    One of the first lever actions to employ the "Spitzer" bullets. And they never should have stopped making them, it is an easily fired rifle and it's absolutely accurate.

      I adore mine, 250-3000, a takedown that can cloverleaf- go figure! It became unprofitable according to Savage in 99, I’m grateful they let the king of lever’s go till it hit the 100 year anniversary however, that was kind. Hunt honest shoot straight

    I Treasure my 300 Savage. It is my saddle gun with Iron sights. My father give it to me when I was 10 yrs old in 1955!! I have harvested many Deer and a number of Elk, with it through the years!! It has been, and still is a very reliable rifle!! Thank You For your Input on a Great Rifle

    Another trip down memory lane indeed, I just had my Grandfather's early Model-99B Octagon barreled, in .25-35 Winchester out for it's annual cleaning/service. Still sports the original iron sights, no scope was ever drilled/tapped for it.

    My all time favorite hunting rifle. Chambered in .300 Savage, probably the best deer/bear/boar rifle ever conceived. And suitable for elk, moose as well. It is easy to carry in the brush, accurate at 200+ yards and easy to mount a scope (if one would so desire to hobble such a trim rifle)

    I picked up a Savage 1899 carbine in .30-30 last fall, slickest little deer rifle I've ever owned. It's faster, handier and quicker than any Model 1894 carbine I've ever had.

      You can load spitzers in your shell cases for that rotary magazine. Turn a 125 yard 30-30 into a 200 yard gun. So far ahead of it's time.

    I was given a model 99F (featherweight) for my 18th birthday. It's chambered in .308. It's accurate, especially since I put a Lyman #57 aperture sight on it, carries like a dream, and functions flawlessly. The recoil is a little stiff, but I'll go hungry before I part with it. I'm 62 now, and it's going to my younger brother one day.

    The Savage 99 I have given to my son is the one my 1st. wife's dad bought in the early 70's. It was a used gun when he bought it but it was the first deer rifle he ever owned. Before that, he had always used a shotgun. I inherited it when he passed away in 74. My present wife killed her first deer with it, as did my son. It's in great condition, both stock and bluing. It has only one drawback. It's in the .303 Savage caliber and that ammunition is not readily available. But that caliber beats a 30-30 and you get less recoil in the Savage 99.

    An amazing design. I often thought that the tilting bolt design in popular military semi-autos of the late 40's and the 50's came from this design. It is the same basic receiver from the 1899 model up to the new design detachable magazine model. I have 336 Marlins, 88 Winchesters and one '94 Winchester. None are as smooth as my '99 Savage rifles.

    My son was given one of these from his grandfathers collection after he passed away in .243. He’s still too young to shoot it, I cleaned and oiled it before putting it away to store it. I had no idea the design was so old. I would have thought it was a product of the 50’s or 60’s with savage trying to develop a new take on lever guns.

  • @jaybailleaux630
    @jaybailleaux630 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best lever action ever made. Reloaded ammo for a Savage 99 in 308 Winchester I hunted with years ago. The only thing I did not like about it was the balance but that is a personal thing and no fault of the rifle. I'm just a picky turd when it comes to rifles. Fit, ergonomics , and balance means as much to me as accuracy.

    • @oldgoat1890
      @oldgoat1890 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the balance, but the lever is too small overall. If you have big hands or gloves on, that second round down range can be quite a surprise.

    • @jaybailleaux630
      @jaybailleaux630 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oldgoat1890 my particular savage had a lighter weight barrel than some of the older Savages I've seen. I like a rifle slightly muzzle heavy for a steadier hold but slows down your swing a tad for a quick shot. A 7.5 lb rifle with a scope is what Iike the most. That can be tough to come by .
