German for "white" -- it's pronounced "vice" in German)
Ich küsse Ihre Liebe Erinnerung, Herr Großvater! When I hear your almighty voice I am a little American German girl again in Minnesota in the 1970’s listening to a voice of the Fatherland and falling in love with art.

Interesting facts since his disciple Bob Ross has been a miltary sergeant too !! Seems soldiers need the calmness and flow of painting after retiring 😉
I wish I could see all of his secrets to painting all in one video. For example, using a painting knife to make a mountain is just perfect and I bet he has many more amazing secrets like that
Raise your hand if you wanna take a 2” brush and pull down those reflections and go across with one hair and a bunch of air? 😊 Beautiful painting though.

My thoughts: Overall, I prefer Bills mountains to Bobs mountains. Bills mountains have more detail, facets and variance compared to Bobs. Bill does not assume that every mountain is covered with snow on top. Bob seems to more. Though I will say that while he introduced the modern conception of 'Wet on Wet', at least to the states, his paintings are a bit dryer in terms of stroke smoothness than Bobs outside of skies. I also feel like his blacks are closer to tube black and less varied than Bobs are. Specifically with the trees. Also, with the trees, there are no light parts, unlike what Bob would typically do.
Hi Sir I really love your way of expressing yourself in the painting. You are so bold in imparting what you have. I love that ""Almighty"". I thank the lord for your gift in the field of art.
