- This recording was from a recent session, one of those "one take wonders". Adam had mentioned he was interested in doing a version of it after hearing the Nirvana version recently. The guitar work is great and I really love the vocal. The footage used was just to get the mood of this somewhat frightening song.
Guitar and Vocals: Adam Mantovani
Drums: Andy Shaffer

This is by far my favorite cover of this classic song. I can't stop listening to it!
We're thrilled that you like it so much. Check out our channel for more fun recordings. A bunch of these people will be playing at our annual FarmFest event in Malverne, NY this Saturday (Aug 31, 2024)
I really love this song takes me back to my southern roots. Heard stories about Tennessee mountains were the sun hardly shines in the winter months. Just makes me think about how things were at one time. Yes history repeats itself. Love this song ❤
Thank you for those comments. We're very happy with how this song came out. We always have a great time making music together and this was just one of those really great sessions. Having a channel full of videos is the musical equivalent of a photo album documenting the fun we have all had together.
Live in Knoxville. Not really wrong about winter but I'd argue the mountains don't see much sun in the summer. Too much brush for the rays to penetrate thru. It's like a rainforest
Great voice, for this song, especially. Thanks for sharing it!
You should check out other songs on the channel featuring Adam Mantovani. You can find some of his original material here and on the major music services as well.
my favorite version so far. Perfect pace.
Kurt Cobain gave Leadbelly some love at the beginning of their unplugged MTV performance.
Kurt did an amazing job, especially at the very end. It felt like he was actually living that song, and it made me kind of sad.
“It seems to repeat itself in every generation.”
History does repeat itself and always will my brother. I don’t know you personally. My soul knows you.
😉
I have been trying to find out who made and where it came from thank you so much now I can rest easy
nice vibe
Thank you
Love it! There’s a lot of soul in here. Great feel.
Damn, that was good!
Thank you. We were in the studio and recorded it on a whim. We were so pleased with it we asked our videographer to throw something together.
/Alternative Lyrics/
Widow, widow, speech up your voice
Speech up how you laid-back dead night?

Down farther to underworld
Turning into cold stone in dark"

Widow, widow, why did you leave us?
"Since this journey drag me to depth
Thristle greens, thristle greens
Down farther to underworld
Turning into cold stone in dark"

Widow, widow, speech up your voice
Speech up how you laid-back dead night?
really nice
Ohhh i love this cover so much ❤❤ But isn’t the song Where did you sleep last night by Nirvana ?
The song is much older than Nirvana, written before they were born. They covered it and renamed it for some reason, but the original name is "In the Pines". Great song. We occasionally play it at shows.
leadbelly . it was titled 'Black Girl"
First time hearing this version. Nirvana's just hits different
We came at it closer to the original although we're fans of Nirvana's take. Pretty much anything we cover we look to come up with our own take otherwise what's the point.
@@HomebrewMusic I meant no disrespect. Apologies if it came out that way. You guys did an amazing job!
@@grimeypipes2765 No disrespect received, I got where you were coming from. I find some musicians who work really hard to sound like the original. That's fine for a cover band but we get a lot more joy out of finding new ways to present a song. Most of us have had the experience of preferring a particular cover of a song over the original.
Check out Long John Baldry's 1971 version
Cool version. I love how differently it represents in the hands of different artists. Getting a comment from the Audubon Society for the song "In the Pines" is also pretty cool. I'm both a birder and tree fan myself (Andy).

the best version , imho
Wow. This is a completely different Adam from the one flying stunt RC planes. Incredible !
Haha thanks Fred!
Nice version! I know I've heard that haunting tune somewhere. I just opened an old dusty Banker's Box last week dated 1967 that contained some of my pen and ink drawings when I was first discovering country Delta blues. I'm still not sure if it is of Huddie Ledbetter or Robert Johnson? Rock on guys! Marc from New York Harbor Channel.
Thanks for checking it out!
Leadbelly. It probably exsited before him.
Nice
SHEEEEUT!....
Good
Thank you. We thought it was pretty good too. As I write this, Adam is probably on stage in Virginia playing songs from a new album he is working on. Check out more of songs on this channel.

Эта песня и вправду про девочку, чью отца-железнодорожника убили, отпилив голову?
(Translation: Is this song really about a girl whose railroad father was killed by sawing off her head?) Этой песне более 150 лет, и было много версий. Это ее муж потерял голову в железнодорожной катастрофе. (This song is over 150 years old and there have been many versions. It was her husband who lost his head in a railroad accident.)
Thank you!
