good guy paul anderson. like one of the only youtubers (besides its okay to be smart) that does serious videos on Biological topics and not physics/astronomy. As a biology student, I have to thank you a lot.
Jay Freeman Jay Freeman yea, im not sure thats how it works though. The mechanism of damage seems highly improbable as corals are often exposed to much higher temperatures and even open air at low tide. Acidity may be playing a role but minute changes over long periods of time dont effect coral that much. I once moved a 5 gallon pale full of austrialian hard corals in 5 degree weather with no water. Talk about extreme! I didnt lose a single colony. Sorry For jumping in on this Corals are kind of what I do. All respect to the bozeman you helped me get through A and P 1!
is it true and if so how is it possible that carbon dioxide levels were at 2000+ ppm during the carboniferous period of the iceage? We are concerned that levels are currently rising above 400.
How does the temperature cause this bleaching to occur? I understand the corals expel the algae but not how the temperature causes that, he kind of jumped it. Can anyone shed light?
I'm wondering like... I think I read some stuff before, explaining that zoox utilizes caco3 instead of co2 when they are living in hard-corals. Is this info correct?
Hi Paul. Is it possible that you could do a video on cell cycle checkpoints and how CDKs and cyclins specifically interact at each checkpoint? It would be really helpful, this is my one vulnerable spot on the multiple choice portion of AP Biology exams. Thank you for all your videos, they've helped me a lot so far this year in AP Biology.
You are speaking of heretical subjects The planet is going to warm and we are going to die die die. Any deviation from this proscribed and mandated doctrine will have you branded a inbreed ignorant conservative.
Hi, I just watch both parts of this topic, so just for clarity the ocean is increasing in acidity and also in temperature because of carbon dioxide entering the ocean and thus, causing corals to bleach ?
With water temperatures rising, will other zones that were previously too cold for coral species soon become hospitable? And if so, have those potential zones been identified?
I'm going to be working on anatomy & physiology videos for the next month. I also have a few education videos that I would like to create. Thanks for asking.
I live on the big island of Hawaii. I scuba dive here. I've seen 75% of the coral in the area I frequent bleached or dead. Very little fish life as well.
These videos are all fine and good, however, most people won't care about the negative impacts unless you can at least briefly explain how it will affect them directly. Nonetheless, these are great videos, and I love watching them.
Im from Austria and try to publicise this problem as much as possible. Its the most evident thing we have to prove we have a problem. But our government denies it. Its all about jobs and cash.I wish they could find a way of burning coal with zero emissions. You speak to most people and they think its a myth but it is a fact and its amazing how we humans can manipulate the truth. Its like arguing with a cardiologist about your own heart condition and telling them they’re wrong and my heart will be fine. It wont be unless I listen to the person who dedicated their life to the research.Otherwise I will die.
So those corals have algae in there cells and in those there are chloroplasts which where organisms themself billions of years ago? That would mean there are three layers of organisms cooperating. in some way a symception
Are you suggesting that coral doesn't have a life cycle like all living things? Cause if you are, then you'd be wrong, every living thing on earth that's alive, will at some point also die, that includes Coral reefs
sir, can you please make an video, regarding "BitCoins, or virtual currency.".. it will be helpful for many Indian's , I'm following your all videos, it's very helpful

Really like these environemental science videos!
Crystal clear concept . One of the best ever video . Thank you
Thank you for actually using the two terms for the algae, I was confused on the difference.
And the break down helped me understand better.
Thanks paul you explained it way better then the recommend video that my teacher gave me
Nat Geo's Year's of Living Dangerously bring me here. Thank you for a better understanding of coral bleaching.

Could you do I video on the ocean conveyor belts slowing down because of increased freshwater? love your videos :D.

Higher temp = coral bleaching
Carbon absorbtion = Ocean acidification

Paul, what course (sunject) are you planning to upload more next year? thanks

If a coral is "bleached" the white color, is it possible for the coral to grow new cells and zozanthalee?
Coral are naturally white, they can recover if the temperature decreases before they die.
Why is it that corals are quite healthy in waters, both 10 degrees warmer than the GBR and 20 degrees colder?
🍎Thank You for making the videos, could you teach and make more videos on coral and ocean life?🥇
Thanks you so much for delivering lecture, from Pakistan.
Great Explanation!

Dylan T wow u have a nice home
can u do a video on how coral reef forms limestone
Ya can you do it : )

The relationship between the coral and algae remind me of how we got mitochondria
Right, this a great argument for the endosymbiontic theory
Great explanation, subscribed.
Sinds when is 40.C bad for the ocean the water was one above that and now is it a big mystery what will happen with sea life.

in some way a symception
the fact that we pollute our waters so much highly contributes to the deterioration. sunscreen, oil, chemicals, etc
Why do we need corals?
Thanks Sir !!
coral is means....
earth healty as well?
Thank you so much

May I know why are not they broken down , As they will provide plenty of Oxygen and H2O2 will form ?.
can you talk about how we could (should) get off this planet so we can relive the stress humans are causing to it?
I like learn about coral we must protect our neture ☺️☺️
criss cross methods please
This didn’t age well…… The reefs are back in shape….. And the oceans are absorbing CO2……
This is not true. Some reefs have rebounded somewhat, but the overall trend is still not good for the coral.
