Hi Dianne, it was fun watching you have so much fun with that. I’ve wondered how people achieved those kind of paintings. Now I can give it a try. Thank you for this. Julie 🥰
I definitely need to know how you stop your skilled knowledgeable brain from talking to you like you usually would. Love this demo, very valuable in many ways. Makes me want to try. I had to leave just when you started the light and shadow on the face, but I will definitely return to watch the end. You rock Dianne.
Candace, we can switch our attention. If I have chosen two colors randomly, but focus my attention only on the degrees of each value I see, I can use the values I recognize, but use that value of any color I have chosen. As long as my color choices are harmonious, it will work.
Q: why did you choose Transparent red oxide and not make a red orange. I can assume it was due to transparency. So for a seascape I would choose random colors and not use grays (compliments) sticking to values. Color defines values and temp. Sounds scary and fun😂
Hi Dianne, I found this so helpful, thank you so much . I recently started a painting for which I've used black&white reference photo. And decided to paint in bluish purplish and reds. I didnt know what I was doing and stumbled a couple of time until I got stuck 😅 I can see clearly now how to finish painting thanks to you l got better understanding. You are gem Dianne ❤Tash
@@IntheStudioArtInstruction I will. As it is I love to exaggerate colour. This is taking it beyond that. Funny thing is I kept wanting your cow to be shades of yellow.
This was interesting, and I appreciate it, because sometimes I see this kind of art for sale and am even assigned to make something along those lines. I have always chosen not to, but maybe it would be fun to try it. Thanks!
Thank you, this really inspired me. I’m going to give this a try- it looks fun! My question: where would you have used the red-orange if you had decided to do so? That’s what I kept waiting for…I’m thinking maybe the eyes and horns??
If I were to add red orange, it would most likely be for accent somewhere within the warm colors. But the choices are random, although it's a good idea to keep color harmony in mind while making them.
"You'll either love it or hate it or you won't care". 😅 Diane, you kill me.
😂
Have some fun with her!
this is just what I needed to hear today!!
work on values with arbitrary color. I love this practice.!
Thank you, Diane .👍😊💕
I have been asking this question to teachers for so long. This is the first answer I have gotten. Thank you so much.
My pleasure. Have fun with it.
I see this as a fun way to take a little break when my painting gets too serious or frustrating. And a reminder that painting is supposed to be fun😊
Absolutely!
Thank you Dianne, this is a great and fun lesson! An excellent way to learn how values work and a fabulous cow!
You are so welcome! Have fun with it!
It’s a Bull lol
Good explanation. I never grasped the how or why of arbitrary colour before. TY.
Give it a try. It's fun to do.
I remember learning this back in highschool. I liked your tutorial video very much. Thanks

Would you show us what other ways this could work?

It IS fun, Pam. We don't always have to be so serious about painting to learn how things work.
Seems like a fun way to do a value study.
It really is.
Very interesting! Thanks very much

very beautiful :)
