Gorgeous watch! And if I were Walter, I'd consider myself blessed to get it back in this condition. If I were You, Stian, I probably would have declared this watch unfixable. Glad it wasn't.
Excellent job! It's a joy to see actual watchmaking being shown and demonstrating that the skill is in how to make a restricted situation like work out for the watch and the owner.
I sometimes look askance at the chosen watches when first seeing them 'on the table', so to speak. Once the piece is opened, however, I am always convinced! This piece, however, was Enchanting, and only became more so! Beautiful Work!
Really amazing work! This a prime example of what happens when restoring old things (watches, cars...) - sometimes things just don't go according to plan. That's when a real pro like yourself shines - finding practical solutions that fit within a tight set of constraints (budget, lack of parts, delays...).
Many others have already said it before I got a chance. But I wanted to thank you for taking the time and effort to save this lovely old watch. Most would have written this off as "not worth the time". Well done.
An enjoyable restoration to watch, and so relieved that you decided to edit out the midnight nakedness and chicken killing/blood-extraction from the final video. 🐸
Very good job I have many vintage watches like this left to me by my dad when he passed away . He was a watch repairman for around 50 years . I am trying to learn how to do this work , I love making old things back to life .
I have always enjoyed watching how skilled you are in your craft but this one was extraordinary. You made a silk purse from a sow’s ear. Walter is extremely fortunate to have had you working on that watch since I have no doubt many would have refused to touch it. Even if someone had tried they would likely have stopped when they found all the rust and the many additional problems.
Job well done! Allot of special work done on that watch. Like how old US watches used the term “Water Proof”, until people went swimming. Enjoying your Horology humor when fixing things. 😁
WOW again. That's just incredible work. I have no words to describe how much I admire this labour of love. Sometimes there's more than just arithmetics to attribute value to a job. Good job Sir!
What an amazing journey! Normally I’m not a big fan of refinished dials, but in this case the dial and subdials were ruined by the water ingress. So the end result is nothing short of spectacular. Please consider posting the contact information for the outfit that redid the dials. Their workmanship looks amazing, which is important because a poorly redone dial is worse than a ruined but untouched one.
Today, I was casually watching this video, full screen on my phone, while getting ready for work, and mostly, I could hear the cash register sound. It made me smile as the sounds mounted up. That was quite a few extra snippets of effort and expertise = expense. Nice video as always.
I'm a mechanic. Basket case repairs are always a slippery slope (the time needed and parts required seem to scale exponentially -- the more you fix, the more you find wrong). And the time spent fixing a basket case is a nice, double edged sword too (not only are you spending time you cannot possibly bill, but that is time you could have billed fixing something else). So why do it? Look at the watch at the end of this video; sometimes things are worth the loss. Good job and thanks for sharing the repair with us.
Amazing skills and great narration. Beautiful watch. I must check out your for sale vintage watches! I love my Oris BC, but always looking for something vintage! Nicely done, Stian, and Walter is lucky his watch was restored by you.
I like many others here I think follow or watch others that do these repairs to watches on TH-cam. From the time I discovered Stian and his channel I knew this guy was on another level. Unmatched abilities to tackle anything it seems when things or "snags" arise. I've said it before, I cannot believe this channel doesn't have many more subscribers than it does. With his Discord community and the ability to have him as a knowledge base for the hobbyist is unmatched here on TH-cam. This is why I only support this channel. Unbelievable job as always. You are the man and the TRUE professional. I am proud to be here as a supporter. Dave
This is one of my favourite JLCs, congrats for bringing it back to life. I am really impressed by the job done by your dial repaint, it looks very good. More often than not redone dials are visible, this one is a cracker !
What a beautiful transformstion of a beautiful old watch! You do outstanding work sir. A watch like that is far too nice for me to wear, but I do admire such a fine piece of machinery.
Amazing job. I’m blown away by the work you did to fix the second hand, making that tiny little tube. I like the way it turned out even with a few imperfections. Now it just looks like a beautiful old watch that runs well. Probably worth more than a few dollars now
This looks like one of your more challenging restorations. I think once you get into reprinting the dial, you may as well additive-weld the case to take out the scratches. I know that idea goes against most watch enthusiasts. I have an idea for a future episode. I would love to see a tear down and side-by-side comparison of a 2428-2, SW200, STP-1 and similar movements. What parts are shared? What can not be swapped?
I’m not a watchmaker, but love mechanical things. I so enjoy your videos. This one in particular. Could you polish the stains off the steel parts with a fine abrasive paper-rubbing the part on the paper on a glass plate? Looking forward to the next one.
Yes, you can do that, the issue is that you then also change the strength of the part, which might affect the proper function of them. Which is why I chose not to do so :)
I have some offset stakes in an old staking press and watching you remove the impulse jewel’s roller I believe that is what they may be able to be used for!
Sucha pretty watch and what a service you did to Walter and his father. so much to fix, learnt a lot of how to fix without breaking of what is left. Cheers!
Fantastic job. I am always impressed whenever you are able to use Hulk strength and not damage the watches you work on. That must take years to learn how to control your strength!
Absolutely Incredible ! Such a great job. I have a similar watch in perfect working condition and Now I look at it with new fond appreciation. Thank you for that. Sheer Determination. Wow. And the chicken comment !!!! ☠🐔
Stian, you had me with standing naked in front of the mirror with the chicken sacrifice! Sadly, blood sacrifices don't get you as far these days as they used to. What an ungodly ordeal. Jaeger-LeCoultre is a fine watch, but even so, it would only be worthwhile spending the actual money it would take to sympathetically restore this piece because it was Grampa's, Dad's and then YOUR watch. The level of expertice you displayed into diagnosing problems was stellar. But even more so, your abilities to affect repairs back to proper functioning shows why you are indeed the Maestro. To say nothing of the patience, time, parts sourcing(and fabrication) was a cautionary tale of old, complicated watch restoration. Dr. Stian, the surgery was a SMASHING SUCCESS!!❤❤ Congratulations, JOB, your patiece paid off, and your customer better buy you some excellent Cognac. Wonderful work! Best, Stephen
Really interesting to see your watch parts repairs and fabrications, as well as the strip down, service and rebuild. The finished watch was very smart indeed 👍
Beautiful old watch ! One thing I would say is that I like the lettering and numbering better black , although looking closely they were probably red when the watch was new . Great restoration !
At the Arnold Schwarzenegger School of Watch Making they love Snags in fact more the better they eat them at lunchtime to refuel for the afternoon hammer time session’s. What no trouble in paradise. A fantastic restoration Stain. Regards from New Zealand 🇳🇿. PS a snag downunder is slang for a sausage.
Stian, it's a privilege for us lesser mortals to see a Master Craftsman at work - thank you very much indeed! I was literally holding my breath as you riveted the seconds hand. I'm kind of glad you didn't show the turning of its post; I'm quite sure I would have developed hypoxia!
This the type of restoration I really enjoy watching. The dial looked amazing what sort of price does something like that coast? As always great result amazing stuff thanks for posting.
This was a restoration that is on the level of a resurrection! No comparison between old and revitalized. I know you don’t like re-dialling but in this instance it was the right call, given the plainness of the case and how revealing the choice of crystal is. Just lovely! 💕🇨🇦
Very nice work thats why you are the professional watchmaker ( the real thing) I thought I could do it then you made parts and the case restoration pushed me to the back of the bus! 🤩 Congrats SIR
Lovely job Stian! What a lovely pallet fork as well. Great job, so many snags and well done getting round them all. Loved the peening trick on that tooth! Looking forward to more like this, love all the snag fixing! Welcome back!
What a beauty. I got one JLC in my collection of watches left. It's an old tourbillon. Only a basic model, but it's more accurate than any of the automatic/perpetual watches for instance: Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Tag, etc. The only watches beating mechanical-automatics are quarts movements Like: Oysterquartz, Breitling Superquatrz etc. Your a watch expert; I'm sure u agree that the ETA or Valjoux 7751 is brilliant, but not as accurate as your 19000 or 17000 quarts movement. Kind regards, I like the vid.

This is a stunning restoration of a vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watch, completed with true artistry.
Thanks so much :)
That’s the most extensive watch repair I’ve seen from you. Beautiful work
