Great video Elliot! Regarding the Blade Runner box set which i also own, any tips for getting those rating certificate stickers off without damaging? I just tried and wished I hadn't bothered, probably because they've been on so long! I should of done it when I bought it. Also, any idea if there are plans for anymore Stanley Kubrick 4K UK releases? I did Google it but couldn't find any information. Thanks!
Elliot Coen Absolutely! It was honestly almost distracting how beautiful it looked, I legitimately would pause and rewind a few scenes just to marvel at how good it looked. I purchased a 65” LG C9 earlier this year so I’ve been going back through and rewatching a bunch of my UHD discs and it’s wonderful.
Blade Runner 4k uhd is great but I would have hoped that it also include dolby vision hdr ’cause I think it always looks better than hdr10 (for ex. The Shining and Jaws).
sexy monkey I’m not sure if I understood your question right but the blu-ray (1080p) on 4k uhd set is the same as my Blade Runner blu-ray Final Cut that was released some years ago.
It's a very nice 4k blu ray disc, it's in my collection. I've only got 30 4k blu ray films, would have more if films like Terminator 2 didn't have shoddy dnr & ee transfers! Still ordered LOTR trilogy 4k boxset even though Peter Jackson used digital noise reduction and edge enhancement. I'll keep it until Warner Bros do a faithful transfer in a decade or so 😆
4H UHD on an OLED, stunning! The REAL BR advantage is the SOUND through a full on ATMOS compatible 9-11 channel receiver (Marantz), Martin-Logan or Bowers&Wilkens with at least 4 ceiling speakers. Almost like the theater.
I have a 75" QLED and Marantz atmos system, when we do movie night we always "pop in a disc." Streaming is getting better but it is nothing compared to the visual and audio combined. There is zero chance of the disc getting interrupted, bogged down or canceled mid-movie. The audio is also much fuller and richer. Streaming atmos for the same movie listens brighter with an emphasis on the "ts" and "Ss". I will always buy my movies on disk.
@@randallbrown4540 dude I am already waiting to get some this November. I just got a 4k tv last year and got a 4k player this year. I have been getting lots of blurays on black friday for around 5 bucks and this year I will stack up on 4k's and I can see myself spending hundreds this year. But I mean its still worth it because they are like 75% for some of them on black friday and you cant find those deals any other time of the year.

I've been collecting 4K blu-rays for a couple years and have around 100 so far (including your top 5 - The Deer Hunter just came out in the states) and just recently got into the Criterion Collection which is what led me to your channel. Glad to see you showing some love to 4K as well! Here's my top 5: 1. Blade Runner 2049 2. Dunkirk 3. Apocalypse Now 4. Parasite 5. The Shining So many good ones left out though that look amazing in 4K! The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, Interstellar, Alien, 1917 and every movie you mentioned!
I remember watching Bladerunner for the first time on my computer. Thought about how good the colors and cinematography were and thought about seeing it on a better tv. Bought an OLED tv. Bladerunner is the best thing to see in 4k guaranteed.

Truly well deserved, man *applause* I love the face that Clint Eastwood is making on the cover of UNFORGIVEN lol That movie brings back so many great memories for me. It's one of my Dad's favourite movies and I remember watching it with him all the time when I was a kid. I didn't know it had come out on 4K, though. Thanks for recommending it - I'll have to add it to my wish list now and maybe watch it with Pops again sometime soon :) Fun fact about me and The Matrix: I dressed up as Trinity for Halloween once when I was a teenager. I freaking LOVE her. When you spoke about there being noise and grain in movies originally recorded on film, I likened that to vinyl. When I hear people complaining about pops and static when they're listening to an album on vinyl, I'm always like "dude that's the whole point and magic of vinyl!!" Pops and dips in sound are what you want.

You have inspired me to purchase and collect a few Blu rays and uhd’s. Recently I have bought Paths of Glory and A Fistful Of Dynamite on Masters Of Cinema. Also bought Jaws, The Wizard Of Oz, Superman, First Blood on 4K. I bought a Projector yesterday to watch this stuff on and it has blown me away, best audio/visual experience I have ever had!

Blade Runner is my all time favorite movie! I have that and 2049 on 4K. I have the same BR set you have cause it was cheaper at the time than the US set. Lol I just picked up Parasite in 4K and it looks gorgeous. But I’ll still get the Criterion someday for the supplements. Cheers!
Love the video. I subscribed cause you said The Matrix was one of your favorite films. I went to the movies for the first time as a teenager to see this movie after a friend recommended me to. I didn't even see a trailer. So, I was WOWed by it from the jump. Became one of my favorite movies of all time too.
It's great to see some older films getting the love they deserve and being cleaned up for new audiences to watch and enjoy. Rewatching Blade Runner, Jaws, The Shinning, Unforgiven, Die Hard, etc. in 4k has been great. Just waiting for Michael Mann and David Fincher Films to hopefully come out in UHD and I'll be happy! And Almost all of Terry Gilliam's films as well!

The Italian release of the Midsommar UHD Is by far the best UHD physical release I’ve seen in terms of sharpness. It’s on average 80-110 mbps and it’s mind boggling. 1917 also is a stunning UHD.
Elliot Coen it will! A24 is releasing it in the states not only in 4K, but finally the extended cut will be presented physically. From what I’ve read the HDR and presentation will be the same, just with the additional 30 minutes (and English subtitles that were absent in the Italian release).

I hate covers with logos, ratings or reviews on it. Always better with a clean cover art and nothing else. USA Blu-Rays are usually pretty clean, plus all UHD discs are compatible worldwide so can shop from many other places to find the one you want
You‘ve got yourself a great collection :) I recently watched the 4k version of Parasite, i thought it was very pleasing. Grading was spot on Keep up the great work 💯🔥

Hey Tom. Thanks so much! It depends really on what price you can get it for. In all honesty, it might not be worth the money for the nice packaging. The movie itself is what counts, so the standard version would be a fine purchase!
Elliot, I love your posts. Stupid me did not know that Unforgiven was even available on 4K. Will get it immediately. Need to get Deer Hunter as well. Of course, I have 2001 and met Kubrick at the premier of Full Metal Jacket in London. He was so shy. Blade runner , I have a signed to me picture from Ridley Scott on my wall , from the picture. It has him and Harrison prepping for a shot. Great choices!

Great selection. 😀 I love those Studio Canal boxsets. I also have, Elephant Man, Don't Look Now and the four John Carpenter films. They are all fantastic releases. I'd also like to mention Zombie, Halloween, and Christine :-D Ohh and if you are a Suspiria fan, get the german 10 disc set. It has both the original and remake.
Dude, you may have a cyberpunk problem. I can recognize my own. Funny how three of your movies were basically a three part continuing saga of movies that influenced each other., with the only missing link being Ghost in The Shell. Perfection!

Hello, I just watched your video regarding the Matrix on 4K UHD. I'm right there with you. I went to the theater three times to watch this movie in 99' 00' here in the US. I have the collection on Blu-Ray from Christmas. However, I really wanted it on 4K too. I actually found one on eBay with the slipcover, $40 but it was worth it for the collection. Thank you for the review.
You are sharing incorrect information about The Matrix 4K UHD. The "green tint" was the revised version to match The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both with green tinting as well). The original theatrical release and home video release of The Matrix had the blue tint. The 4K UHD returns to the "blue tint" and not to the green tint as you have described in your video post.
Love your passion. My next purchase will be Jet Li's HERO. Visually stunning movie in the theaters. Cant wait to watch it on my new Qn85qt80 Samsung in all its glory.

Well, I don’t buy into the conspiracy theory - I’m just making the point that they are so similar, it’s hard for me to see Mateix as, “ahead of the curve,” if it came out second. Dark City did it first - & a LOT better ;)

4K has been around for some years now and I still think The Revenant is the best looking image i've seen. It's pretty much flawless. I high recommend it on 4K.
Agree, with you on "The Revenant" . It was one of the earliest batch of films released on the 4k format, but the picture is stunning. The wild, untamed landscape on the wide-screen definitely helped!
i own only a handful of 4k movies. those being Jigsaw, justice league, deadpool 2, blade runner 2049, underworld blood wars, & the Martian. all fantastic films and great quality!
I know, the packaging does look different, but I think the quality of the discs may be the same? I'd have to do a comparison one day. Thanks for watching :)
Grain is fine, it's when there's grain due to deterioration that annoys me. Watching Labyrinth in 4K was unbearable - felt like I was about to get a migraine due the amount of grain... Simply because the film hasn't been stored properly or restored.
Yeah, I bought the 4K of Labyrinth and I definitely notice a difference between the bad/deterioration grain in that release VS the natural, fine, beautiful grain of other 4K releases.

Great choices, Elliot! I agree with most of them but probably would swap out Unforgiven for Apocalypse Now, Don't Look Now, The Elephant Man or The Shining.
Can't disagree with any of your choices. But yes some people do have unfairly high expectations when it comes to older films on uhd. I even seen reviews on escape from new york that it was too dark. So stupid as 95 percent of that film is made at night time. Of course its going to be dark. Btw much same here i had 4k for almost two years. I also only have just over 20 now. Which is not exactly impressive. But also only bought ones so far that hold a special place for me... So far.

roky For sure. Dolby Vision is objectively better when it comes to color grading. Definitely would have been nice to have that.

For the Matrix 4K UHD, the original cinematographer was brought back to make sure the color was accurate.
Interstellar in 4K would be spectacular for sure. Specially the space/wormhole/ blackhole scenes would be a sight to see.

Blade Runner is my all time favorite movie! I have that and 2049 on 4K. I have the same BR set you have cause it was cheaper at the time than the US set. Lol I just picked up Parasite in 4K and it looks gorgeous. But I’ll still get the Criterion someday for the supplements. Cheers!

It's great to see some older films getting the love they deserve and being cleaned up for new audiences to watch and enjoy. Rewatching Blade Runner, Jaws, The Shinning, Unforgiven, Die Hard, etc. in 4k has been great. Just waiting for Michael Mann and David Fincher Films to hopefully come out in UHD and I'll be happy! And Almost all of Terry Gilliam's films as well!

@@obivanJR The bluray has this ultra-green color which is too much, but the bluray UHD version actually is one of the best HDR that’s out there.
Is this the Dolby vision version? I had to import it from US!
My favourite 4k Blu Ray is Blade Runner 2049. Another Masterpiece of Denis Villeneuve. It looks stunning beautiful and the 4k Disc is a must have

The Italian release of the Midsommar UHD Is by far the best UHD physical release I’ve seen in terms of sharpness. It’s on average 80-110 mbps and it’s mind boggling. 1917 also is a stunning UHD.
I wonder if the Midsommar UHD that is coming out in other areas will be as good as that Italian release. I imagine the film could look great on 4K.
Elliot Coen it will! A24 is releasing it in the states not only in 4K, but finally the extended cut will be presented physically. From what I’ve read the HDR and presentation will be the same, just with the additional 30 minutes (and English subtitles that were absent in the Italian release).

I hate covers with logos, ratings or reviews on it. Always better with a clean cover art and nothing else. USA Blu-Rays are usually pretty clean, plus all UHD discs are compatible worldwide so can shop from many other places to find the one you want

Hey Tom. Thanks so much! It depends really on what price you can get it for. In all honesty, it might not be worth the money for the nice packaging. The movie itself is what counts, so the standard version would be a fine purchase!

Of course, I have 2001 and met Kubrick at the premier of Full Metal Jacket in London. He was so shy. Blade runner , I have a signed to me picture from Ridley Scott on my wall , from the picture. It has him and Harrison prepping for a shot. Great choices!

Hello, I just watched your video regarding the Matrix on 4K UHD. I'm right there with you. I went to the theater three times to watch this movie in 99' 00' here in the US. I have the collection on Blu-Ray from Christmas. However, I really wanted it on 4K too. I actually found one on eBay with the slipcover, $40 but it was worth it for the collection. Thank you for the review.
I read that Nolan's colour timing was only for the theatrical re-release while the disc has the original colours.

You are sharing incorrect information about The Matrix 4K UHD. The "green tint" was the revised version to match The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions (both with green tinting as well). The original theatrical release and home video release of The Matrix had the blue tint. The 4K UHD returns to the "blue tint" and not to the green tint as you have described in your video post.
Love your passion. My next purchase will be Jet Li's HERO. Visually stunning movie in the theaters. Cant wait to watch it on my new Qn85qt80 Samsung in all its glory.

4K has been around for some years now and I still think The Revenant is the best looking image i've seen. It's pretty much flawless. I high recommend it on 4K.
Agree, with you on "The Revenant" . It was one of the earliest batch of films released on the 4k format, but the picture is stunning. The wild, untamed landscape on the wide-screen definitely helped!
i own only a handful of 4k movies. those being Jigsaw, justice league, deadpool 2, blade runner 2049, underworld blood wars, & the Martian. all fantastic films and great quality!
The Blade Runner and Deer Hunter version you are getting in England is significantly different than what is available in the US

Grain is fine, it's when there's grain due to deterioration that annoys me. Watching Labyrinth in 4K was unbearable - felt like I was about to get a migraine due the amount of grain... Simply because the film hasn't been stored properly or restored.
Yeah, I bought the 4K of Labyrinth and I definitely notice a difference between the bad/deterioration grain in that release VS the natural, fine, beautiful grain of other 4K releases.

Can't disagree with any of your choices. But yes some people do have unfairly high expectations when it comes to older films on uhd. I even seen reviews on escape from new york that it was too dark. So stupid as 95 percent of that film is made at night time. Of course its going to be dark. Btw much same here i had 4k for almost two years. I also only have just over 20 now. Which is not exactly impressive. But also only bought ones so far that hold a special place for me... So far.
Unforgiven is definitely one of my all time favorite films. And I love the 4K edition!
