Mohg and falling beast were the ones I killed the fastest seriously never understood how someone couldn’t overcome their attack patterns but astel..took about ten tries lol
His first phase isn't that bad; and his health pool is small compared to the other bosses. Give him about 10k more health and he'd be near the top of the list.

Anyone remember pre-nerf Radahn on release week?... an absolute force to be reckoned with. Insane hit box and one-shotting great arrows that made you wanna throw your controller through the TV. Poor guy is a pushover now
And all that because everyone fights him extremely under leveled and can't understand he is a mid game boss. I fought pre nerf radahn at level 75 which is the level you are supposed to be and he was a lot more fair, fun and easier but everyone needs to be stubborn nowdays.
Literally ran circles around him and hit him with comet shard, he died in like 2 min...2nd playthrough I fought him melee and holy crap was that different experience! He destroyed me, alot!
Man, those 3 months when we all played the game at the same time as it came out were so magic and beautiful..together we shared every little detail,helped eachother. Simply,the souls game are the best community
That time was one of the best gaming experience in my life. Like you said It's much different when you actually played it and experienced it with everyone else at the same time. I feel like if you play it late then you lose a part of that experience.
@@jjjjashan I bought it when first came out but I don't have internet so I'm forced to play by myself. I kinda got bored and put it down for a couple months after getting to falling star beast. I went back to playing Sekiro to get all the endings (best Fromsoft game imo). Just now coming back to Elden Ring again.
Elden ring was my first from software game so I went straight to Margit severely under leveled. Didn't know the controls very well but was still determined to beat him. Took me around 4 hours of non stop trying until I finally got it done. That was such a great feeling of accomplishment that I had not felt from a game in a very long time.
That's why so many of us are drawn to the series. The game will let you both persist and persevere with little gear or go around and level up first. Both feel satisfying when you killed him because he can still be difficult even with a few levels. The game makes your choices and styles feel satisfying. There's skill involved, but the game wants you to succeed. It gives you the means to do it everywhere.
This my 1st from software too. I honestly roamed around and died everywhere else before i even knew how to follow along the story. I got to him pretty leveled up amd he was still pretty rough lol
Twin gargoyles at nokron were tough for me. Also from non bosses, the Crucible Knights and the Runebears gave me more hard time than most of the bosses you refered. Thats elden ring i guess
@@philjamprimateI swear that cave rune bear in Caelid is by far the hardest non boss in the game. Rune bears in general are the only enemy in the whole game I purposefully didn’t fight. Even crucible knights you can get super consistent on but those rune bears man I don’t know what it is about them, but they’re horrible.
I got stuck on the Fallingstar Beast in the Sellia Crystal Tunnel for so long that I eventually learned him well and beat him. Little did I know, I would have to fight the fully-grown one. But, beat him first try with all that practice. I always love that with some bosses, they seem almost impossible at first but with practice, they become easy.
Exactly, yesterday I rage over that guy in Crumbling Farum Azula after I finished up the Black Blade. Finished him up with my Giant Crusher (S scaling 980+ damage).
Completely with the sentiment that the Fire Giant is the start of a very long stretch of bosses that get more and more increasingly difficult until the very end. Theres a lot of them that just have attacks that just go on and on and you find yourself just standing or dodging moves waiting to attack in a tiny window.
I found the fire giant incredibly easy once you dodge the first wave attack, got him on my 3rd attempt, the wave was just killing me, I just got to his legs and started to hit him
@@Laccc I meant like he said in the video that the fire giant started the steep endgame bosses. I got to maliketh soon after and he hit me like a freight train. He’s trying first boss I couldn’t help but use summons on.
Don’t know if this is a dig at the end game bosses or not, but Malekith is the best boss in the game mechanics wise imo. Try and no hit him. If you get it (and you will), it’s the “purest” boss fight I’ve encountered in any Soulsbournekiro game. Seriously, whoever designed that boss fight is big brained af. First time I fought him I thought he was so broken and cheap…then I actually learned the fight and wow was I wrong.
Dunno how Maliketh doesn’t make the list. After experimenting with many builds over multiple playthrus, I can say that even while playing with the broken bleed builds he is extremely dangerous due to his damage and moveset. Which is not something you can say about most of the bosses, even Melania to a degree imo
Not gonna lie elden ring was my 1st game in dark Souls franchise and at start I was like I wasted money on the game but after I beat margit it was a amazing feeling and I was motivated to get more challenging bosses after 150 hours I finally completed the main story and still exploring the world
I got to Margit and realized I was in for an entire game of cheap BS and frustration where the reward doesn’t equal the grief, not even close. Margit with his offset telegraphed attacks and just nonstop block and dodging literally ruined that whole game for me. So much so that I’m not even sure I’m wrong about how cheap it is. Devs trolling me after giving them all that money is how I feel about it. Not opposed to hard games, but I am opposed to BS passed off as git güd…
@@Trigger200284 It's okey happened with me also, I will suggest you to not rush and explore the limbgrave area and upgrade your level and find better armour and a weapon to beat Margit. I am 100% sure after you beat him you can't stop playing the game.
the point of the game is to learn from your mistakes and improve. all the mechanics are intentionally designed down to the last detail. none of it is just "bullshit". don't go hollow, brave tarnished. rejoin the fight and try again.
Makes me miss pre-patch Radahn. He was honestly up there with Maliketh and Malenia, particularly because you can get to him quite underlevelled if you get the invite to the Festival through Ranni's questline. Also in what world is Maliketh not on this list? He's arguably the second hardest fight in the entire game.

Yes Maliketh second stage omg, I thought i was getting good until i reached him on my first playthrough. Was suck for a week and honestly the boss that gave me the hardest time out of them all.

The Elden Beast ended up being fairly easy. Easier to learn than Radagon, and easier to fight. Elden Beast is only difficult if you try to chase after him through the whole battle. If you play defensive, and wait till it does its big ring attack and you run away from where it's at when it spawns the ring. It will always come up out of the water right next to you and give you some free hits before starting an attack or running away (It usually runs away in my experience). By waiting for the rings, you can then focus on just dodging attacks which for the most part is pretty easy. Only challenging attack is when it swings the sword and throws out those blades of light at you.
Oh I legit just got enough health and other versions of defense so I can attack most of the time and now I realize I turned into a tank because I fought god
Radagon was sooo much worse for me. The staggered / fast attacks and some attacks lightning fast with minimal animated indication as to what he might be doing. Radagon alone took me about 20 tries to learn, but I killed the Elden Beast in 3 attempts. Just let it run away from me and spammed Radan's rain from the lion greatbow
@@lucasantolik9960 I use to lead raids in WoW a long time ago. Had to get good at explaining fights, and what to do when. Especially when the raid had members that required you to spell out exactly what they needed to do, only to stand in fire anyways. I've thought of trying to be a creator though, but I don't have the time or charisma.
The hardest boss for me was Black Blade Maliketh. I tried to do the whole game on my own. No spirits. But Maliketh was just a brick wall for me. I had to give in and get the mimic tear.
The whole kill-you-in-one-hit thing gets pretty bad late in the game, but Maliketh takes it to the next level. The problem I had is that in his second form he's never in the same place he was when you were just fighting him, so sometimes he'd kill me before I knew where he was.
@@rhysofsneezingdragon1758 you need good armor too and none of that Radagon's Scarseal. Worst talisman in mid to late game. Check out the link I've commented here. That's my 60 vigor 25 endurance str build.
It took me longer to defeat Malenia but honestly I hated the Radagon fight way more then Malenia. I was able to figure her out eventually. Radagon on the other hand has mixup attack patterns that make it nearly impossible... I'd fight her over him anyday.
I mean yeah she's fun to fight. She has low poise so you can stunlock her + she has really cool combos that feel so great to dodge. But freaking Elden beast is boss that just teleports all over the HUGE arena shooting from the distance... If we could use steed it would be WAY less frustrating.
I dont know if it’s because i used mimic tear. But only malenia gave me a bit of trouble. Where i had to try over 2 hours i guess. All the other bosses i defeated them on first try.
I love Malenia’s first phase, it’s very enjoyable to learn and counter and it’s fair. But absolutely hate her 2nd phase, it’s confusing to learn her attacks because her wings make it difficult to see. Elden Ring’s bosses demands incredible patience compared to other fromsoftware games because bosses almost never stop attacking and if you don’t want to trade attacks you’ll only be getting 2 hits in max after every 10-15 attacks you have to dodge. As someone who absolutely loved the Bloodborne and Sekiro gameplay, from a pure gameplay perspective I’m not sure I like Elden Ring because melee-only builds don’t work too well and it really encourages ranged attacks or using summons when it comes to many of the tough bosses. And summons make bosses so much easier there is almost no challenge at all.
Margit literally took me about 40 tries. With summoning ashes and the wizard. His timing threw me off every single time I finally beat him last night lol. And felt so damn good!
The first time I got to him he kicked my arse. Twice. I then went "sod this" and went exploring and when I finally remembered that I had to fight him he was a breeze and I owned him. (I killed him without him hitting me)
I'd argue you can deal with it 80-90% of the time if you catch the telegraph early enough but if you get caught in the wrong place positioning wise when she starts up this attack you are simply dead
I feel weird regarding Malenia: found out you can stop the Waterfowl Dance with an ice pot. And even if you can't runaway or stop her, you can easily block her first wave, dodge the second and literally stand still in the third. She has become more manageable.
Special Mention goes to The Red Wolf of Radagon. SPECIFICALLY: The one at the Moonlight Altar area. I swear that thing may be one of the most aggressive enemies with the smallest openings and biggest health pools in the game. I took the "boss" version of this beast (at Raya Lucaria) down in under 5 tries.
I'd argue that the one in the Consecrated Snowfield is _FAR_ worse, because that one you're fighting almost blind because of the low visibility from the blizzard around that whole area. Both times doing it so far have been the most deaths that I've had to a boss other than Malenia.
@@andrewefurhievwe6416 Yeah, if you head straight north towards the sending gate that will jump you across the chasm to the Minor Erdtree it's there with a pack of wolves. Absolutely _brutal._ I'm on Journey 3 now and I always make a point of exploring everywhere, but I'm still dreading that encounter, haha.
I feel like Maliketh, the black blade should have been on here, even as an honorable mention. Same with Commander Niall. Maliketh is Super aggressive like the falling star beast, and similarly is hard to keep track of. Commander Niall isn't as wild, but the two spirit knight guys he has make it frustrating AF.
Niall is also shockingly easily wrecked with just one bewitching branch on his minions. Don't even attack them. Just hit them with the branch, stand back and watch his own men kick the crap out of him
Nialls knights felt tedious, not necessarily hard. The walk also sucks relative to the rest of games walk, Niall himself is relatively easy to learn, it just takes to so much time to rematch him 1v1

@@tqvur6402 If you straight up melee he can be hard. But he has a lot of weaknesses, the most fun way I did (and quite fast) was with that bubble blowing horn (the long one). Also with magic he wasn't too hard. He is a bit like Midir, big health bar, so the fight can last a bit, so I suspect the more impatient ones are the ones finding him hard.
Margitt being hard as a boss is a good design because it makes you think: Hey, I don't have the level yet, I have to farm. And you end exploring the first area more carefully and discover you have to do a lot of things before going against him. It is very well done boss for people who comes from the more linear leves of the rest of souls.
I'm a bit of a souls veteran, and the bosses I struggled with most were the ones with staggered attack timing and varied attack chains. Some bosses, even on this list, were fairly predictable and you could read their moves pretty easily. Some of them were just hell. I think there is going to be a big difference between what bosses longtime souls players find hard and the ones people new to the series find hard, and I love that. This game is a challenge for new player, but also manages to challenge longtime veterans, and in the end of the day, we all get to have our asses kicked together, lol
I found that this list was good but found most of everything doable. Except Radahn and Mohg. As a mage, I didn't put THAT much in health. Basically had to be perfect as a glass cannon. Finally did it but sheesh. Found that malenia and the final boss was actually EASIER than those two bosses I mentioned. Finally got all the achievements. I thought I loved Bloodborne but elden ring for 200 hours of my time and is now my favorite soulsborne game.
@@lovelesswing458 I still find bloodborne to be my favourite, just walking through and feeling the atmosphere of yharnam and all the secrets behind the place and the connectivity of the world is just on another level. Lore is without a doubt the best for me

The second-tier boss fight of two crucible knights at Auriza Hero's Grave was a great one to rattle your wits. It made me wonder about the more challenging bosses that were yet to come...
That’s interesting, i beat margit on my 2nd try, its cool to see how different bosses effect different players…i took forever to beat Tree Sentinel, which some people beat right away 🤔🤷♂️
Just finished my first playthrough and beat all of these solo; boy were some of them hard and frustrating. Even so, I immediately started a ng+. What a great game!
Honestly we have to thank everyone at gameranx because they have been on the grind lately giving us content after content (Also that was the first time i ever seen the elden beast hit someone with that move super cool looking thank god i never even seen him do it in my fights with him)
My first time fighting margit I got him down to almost no health, would’ve only taken one more hit to beat him……but I got greedy and ran in to swing and got caught in one of his combos and he obliterated my health, didn’t even have a chance to heal
As vagabund it took me 6 hours at level 26 with weapon lv 3, but with samurai i did him at lv 11. But then he had like 10 HP, i had full health and 3 pots left and then i fell off the cliff on the side
Margit is a hard first boss because unlike the rest of the souls games being extremely linear, elden ring is a game about exploration. The devs of the game purposefully made Margit hard to incentivize players to kick back and go explore the world to gain exp, gear, meet certain characters, and obtain items for later in the game. The whole game is meant to be an experience and not a straight path.
Yeah. A french youtuber tried to beat Margit without going in the open world to farm on his first playthrough, he killed him in 7 hours in total. On my first playthrough I discovered the open world etc, and I killed him within 6 or 7 tries. There's a huge gap between a non leveled player and a leveled player who took the time to explore, especially on this boss
If only I knew that before clearing whole stormveil castle right away.. But what's bad about that is if you really explore everything some bosses get too easy, decreases the joy when you actually beat them. Morgott, took like 10 secs bitch didn't even got time to get phase 2, that was really disappointing..

My favorite fights are Mohg, Radagon and Elden Beast, Godskin Duo; The First Elden Lord, Malenia and Maliketh!!! I am on my way through the DLC, but as soon as I finish it, I will make my fourth run on it!!! It’s the best game ever and I freaking love how different you have to approach to it with every different built!!!
Not a boss, but the hardest fight for me in the entire Elden Ring game was the Bell Bearing Hunter 4 in Dragonbarrow. With melee, it took me so many hours to defeat him, many many many hours. You pretty much have to be perfect because of how hard he hits, and all of his attacks are on different timings, just an absolutely brutal fight. Dodging into him helps but you still have to be perfect
100% agree. The bell bearing hunters may be super easy to predict but their range is ridiculous. It's kind of like fighting a buffed up crucible knight that you're forced to be close to
I was doing a meleebuild for my first playthrough, and struggled with every Briar eventually besting them. Then I made a mage and all I did was blast them, cause they rarely run towards you. I was so mad... haha.
Malenia was such a beast. I cheesed through whole game as a spellcaster but she tore me a new one. Like 20 times. Finally broke down and respeced to a bloodloss build.
Don’t feel bad. My first time trying to take her on I used a Black Blade build and, after like 5 hours of dying, I caved and respeced to Rivers of Blood
It took me like 2 days to beat her with the starscourge swords because that's the only weapon I was using it's crazy hard to beat her without using a bleed build
Finished a no magic / summon run, malenia was the hardest by far. Took me 14 hours in total. In the end I could consistently parry her and that makes for an exciting fight. Can really recommend doing such a run if you haven't already
@@anonisnoone6125 Yeah almost every attack can be parried, you just need to learn the different timings. For some attacks you press the parry button when you see orange sparks from her sword, look out for those. She only staggers after three succesvol parried attacks. Good luck!
Bell bearing hunter and Godskin Apostle from Caelid, Draconic Tree Sentinel , valiant gargoyle duo. If we try to fight them early on in the game, they are almost impossible.
Sad to see Maliketh didn't make this list . He is the only boss in ER I had to use summon but still got my ass spanked. Mainly because of his life draining effect in mid-fight along with some massive damage output+combos. By far the hardest boss I have faced beside Midir. I think both Astel and Fallingstar beast are useless spot on this list. Should've been Maliketh and Dragonlord Placidusax
Fr, I don't remember having any real trouble with the Fallingstar Beast. I think every boss that came before it on the list gave me a harder time, shouldn't have been on the list at all imo. I remember utilizing my horse quite a bit during that battle tho and all their footage is on foot so maybe that's why? Haven't fought Astel tho so can't say on that one
Yea Astel was tough until Ik his obvious patterns and then starbeast was just an upset cow. I fought it on foot and just avoided its attacks until it died.
You can bring a couple of items to help with Mohg, first you can bring Mohg's shackle to use on him in his first phase, and secondly you completely nullify his blood curse attack with the purifying crystal tear in the flask of wonderous physick. He's also weak to gravity, which I didn't learn until after I killed him I had a far rougher time with Maliketh the black blade. 😅
Radahn was relatively easy for me since a ton of NPCs help in that fight. For Fallingstar Beast, it can be cheesed if u sneak up behind him and constantly use Poison Mist incantantation on him. For Godskin Duo, summoning the NPC before the fight made it much easier. Crazy how Rykard and Maliketh didn't make it on this list. Draconic Tree Sentinel Knight guarding the Leyndell can also be cheesed by sneaking behind him and using Poison Mist incantation.
A tip for anyone trying Malenia, try Mohg’s spear. It’s cheap yes, but holy hell is it effective. Bloodboon ritual does massive damage on top of huge amounts of bleed. For added damage, try the lord of blood’s exaultion talisman and the white mask (the mask you have to get before killing mohg, which I didn’t realize). Throw a mimic tear in if you want and you have a nightmare build for a nightmare boss. I can consistently get passed her first phase and about halfway through her second, and I’m not even a bleed build whatsoever, so you arcane users will have a field day with her.
Well, I've played Elden Ring about four times and I've never feared to challenge any of these bosses (tbh some of them ARE quite hard). But the only Souls-Boss I've NEVER challenged again was Darkeater Midir in the DLC of Dark Souls 3
Small remind: radahn before nerf is very hard even with summons, mohg used to count from sex to unus (sex, quinquer, Quatour, Tres, Duo, Unus and then Nihil) which means he might Nihil u 6 times instead of 3 times like the current version
Honorable mentions (some of them should've made the list, honestly) - Beast Cleric/Maliketh: Extremely agile and damaging even in the first phase, where he only wields his Cinquedea and throws rocks and pebbles at you. One attack in particular is a double slash with another slash after, which is perfectly delayed to catch a panic/buffered roll. The added damage over time/max hp reduction on every hit, plus the extraordinarily difficult to escape wide sweeping and AoE attacks in the second phase make Malileth frightening to a lore-accurate degree. - Alecto: Optional boss that, similar to Malileth, is speedy and relentless, and has attacks that deal damage over time and reduce max hp. However, the thing that really sets this one apart is the setting. Fighting Alecto in an Evergaol means no summons, no spirit ashes, no horse. It's just and only you against this Black Knife Assassin in her prime, and it's really tough. I had to rely heavily on parrying available attacks with a Miséricorde to best her. - Dragonlord Placidusax: Oh my, the damage. Many attacks of his are more than capable of killing you outright unless you made a specific and generous investment in hp. Take, for example, the eponymous Lightning Nuke, or his lightning-storm-calling-teleportative-divebomb-into-dual-wield-Midir-plasma-beam... thing he does. That, and his hp is no joke either. A very rewarding fight for how tucked-away he is in Faram Azula. - The Crucible Duo: one of the few boss fights in Elden Ring, or any FromSoft game, to be nerfed, even if only indirectly, I'm surprised at how much these two are forgotten; perhaps it's more accurate to say that memory of them has been repressed. These two disciples of Godfrey used to be really hard to get away from. At one point, one of the most viable strategies to deal with these two was to chain parries, as that's how often they would attack you. They can stomp like Godfrey, they can knock you down, they can give chase to such a degree that healing without punishment is a legitimate challenge. Plus, each of them has a second phase where they fly around and at you with impunity. If pre-patch Radhan would be in the top three, so too would pre-patch Crucible Duo. - Lichdragon Fortissax: He's hamstrung by his awkward placement in the game's progression, but taken on at an appropriate level, he's a right scary boss. Lightning storms that leave deathblight clouds, flying red lightning glaive spin attacks, akimbo red lightning stakes, red lightning that tracks your movements etc. It's a shame that he doesn't have more health, and that the rest of his moveset is rather copy-paste from the other ancient dragons; on top of the fact that, to get to him, you either have to defeat sewer Mohg or the Gargoyle Duo in Siofra Aqueduct. Given his significance to the lore of Elden Ring and that he safeguards a secret ending, this is a boss that, in my opinion, deserves to rank among the toughest in the game... but he can't, how he is now.
I'm always hearing that lichdragon fortissax is so hard. But when I approached him I was level 550 so I killed him in 5 hits. Want to try him on lower level again to get this difficulty so many talkin' about.
For me , the second (maybe first) most difficult fight is with alecto , very fast, very agile, hitting very hard, hitpoints are insane, and the worst part at all, you have to defeat her on your own, no summons, no spirit ashes, no horse, but on the other hand, the reward is very good , almost trivializes any boss fight ( except malenia)

It took me like 40 tries to beat Melenia, but once I change my build to bleed build and used my mimic tear. It was pretty easy from there. Getting help from other players seem to make her harder since the extra health she got.
there are some annoying ass people who ridicule others for using bleed, "Oh tHat'S ChEAtiNG". Bruhhh, its there in the game, why shouldn't I use it. I still remember, I defeated malenia in the first try, my friend was like "you used bleed, that's cheating". I was level 252 at that time, and bleed was overpowered in patch 1.02 so maybe that helped.
@@gamernathman7207 bleed means u lack the skill that’s all. Like you couldn’t say “I killed her” you’d have to say “I killed her using bleed” it’s just not the same regardless of it being in the game or not.
@@KiDD2Keen nah bruh just nah, thinking like that would prob invalidate Frost rot+poison procs alongside magic. U still got to have the mechanical skills Down to not be mince meat by the start of phase 2. I understand what you mean but its just incredibly gate keeping unknowingly or not
First playthrough was a breeze for me due to the fact I used spirit summoning and took the time to level before most bosses. Many may consider spirit summoning some kind of "cheating" or "easy mode" and I can truly see why, but this was my first souls game and I wasn't aware of the hardcore traditions. Of course you can play whatever way you like, but lately I've found that soloing bosses is where the fun and misery reside.
@@bjornklockljung291 Yeah I know what you're talking about. I found that using magic or bleed Builds makes your life way easier, especially if you spamming spells and weapon skills like moonveil and Rivers of Blood (pre nerf?) while your spirit summon is distracting the boss. It can't get easier than this if that's what you're going for.
if anyone is stuck on malenia and dont mind using summons, i would recommend using black knife tiche. When i tested her on the fight, she pretty much solo'ed malenia
It's awesome how past experiences can aid you in this game, the Fallingstar beasts is trivial for me because I'm used to observing this kind of creatures because I played Monster Hunter.
@@LuxOfZodiacs I found that treating it like Tigrex (just making sure to stay out of the way of the charge) kinda helped me. Honestly the Fallingstar Beasts are some of my favorite bosses and a friend of mine is baffled that I can beat them semi easily. Still a Fromsoft boss so I definitely die to them more often then this comment lets on.

Margit was... a cake walk for me. I had done all of the weeping peninsula and like half of Caelid by the time I got to him so according to the forums I was 30 levels overleveled (how was I supposed to know?) I just stood infront of him and kept swinging away at him and he couldn't really do much damage to me at all - I'd only leveled vigor at that point, which only increases max HP and yet I don't think I needed to flask once despite like never dodging nor parrying. He was just really disappointing from all I'd heard about him
Can confirm. I summoned all the backup dancers and then hosed him down with Rot and just watched his health tick away. Didn’t even have to attack him directly after that. Doused once per phase while he was distracted with the rabble and that was all she wrote.
The Gargoyles were one of the toughest fights for me, even with a mimic tear. All the other bosses have their challenges, but I can usually muscle my way through it with my mimic. The gargoyles always made short work of my mimic, and I was about lvl 200. They are top 3 in difficulty in my opinion.
Ive gone through the game up to farum azula so far and the only boses so far that gave me issues were the godskin noble, godrick, the fire giant, mohg, and placidusax
I just got all of the achievements in elden ring last night. The last play through, I had a crazy time trying to beat the a few of the final bosses. It took me a few days to take down the beast clergyman, godfrey, and radigon/eldenbeast. Hopefully we get dlc or something on the future.
I really struggle with crowd control in this game. I’m two years late to the game, but damn I’m enjoying it for the first time. Very few walkthroughs, 20 hours in limgrave before moving on, just learned the true size of the map, and I am blown away.
The physic tear does nullify the damage you take from Mogh's attack but he still recovers his HP and that still sucks. If you have a lot of flasks to sacrifice, the tear doesn't really change much. I guess it does give you more opportunity to attack instead of healing.
It is Amazing how the build you go with can DRASTICALLY change the experience you have with different bosses. Most of these were absolute pains in the butt ... but I beat Astel on my second try. His attacks are so broad, telegraphed and slow, I was able to double team him with my Mimic using Dragon Breath attacks at mid distance and friggin MELTED his health bar. That stupid gravity slam got me good the first time though. Fire Giant almost made me quit the game until I worked out the Torrent Dismount i-frame timing and just hacked him to bits.
Why is the godskin duo considered that difficult by the community I don't understand?! By the time you see them you should be scary OP and if you've done his quest you can summon in Bernhal. The full-grown fallingstar beast is the most underrated difficult boss in the game. Also fun fact, when he does his charge towards you, if you time a charged attack to hit him it will stun him, doesn't matter which weapon you use!
You aren’t wrong about your claim, however, some players may have not been able to summon Bernhal or wanted to solo (or use spirit ash). So, really, the Godskin Duo is difficult because of how they are fundamentally the worst duo boss compared to something like Ornstein and Smough, Sister Friede and Demon Princes from Dark Souls. At the very least each mob separates from one another to give the player time to fight one at a time, but the Godskin Duo is the opposite, as they stick to one another like glue and are stupid aggressive, being a sign of regression of balance in the duo fights.
@@NemesisUmbral I dunno, I've done them without the summon too and I do understand they are difficult and annoying but they seem to he constantly referred to as like a top 5 boss in this game in terms of difficulty and I just don't see it. There are several boss encounters I just find way more threatening.
I agree with the full-grown fallingstar beast it is really difficult to beat him on foot I had to use torrent. His hitboxes are wide and his body is literally covered in stone so melee attacks don’t do much damage. Add to that his movement. It’s so agile you can’t do a full combo without getting damaged in return. And lastly his spells, omg, it’s almost impossible to outrun and dodge his aoe spells without torrent.
@@nenram.5786Nah trust me, the fight is waaaaay easier on foot once you learn the dodges. Torrent doesn't give you the flexibility you need and you will just be missing all the good openings while on horseback. If you are a purely physical damage build you will struggle either way, but always aim for his head and combine sideways sprinting for his magic attack and well timed forward rolls when he charges and he gets A LOT easier.

I beat Malenia a few days ago. I have to agree, she was by far the toughest boss in the game. Fighting her is an exercise in frustration. I managed it with the Blasphemous Blade.

How you guys do it?? I’m stuck on her right now and I can’t do shit against her. Only once did I manage to beat her, only to realize that she has a second phase and by then I was out of healing flasks and got wrecked
In my first playthrough as a Strength build I found Milenia difficult but I did it in probably 15 to 20 tries. Radagon/Elden Beast was my most difficult because i died like 40 to 50 times. One of the bosses that were really OP was the Darth Vader type Briar Knight bosses. They hit hard!
My character was also a Strength build. I put Cragblade on my Greatsword and applied Bleed affinity to it, then summoned my Mimic Tear. It took me days to beat her (only attempting her for 1-2 hours each day). Together, with the Cragblade, jump attack, and Bleed affinity, my Mimic Tear and I could bleed and stagger Malenia, and this would have been a hard but fair fight if she just didn't have Waterfowl Dance. I only summoned my Mimic Tear to act as a magnet for that move, really. Thank you for your sacrifice, Mimic Tear!
I think my favorite aspect of this game is that collectively, we all experience the bosses differently. For me, Astel was almost as easy as the tutorial boss.
Astel darkness is the worst he has a attack where clone himself 10 times and grabs you and instakillyou, he is easy but that attack is bs. You never know which astel is the one you have to avoid.
I beat Radahn on my first try. I was incredibly lucky. Managed to get >50% of his health before he killed all of my summons. I did this with a +6 Moonveil only. I can't overemphasize how lucky I was. Spammed roll and avoided even the meteor. Astel was another story of course. Took me about an hour. You learn that certain attacks can only be dodged by sprinting away (as opposed to rolling away). You mustn't be greedy and you have to keep your patience.
I was stuck on Mohg, Lord of Blood for days before I realized you can use the flask to negate his blood loss damage but even after using the flask, he was still a hard fight
Interesting list. I have a lot of trouble with the Full-Grown Falling Star Beast, but I think that Astel is actually pretty easy. The only major threat is his grab attack which will often one-shot you. Of course, for a lot of these bosses, when you choose to fight them has a big impact on how hard they'll be (end-game bosses excluded, of course), so even Radahn can be quite easy to solo if you go into the fight at a high enough level. One thing that's worth mentioning about Malenia is that she is much more aggressive in her second phase. She does a lot of the same attacks, and throws in some new ones, of course, but the thing that makes this phase so hard for me is how utterly relentless she is. It's not hard to find a moment to heal in phase one, but in phase two it can be nearly impossible. Being aggressive and exploiting her low poise is the most effective way I've found to fight her (bleed works well, too).
I recently took down the Full Grown Fallingstar Beast with powerstanced flails, and honestly, it’s not that hard, especially when taking advantage of the terrain to dodge or make head hits easy. Its move set is pretty simple, and it has a lot of attacks that open its head for a smack. There are some bosses, though, or some statements on this list, at least, that feel like the person didn’t really pay attention during the boss fight, which is sad. The Godskin Duo really isn’t that hard, especially the Noble, when you can simply use the pillars to your advantage and deny them some nice hits. I’m not even a veteran, I only have about 2 souls games before I played Elden Ring, and played Nioh before, but really the most difficult part of Elden Ring imo was when bosses would delay their attacks a lot (looking at you, the Mo brothers), but even then, you get used to it.
Should’ve mentioned that legend “Let me solo her” for Malenia, the dude’s killed her like 2000 times by now and has even been officially recognized by FromSoftware. Now THAT’S an achievement.
@@1003JustinLaw Funnily enough, you can. Malenia really isn't as difficult as you think, when you've fought her multiple times and know the ranges that bring out certain attacks. Hence why you see level 1 players beating her.
I am watching a pure melee player. He has excellent timing with the buttons to use at the precise time. If you can't parry, then nightmares. An excellent game to test your patience and wits.
The first boss that I found challenging was the Black Knife Ringleader coz I was too much focused on a magic build and so I was poor on close combat. Oh man it took me tries to get my Black Knife Tiche spirit ashes only for me to use the mici tear ashes
Right!! I was a mage on my first playthrough and the ringleader was the hardest boss for me by far, when I tried a melee playthrough i did it first try in like 30 seconds lol
Surprised there was no mention of the Death Rite Bird. First FromSoft game for me, the bosses I struggled the most against were in no particular order Malenia, Death Rite Bird, Fire Giant, Radahn, Red Wolf (I think I was underleveled for him, but it took ages. Also an annoying corpse run, there should definitely have been a stake of marika closer to him LOL)
Craziest thing just happened to me. I am a first time Elden Ring player. Only ever played half of Bloodborne then quit cause it was too hard. Never played any other souls game. And today...I beat the Godskin Duo first try. LOL. I was in a discord call with a friend who has beat Elden Ring (He saw me first try them live, I was sharing my screen) and he was so surprised and pissed at the same time cause I didn't suffer like he did back when he fought them. Have yet to beat the game yet. Still playing.
Don't forget for a little while Malenias health regen was busted and would get triple the heal on hit. To the brave masters who have beaten her during that phase deserve a medal 🏅. I however am not among those people

I finished all bloodborne and sekiro bosses but Malenia is making me insane! 9 hrs and counting! as a pure str great sword user its a nightmare sl141 btw
Powerstanced GS did the trick for me. Dont really like using ultras for her because of the fat recovery. Dragoncrest greatshield talisman and defensive buffs help too
Malenia is easy once you get to know the fight, but Placidusaxx is just something else. A dragon that spits lightning flames and throws red lightning like zeus on the 1st phase, then proceeds to become a cloud that teleports and can swipe you in an instant from the sky for its second phase, and late in the fight the dragon turns it's lightning breath into a lazer and teleports more frequently for the third phase. That's right, Placidusaxx has 3 phases and not a single mention as a hard boss. It took me 3.5 hours to finally beat that dragon for its heart and rememberance.
Placid wasn't tough for me, in fact, neither of the ancient dragons were. Malenia gave me the business, I think it was 37 times total (as that was all of my great runes 😅)
I actually first attempted Malenia. It was all thanks to my mimic though. He was putting in some stagger work. Only time she did any notable damage was her initial attack lol scared the crap out of me
Mohg was easy for me... though pretty tough for the other 2 who attacked him while I shouted encouragement from behind a pillar.

I think Maliketh is much harder than any other save Melania and Mohg. Astel isn't even in the same league.

His first phase isn't that bad; and his health pool is small compared to the other bosses. Give him about 10k more health and he'd be near the top of the list.

Anyone remember pre-nerf Radahn on release week?... an absolute force to be reckoned with. Insane hit box and one-shotting great arrows that made you wanna throw your controller through the TV. Poor guy is a pushover now
Took me 37 tries to beat pre-nerf Radahn at RL68.
Next playthrough after he was nerfed, he felt like a total pushover at RL57
They should have never nerfed Radahn

And all that because everyone fights him extremely under leveled and can't understand he is a mid game boss. I fought pre nerf radahn at level 75 which is the level you are supposed to be and he was a lot more fair, fun and easier but everyone needs to be stubborn nowdays.
Literally ran circles around him and hit him with comet shard, he died in like 2 min...2nd playthrough I fought him melee and holy crap was that different experience! He destroyed me, alot!

That time was one of the best gaming experience in my life. Like you said It's much different when you actually played it and experienced it with everyone else at the same time. I feel like if you play it late then you lose a part of that experience.

I went back to playing Sekiro to get all the endings (best Fromsoft game imo). Just now coming back to Elden Ring again.
Elden ring was my first from software game so I went straight to Margit severely under leveled. Didn't know the controls very well but was still determined to beat him. Took me around 4 hours of non stop trying until I finally got it done. That was such a great feeling of accomplishment that I had not felt from a game in a very long time.
That's why so many of us are drawn to the series. The game will let you both persist and persevere with little gear or go around and level up first. Both feel satisfying when you killed him because he can still be difficult even with a few levels. The game makes your choices and styles feel satisfying. There's skill involved, but the game wants you to succeed. It gives you the means to do it everywhere.
This my 1st from software too. I honestly roamed around and died everywhere else before i even knew how to follow along the story. I got to him pretty leveled up amd he was still pretty rough lol

Twin gargoyles at nokron were tough for me. Also from non bosses, the Crucible Knights and the Runebears gave me more hard time than most of the bosses you refered. Thats elden ring i guess

I got stuck on the Fallingstar Beast in the Sellia Crystal Tunnel for so long that I eventually learned him well and beat him. Little did I know, I would have to fight the fully-grown one. But, beat him first try with all that practice.
I always love that with some bosses, they seem almost impossible at first but with practice, they become easy.

Exactly, yesterday I rage over that guy in Crumbling Farum Azula after I finished up the Black Blade. Finished him up with my Giant Crusher (S scaling 980+ damage).
i died 50+ times to him. but margrit died only 15+- times. ( not a souls gamer at all).
Am i the only one that still thinks the crucible knights tandem was unquestionably difficult. (Assuming you went straight up)

I think commander niall is worth mentioning. I beat starscourage and the fire giant, but Niall was so impossible.

Completely with the sentiment that the Fire Giant is the start of a very long stretch of bosses that get more and more increasingly difficult until the very end. Theres a lot of them that just have attacks that just go on and on and you find yourself just standing or dodging moves waiting to attack in a tiny window.
I found the fire giant incredibly easy once you dodge the first wave attack, got him on my 3rd attempt, the wave was just killing me, I just got to his legs and started to hit him
@@Laccc I meant like he said in the video that the fire giant started the steep endgame bosses. I got to maliketh soon after and he hit me like a freight train. He’s trying first boss I couldn’t help but use summons on.
Don’t know if this is a dig at the end game bosses or not, but Malekith is the best boss in the game mechanics wise imo.
Try and no hit him. If you get it (and you will), it’s the “purest” boss fight I’ve encountered in any Soulsbournekiro game. Seriously, whoever designed that boss fight is big brained af.
First time I fought him I thought he was so broken and cheap…then I actually learned the fight and wow was I wrong.

My character is currently level 547. You have no idea what joy it is to just melt bosses with Comet Azur or simply that rancor call spell.
Dunno how Maliketh doesn’t make the list. After experimenting with many builds over multiple playthrus, I can say that even while playing with the broken bleed builds he is extremely dangerous due to his damage and moveset. Which is not something you can say about most of the bosses, even Melania to a degree imo

Not gonna lie elden ring was my 1st game in dark Souls franchise and at start I was like I wasted money on the game but after I beat margit it was a amazing feeling and I was motivated to get more challenging bosses after 150 hours I finally completed the main story and still exploring the world
a sense of reward for completing tasks around the world is nice
I got to Margit and realized I was in for an entire game of cheap BS and frustration where the reward doesn’t equal the grief, not even close.
Margit with his offset telegraphed attacks and just nonstop block and dodging literally ruined that whole game for me.
So much so that I’m not even sure I’m wrong about how cheap it is. Devs trolling me after giving them all that money is how I feel about it. Not opposed to hard games, but I am opposed to BS passed off as git güd…
@@Trigger200284 It's okey happened with me also, I will suggest you to not rush and explore the limbgrave area and upgrade your level and find better armour and a weapon to beat Margit. I am 100% sure after you beat him you can't stop playing the game.
the point of the game is to learn from your mistakes and improve. all the mechanics are intentionally designed down to the last detail. none of it is just "bullshit". don't go hollow, brave tarnished. rejoin the fight and try again.

Makes me miss pre-patch Radahn. He was honestly up there with Maliketh and Malenia, particularly because you can get to him quite underlevelled if you get the invite to the Festival through Ranni's questline.

The secret dragon boss was such an incredible experience. A proper souls atmosphere.

The Elden Beast ended up being fairly easy. Easier to learn than Radagon, and easier to fight. Elden Beast is only difficult if you try to chase after him through the whole battle. If you play defensive, and wait till it does its big ring attack and you run away from where it's at when it spawns the ring. It will always come up out of the water right next to you and give you some free hits before starting an attack or running away (It usually runs away in my experience). By waiting for the rings, you can then focus on just dodging attacks which for the most part is pretty easy. Only challenging attack is when it swings the sword and throws out those blades of light at you.
Oh I legit just got enough health and other versions of defense so I can attack most of the time and now I realize I turned into a tank because I fought god
I legit kicked radagon's ass after about three tries but the elden beast really f'd me up. Took a solid 15 tries at least
Radagon was sooo much worse for me. The staggered / fast attacks and some attacks lightning fast with minimal animated indication as to what he might be doing. Radagon alone took me about 20 tries to learn, but I killed the Elden Beast in 3 attempts. Just let it run away from me and spammed Radan's rain from the lion greatbow

@@lucasantolik9960 I use to lead raids in WoW a long time ago. Had to get good at explaining fights, and what to do when. Especially when the raid had members that required you to spell out exactly what they needed to do, only to stand in fire anyways. I've thought of trying to be a creator though, but I don't have the time or charisma.

The hardest boss for me was Black Blade Maliketh.
I tried to do the whole game on my own. No spirits. But Maliketh was just a brick wall for me. I had to give in and get the mimic tear.
An intern in my team quit Elden Ring because of him and I cant blame him for it
The whole kill-you-in-one-hit thing gets pretty bad late in the game, but Maliketh takes it to the next level. The problem I had is that in his second form he's never in the same place he was when you were just fighting him, so sometimes he'd kill me before I knew where he was.
60 Vigor with 25 Endurance + Greatjar's Arsenal will help you with tanking. Already tested that. Beaten the game 14 times already.

It took me longer to defeat Malenia but honestly I hated the Radagon fight way more then Malenia. I was able to figure her out eventually. Radagon on the other hand has mixup attack patterns that make it nearly impossible... I'd fight her over him anyday.

I mean yeah she's fun to fight. She has low poise so you can stunlock her + she has really cool combos that feel so great to dodge. But freaking Elden beast is boss that just teleports all over the HUGE arena shooting from the distance... If we could use steed it would be WAY less frustrating.
I dont know if it’s because i used mimic tear. But only malenia gave me a bit of trouble. Where i had to try over 2 hours i guess. All the other bosses i defeated them on first try.

I love Malenia’s first phase, it’s very enjoyable to learn and counter and it’s fair. But absolutely hate her 2nd phase, it’s confusing to learn her attacks because her wings make it difficult to see. Elden Ring’s bosses demands incredible patience compared to other fromsoftware games because bosses almost never stop attacking and if you don’t want to trade attacks you’ll only be getting 2 hits in max after every 10-15 attacks you have to dodge. As someone who absolutely loved the Bloodborne and Sekiro gameplay, from a pure gameplay perspective I’m not sure I like Elden Ring because melee-only builds don’t work too well and it really encourages ranged attacks or using summons when it comes to many of the tough bosses. And summons make bosses so much easier there is almost no challenge at all.
Astel definitely has a devastating signature move. If you've been caught in it's grab, then you know

The first time I got to him he kicked my arse. Twice. I then went "sod this" and went exploring and when I finally remembered that I had to fight him he was a breeze and I owned him. (I killed him without him hitting me)
hardest thing about malenia is dealing with waterfowl dance, that's what takes it from hard but fair to insane IMO.

I'd argue you can deal with it 80-90% of the time if you catch the telegraph early enough but if you get caught in the wrong place positioning wise when she starts up this attack you are simply dead

I feel weird regarding Malenia: found out you can stop the Waterfowl Dance with an ice pot. And even if you can't runaway or stop her, you can easily block her first wave, dodge the second and literally stand still in the third. She has become more manageable.
Special Mention goes to The Red Wolf of Radagon. SPECIFICALLY: The one at the Moonlight Altar area. I swear that thing may be one of the most aggressive enemies with the smallest openings and biggest health pools in the game. I took the "boss" version of this beast (at Raya Lucaria) down in under 5 tries.
I'd argue that the one in the Consecrated Snowfield is _FAR_ worse, because that one you're fighting almost blind because of the low visibility from the blizzard around that whole area. Both times doing it so far have been the most deaths that I've had to a boss other than Malenia.

Absolutely _brutal._ I'm on Journey 3 now and I always make a point of exploring everywhere, but I'm still dreading that encounter, haha.

I feel like Maliketh, the black blade should have been on here, even as an honorable mention. Same with Commander Niall. Maliketh is Super aggressive like the falling star beast, and similarly is hard to keep track of. Commander Niall isn't as wild, but the two spirit knight guys he has make it frustrating AF.
100% agree. I dont why, but it took me over 6 hours to beat Maliketh whereas I beat the falling star beast on my third try.
How is he not? My kryptonite. On NG+7 and he has been the one boss that just owns me since NG+4. Just don't have it down.
Niall is also shockingly easily wrecked with just one bewitching branch on his minions. Don't even attack them. Just hit them with the branch, stand back and watch his own men kick the crap out of him
Nialls knights felt tedious, not necessarily hard. The walk also sucks relative to the rest of games walk, Niall himself is relatively easy to learn, it just takes to so much time to rematch him 1v1

There's a few bosses I'd say are tougher than Margit. Black Kindred, Maliketh, Placidusax, and the twin gargoyles all come to mind
when I played, placidusax was a cake walk using bleed on him. Not sure if they ever balanced bleed

@@tqvur6402 If you straight up melee he can be hard. But he has a lot of weaknesses, the most fun way I did (and quite fast) was with that bubble blowing horn (the long one).
Also with magic he wasn't too hard. He is a bit like Midir, big health bar, so the fight can last a bit, so I suspect the more impatient ones are the ones finding him hard.
I somehow had a harder time with the Caelid Bell Bearing Hunter than I did with any of these bosses

Margitt being hard as a boss is a good design because it makes you think: Hey, I don't have the level yet, I have to farm. And you end exploring the first area more carefully and discover you have to do a lot of things before going against him. It is very well done boss for people who comes from the more linear leves of the rest of souls.
I'm a bit of a souls veteran, and the bosses I struggled with most were the ones with staggered attack timing and varied attack chains. Some bosses, even on this list, were fairly predictable and you could read their moves pretty easily. Some of them were just hell. I think there is going to be a big difference between what bosses longtime souls players find hard and the ones people new to the series find hard, and I love that. This game is a challenge for new player, but also manages to challenge longtime veterans, and in the end of the day, we all get to have our asses kicked together, lol
i struggled more with the first evergaol crucible knight than with more of those bosses lol

I found that this list was good but found most of everything doable. Except Radahn and Mohg. As a mage, I didn't put THAT much in health. Basically had to be perfect as a glass cannon. Finally did it but sheesh. Found that malenia and the final boss was actually EASIER than those two bosses I mentioned. Finally got all the achievements. I thought I loved Bloodborne but elden ring for 200 hours of my time and is now my favorite soulsborne game.
@@lovelesswing458 I still find bloodborne to be my favourite, just walking through and feeling the atmosphere of yharnam and all the secrets behind the place and the connectivity of the world is just on another level. Lore is without a doubt the best for me

The second-tier boss fight of two crucible knights at Auriza Hero's Grave was a great one to rattle your wits. It made me wonder about the more challenging bosses that were yet to come...

Toughest in the game for me, but I was maybe underlevelled there and overlevelled for Mohg and Radahn, who I had no trouble with.
Comet azure was the only way I could beat this fight. I died more here than anywhere else.... except Malenia.

Just finished my first playthrough and beat all of these solo; boy were some of them hard and frustrating. Even so, I immediately started a ng+. What a great game!
Honestly we have to thank everyone at gameranx because they have been on the grind lately giving us content after content (Also that was the first time i ever seen the elden beast hit someone with that move super cool looking thank god i never even seen him do it in my fights with him)

My first time fighting margit I got him down to almost no health, would’ve only taken one more hit to beat him……but I got greedy and ran in to swing and got caught in one of his combos and he obliterated my health, didn’t even have a chance to heal

As vagabund it took me 6 hours at level 26 with weapon lv 3, but with samurai i did him at lv 11. But then he had like 10 HP, i had full health and 3 pots left and then i fell off the cliff on the side

Margit is a hard first boss because unlike the rest of the souls games being extremely linear, elden ring is a game about exploration. The devs of the game purposefully made Margit hard to incentivize players to kick back and go explore the world to gain exp, gear, meet certain characters, and obtain items for later in the game.
The whole game is meant to be an experience and not a straight path.
Yeah. A french youtuber tried to beat Margit without going in the open world to farm on his first playthrough, he killed him in 7 hours in total. On my first playthrough I discovered the open world etc, and I killed him within 6 or 7 tries. There's a huge gap between a non leveled player and a leveled player who took the time to explore, especially on this boss
If only I knew that before clearing whole stormveil castle right away.. But what's bad about that is if you really explore everything some bosses get too easy, decreases the joy when you actually beat them. Morgott, took like 10 secs bitch didn't even got time to get phase 2, that was really disappointing..

I remember the joy of defeating Margit... But then i saw Godfrey.
Not a boss, but the hardest fight for me in the entire Elden Ring game was the Bell Bearing Hunter 4 in Dragonbarrow. With melee, it took me so many hours to defeat him, many many many hours. You pretty much have to be perfect because of how hard he hits, and all of his attacks are on different timings, just an absolutely brutal fight. Dodging into him helps but you still have to be perfect

I killed him with fall damage bc where he is located is near a big cliff but it took me about 20 to 30 min to finally get it😅

I was doing a meleebuild for my first playthrough, and struggled with every Briar eventually besting them. Then I made a mage and all I did was blast them, cause they rarely run towards you. I was so mad... haha.

Malenia was such a beast. I cheesed through whole game as a spellcaster but she tore me a new one. Like 20 times. Finally broke down and respeced to a bloodloss build.
Don’t feel bad. My first time trying to take her on I used a Black Blade build and, after like 5 hours of dying, I caved and respeced to Rivers of Blood
@@SeraphimArtist i mained Eleonaras Poleblade, the bleed coupled with the crazy Poise damage allowed me to crit nonstop.
It took me like 2 days to beat her with the starscourge swords because that's the only weapon I was using it's crazy hard to beat her without using a bleed build
I stayed Mage and tried fighting her normally till I gave up and used a Mimic and came up with a mage build strat to beat her. Its on my channel.

Finished a no magic / summon run, malenia was the hardest by far. Took me 14 hours in total. In the end I could consistently parry her and that makes for an exciting fight. Can really recommend doing such a run if you haven't already

I beat her a few days ago with powerstance curved swords and it also took me around 15 hours.. My thumb is still in pain haha

@@anonisnoone6125 Yeah almost every attack can be parried, you just need to learn the different timings. For some attacks you press the parry button when you see orange sparks from her sword, look out for those. She only staggers after three succesvol parried attacks. Good luck!
Putrid Tree Spirit was pretty challenging for me more than most of the bosses in this list. especially if it do rot damage

Bell bearing hunter and Godskin Apostle from Caelid, Draconic Tree Sentinel , valiant gargoyle duo. If we try to fight them early on in the game, they are almost impossible.
Sad to see Maliketh didn't make this list . He is the only boss in ER I had to use summon but still got my ass spanked. Mainly because of his life draining effect in mid-fight along with some massive damage output+combos. By far the hardest boss I have faced beside Midir. I think both Astel and Fallingstar beast are useless spot on this list. Should've been Maliketh and Dragonlord Placidusax
Fr, I don't remember having any real trouble with the Fallingstar Beast. I think every boss that came before it on the list gave me a harder time, shouldn't have been on the list at all imo. I remember utilizing my horse quite a bit during that battle tho and all their footage is on foot so maybe that's why? Haven't fought Astel tho so can't say on that one
Yea Astel was tough until Ik his obvious patterns and then starbeast was just an upset cow. I fought it on foot and just avoided its attacks until it died.
You can bring a couple of items to help with Mohg, first you can bring Mohg's shackle to use on him in his first phase, and secondly you completely nullify his blood curse attack with the purifying crystal tear in the flask of wonderous physick. He's also weak to gravity, which I didn't learn until after I killed him I had a far rougher time with Maliketh the black blade. 😅
It probably doesn't count as a boss but the three ulcerated tree spirits in the capital of ash are close to Malenia in terms of difficulty in my book.

@@562.anthony2 I cheesed that thing, standing on a tree branch shooting radahn arrows. After fighting that same boss 4 times I stopped caring
that tree spirit in the haligtree city was for sure insanity with the golden shot thing.
Radahn was relatively easy for me since a ton of NPCs help in that fight. For Fallingstar Beast, it can be cheesed if u sneak up behind him and constantly use Poison Mist incantantation on him. For Godskin Duo, summoning the NPC before the fight made it much easier. Crazy how Rykard and Maliketh didn't make it on this list. Draconic Tree Sentinel Knight guarding the Leyndell can also be cheesed by sneaking behind him and using Poison Mist incantation.

I had more issues with Gascoigne as a first non-optional boss. However Margit is a very close second
A tip for anyone trying Malenia, try Mohg’s spear. It’s cheap yes, but holy hell is it effective. Bloodboon ritual does massive damage on top of huge amounts of bleed. For added damage, try the lord of blood’s exaultion talisman and the white mask (the mask you have to get before killing mohg, which I didn’t realize). Throw a mimic tear in if you want and you have a nightmare build for a nightmare boss. I can consistently get passed her first phase and about halfway through her second, and I’m not even a bleed build whatsoever, so you arcane users will have a field day with her.
Well, I've played Elden Ring about four times and I've never feared to challenge any of these bosses (tbh some of them ARE quite hard). But the only Souls-Boss I've NEVER challenged again was Darkeater Midir in the DLC of Dark Souls 3

Small remind: radahn before nerf is very hard even with summons, mohg used to count from sex to unus (sex, quinquer, Quatour, Tres, Duo, Unus and then Nihil) which means he might Nihil u 6 times instead of 3 times like the current version

Honorable mentions (some of them should've made the list, honestly)
- Beast Cleric/Maliketh: Extremely agile and damaging even in the first phase, where he only wields his Cinquedea and throws rocks and pebbles at you. One attack in particular is a double slash with another slash after, which is perfectly delayed to catch a panic/buffered roll. The added damage over time/max hp reduction on every hit, plus the extraordinarily difficult to escape wide sweeping and AoE attacks in the second phase make Malileth frightening to a lore-accurate degree.
- Alecto: Optional boss that, similar to Malileth, is speedy and relentless, and has attacks that deal damage over time and reduce max hp. However, the thing that really sets this one apart is the setting. Fighting Alecto in an Evergaol means no summons, no spirit ashes, no horse. It's just and only you against this Black Knife Assassin in her prime, and it's really tough. I had to rely heavily on parrying available attacks with a Miséricorde to best her.
- Dragonlord Placidusax: Oh my, the damage. Many attacks of his are more than capable of killing you outright unless you made a specific and generous investment in hp. Take, for example, the eponymous Lightning Nuke, or his lightning-storm-calling-teleportative-divebomb-into-dual-wield-Midir-plasma-beam... thing he does. That, and his hp is no joke either. A very rewarding fight for how tucked-away he is in Faram Azula.
- The Crucible Duo: one of the few boss fights in Elden Ring, or any FromSoft game, to be nerfed, even if only indirectly, I'm surprised at how much these two are forgotten; perhaps it's more accurate to say that memory of them has been repressed. These two disciples of Godfrey used to be really hard to get away from. At one point, one of the most viable strategies to deal with these two was to chain parries, as that's how often they would attack you. They can stomp like Godfrey, they can knock you down, they can give chase to such a degree that healing without punishment is a legitimate challenge. Plus, each of them has a second phase where they fly around and at you with impunity. If pre-patch Radhan would be in the top three, so too would pre-patch Crucible Duo.
- Lichdragon Fortissax: He's hamstrung by his awkward placement in the game's progression, but taken on at an appropriate level, he's a right scary boss. Lightning storms that leave deathblight clouds, flying red lightning glaive spin attacks, akimbo red lightning stakes, red lightning that tracks your movements etc. It's a shame that he doesn't have more health, and that the rest of his moveset is rather copy-paste from the other ancient dragons; on top of the fact that, to get to him, you either have to defeat sewer Mohg or the Gargoyle Duo in Siofra Aqueduct. Given his significance to the lore of Elden Ring and that he safeguards a secret ending, this is a boss that, in my opinion, deserves to rank among the toughest in the game... but he can't, how he is now.
I'm always hearing that lichdragon fortissax is so hard. But when I approached him I was level 550 so I killed him in 5 hits. Want to try him on lower level again to get this difficulty so many talkin' about.

I legit didn't have a problem on any of these bosses. Pre-nerf Radahn was a beast, but now that he's been patched, I can beat him in under 30 seconds.

For me , the second (maybe first) most difficult fight is with alecto , very fast, very agile, hitting very hard, hitpoints are insane, and the worst part at all, you have to defeat her on your own, no summons, no spirit ashes, no horse, but on the other hand, the reward is very good , almost trivializes any boss fight ( except malenia)
Bloodborne trains you very well for those kinda bosses lmfao

It took me like 40 tries to beat Melenia, but once I change my build to bleed build and used my mimic tear. It was pretty easy from there. Getting help from other players seem to make her harder since the extra health she got.

there are some annoying ass people who ridicule others for using bleed, "Oh tHat'S ChEAtiNG". Bruhhh, its there in the game, why shouldn't I use it. I still remember, I defeated malenia in the first try, my friend was like "you used bleed, that's cheating". I was level 252 at that time, and bleed was overpowered in patch 1.02 so maybe that helped.

The fact Malikith isn't on this list is wild to me.
First playthrough was a breeze for me due to the fact I used spirit summoning and took the time to level before most bosses. Many may consider spirit summoning some kind of "cheating" or "easy mode" and I can truly see why, but this was my first souls game and I wasn't aware of the hardcore traditions. Of course you can play whatever way you like, but lately I've found that soloing bosses is where the fun and misery reside.
I play astrologer so most boss fights are summon + rock sling
@@bjornklockljung291 Yeah I know what you're talking about. I found that using magic or bleed Builds makes your life way easier, especially if you spamming spells and weapon skills like moonveil and Rivers of Blood (pre nerf?) while your spirit summon is distracting the boss.

It's awesome how past experiences can aid you in this game, the Fallingstar beasts is trivial for me because I'm used to observing this kind of creatures because I played Monster Hunter.

Honestly the Fallingstar Beasts are some of my favorite bosses and a friend of mine is baffled that I can beat them semi easily. Still a Fromsoft boss so I definitely die to them more often then this comment lets on.
@@TheVikingKing125 thats a good idea, I just think it's easier to dodge tigrex, that also doesn't shoot a deathstar beam. Maybe I need to do more hit and run with the beast too. Why do we have to fight against trains in every game xd
Margit was... a cake walk for me. I had done all of the weeping peninsula and like half of Caelid by the time I got to him so according to the forums I was 30 levels overleveled (how was I supposed to know?)
I just stood infront of him and kept swinging away at him and he couldn't really do much damage to me at all - I'd only leveled vigor at that point, which only increases max HP and yet I don't think I needed to flask once despite like never dodging nor parrying. He was just really disappointing from all I'd heard about him
Rotten Breath is a really good way to beat Radahn, everytime you use it takes away roughly a 1/3 of his health
rot is op as fuck it works on every boss but 3 and bleed just makes elden rings difficulty non existent.
Can confirm. I summoned all the backup dancers and then hosed him down with Rot and just watched his health tick away. Didn’t even have to attack him directly after that. Doused once per phase while he was distracted with the rabble and that was all she wrote.
The Gargoyles were one of the toughest fights for me, even with a mimic tear. All the other bosses have their challenges, but I can usually muscle my way through it with my mimic. The gargoyles always made short work of my mimic, and I was about lvl 200. They are top 3 in difficulty in my opinion.

Ive gone through the game up to farum azula so far and the only boses so far that gave me issues were the godskin noble, godrick, the fire giant, mohg, and placidusax
Fire giant took me like ten times. For everyone one else I fought like 1-3 times

I just got all of the achievements in elden ring last night. The last play through, I had a crazy time trying to beat the a few of the final bosses. It took me a few days to take down the beast clergyman, godfrey, and radigon/eldenbeast. Hopefully we get dlc or something on the future.
Yeah dude. I actually had a very hard time on ng+4 beating radagon + beast because my status effect build was worthless
I really struggle with crowd control in this game. I’m two years late to the game, but damn I’m enjoying it for the first time. Very few walkthroughs, 20 hours in limgrave before moving on, just learned the true size of the map, and I am blown away.
The physic tear does nullify the damage you take from Mogh's attack but he still recovers his HP and that still sucks. If you have a lot of flasks to sacrifice, the tear doesn't really change much. I guess it does give you more opportunity to attack instead of healing.

It is Amazing how the build you go with can DRASTICALLY change the experience you have with different bosses. Most of these were absolute pains in the butt ... but I beat Astel on my second try. His attacks are so broad, telegraphed and slow, I was able to double team him with my Mimic using Dragon Breath attacks at mid distance and friggin MELTED his health bar. That stupid gravity slam got me good the first time though.
Fire Giant almost made me quit the game until I worked out the Torrent Dismount i-frame timing and just hacked him to bits.
Why is the godskin duo considered that difficult by the community I don't understand?! By the time you see them you should be scary OP and if you've done his quest you can summon in Bernhal.
The full-grown fallingstar beast is the most underrated difficult boss in the game. Also fun fact, when he does his charge towards you, if you time a charged attack to hit him it will stun him, doesn't matter which weapon you use!
You aren’t wrong about your claim, however, some players may have not been able to summon Bernhal or wanted to solo (or use spirit ash). So, really, the Godskin Duo is difficult because of how they are fundamentally the worst duo boss compared to something like Ornstein and Smough, Sister Friede and Demon Princes from Dark Souls. At the very least each mob separates from one another to give the player time to fight one at a time, but the Godskin Duo is the opposite, as they stick to one another like glue and are stupid aggressive, being a sign of regression of balance in the duo fights.
@@NemesisUmbral I dunno, I've done them without the summon too and I do understand they are difficult and annoying but they seem to he constantly referred to as like a top 5 boss in this game in terms of difficulty and I just don't see it. There are several boss encounters I just find way more threatening.
I found the other bosses on this list wayyyyy harder than the duo or mohg
I agree with the full-grown fallingstar beast it is really difficult to beat him on foot I had to use torrent. His hitboxes are wide and his body is literally covered in stone so melee attacks don’t do much damage. Add to that his movement. It’s so agile you can’t do a full combo without getting damaged in return. And lastly his spells, omg, it’s almost impossible to outrun and dodge his aoe spells without torrent.
@@nenram.5786Nah trust me, the fight is waaaaay easier on foot once you learn the dodges. Torrent doesn't give you the flexibility you need and you will just be missing all the good openings while on horseback. If you are a purely physical damage build you will struggle either way, but always aim for his head and combine sideways sprinting for his magic attack and well timed forward rolls when he charges and he gets A LOT easier.

I beat Malenia a few days ago. I have to agree, she was by far the toughest boss in the game. Fighting her is an exercise in frustration. I managed it with the Blasphemous Blade.
I bet her co-op. no way am i skilled enough to solo her.

How you guys do it?? I’m stuck on her right now and I can’t do shit against her. Only once did I manage to beat her, only to realize that she has a second phase and by then I was out of healing flasks and got wrecked
I killed her with the moonveil katana weapon art and a mimic. Weenie mode
Use blasphemous blade and just spam the ash of war.
In my first playthrough as a Strength build I found Milenia difficult but I did it in probably 15 to 20 tries. Radagon/Elden Beast was my most difficult because i died like 40 to 50 times. One of the bosses that were really OP was the Darth Vader type Briar Knight bosses. They hit hard!
My character was also a Strength build. I put Cragblade on my Greatsword and applied Bleed affinity to it, then summoned my Mimic Tear. It took me days to beat her (only attempting her for 1-2 hours each day). Together, with the Cragblade, jump attack, and Bleed affinity, my Mimic Tear and I could bleed and stagger Malenia, and this would have been a hard but fair fight if she just didn't have Waterfowl Dance. I only summoned my Mimic Tear to act as a magnet for that move, really. Thank you for your sacrifice, Mimic Tear!
For margit the most memorable voice line for me is his whole intro "Foul Tarnished!"
I think my favorite aspect of this game is that collectively, we all experience the bosses differently. For me, Astel was almost as easy as the tutorial boss.
Astel darkness is the worst he has a attack where clone himself 10 times and grabs you and instakillyou, he is easy but that attack is bs.
You never know which astel is the one you have to avoid.
I beat Radahn on my first try. I was incredibly lucky. Managed to get >50% of his health before he killed all of my summons. I did this with a +6 Moonveil only. I can't overemphasize how lucky I was. Spammed roll and avoided even the meteor. Astel was another story of course. Took me about an hour. You learn that certain attacks can only be dodged by sprinting away (as opposed to rolling away). You mustn't be greedy and you have to keep your patience.
how did you have moonviel so early on i got when i reached around lvl 78 and fought radahan while lvl 66
@@Ironcateeyou can get moonveil pretty early I had it by level 50 you just have to beat the wyvern in the cave where you get it
I was stuck on Mohg, Lord of Blood for days before I realized you can use the flask to negate his blood loss damage but even after using the flask, he was still a hard fight

Interesting list. I have a lot of trouble with the Full-Grown Falling Star Beast, but I think that Astel is actually pretty easy. The only major threat is his grab attack which will often one-shot you. Of course, for a lot of these bosses, when you choose to fight them has a big impact on how hard they'll be (end-game bosses excluded, of course), so even Radahn can be quite easy to solo if you go into the fight at a high enough level. One thing that's worth mentioning about Malenia is that she is much more aggressive in her second phase. She does a lot of the same attacks, and throws in some new ones, of course, but the thing that makes this phase so hard for me is how utterly relentless she is. It's not hard to find a moment to heal in phase one, but in phase two it can be nearly impossible. Being aggressive and exploiting her low poise is the most effective way I've found to fight her (bleed works well, too).
I recently took down the Full Grown Fallingstar Beast with powerstanced flails, and honestly, it’s not that hard, especially when taking advantage of the terrain to dodge or make head hits easy. Its move set is pretty simple, and it has a lot of attacks that open its head for a smack.
There are some bosses, though, or some statements on this list, at least, that feel like the person didn’t really pay attention during the boss fight, which is sad. The Godskin Duo really isn’t that hard, especially the Noble, when you can simply use the pillars to your advantage and deny them some nice hits.
I’m not even a veteran, I only have about 2 souls games before I played Elden Ring, and played Nioh before, but really the most difficult part of Elden Ring imo was when bosses would delay their attacks a lot (looking at you, the Mo brothers), but even then, you get used to it.
The Flex Armstrong and Michelin Man duo is hilariously brutal. I'm glad it isn't just me.
Should’ve mentioned that legend “Let me solo her” for Malenia, the dude’s killed her like 2000 times by now and has even been officially recognized by FromSoftware. Now THAT’S an achievement.

@@1003JustinLaw Funnily enough, you can. Malenia really isn't as difficult as you think, when you've fought her multiple times and know the ranges that bring out certain attacks. Hence why you see level 1 players beating her.
I am watching a pure melee player. He has excellent timing with the buttons to use at the precise time. If you can't parry, then nightmares. An excellent game to test your patience and wits.

The first boss that I found challenging was the Black Knife Ringleader coz I was too much focused on a magic build and so I was poor on close combat. Oh man it took me tries to get my Black Knife Tiche spirit ashes only for me to use the mici tear ashes
Right!! I was a mage on my first playthrough and the ringleader was the hardest boss for me by far, when I tried a melee playthrough i did it first try in like 30 seconds lol

First FromSoft game for me, the bosses I struggled the most against were in no particular order Malenia, Death Rite Bird, Fire Giant, Radahn, Red Wolf (I think I was underleveled for him, but it took ages. Also an annoying corpse run, there should definitely have been a stake of marika closer to him LOL)

Craziest thing just happened to me. I am a first time Elden Ring player. Only ever played half of Bloodborne then quit cause it was too hard. Never played any other souls game. And today...I beat the Godskin Duo first try. LOL. I was in a discord call with a friend who has beat Elden Ring (He saw me first try them live, I was sharing my screen) and he was so surprised and pissed at the same time cause I didn't suffer like he did back when he fought them. Have yet to beat the game yet. Still playing.
Don't forget for a little while Malenias health regen was busted and would get triple the heal on hit. To the brave masters who have beaten her during that phase deserve a medal 🏅. I however am not among those people

I finished all bloodborne and sekiro bosses but Malenia is making me insane! 9 hrs and counting! as a pure str great sword user its a nightmare sl141 btw

Powerstanced GS did the trick for me. Dont really like using ultras for her because of the fat recovery. Dragoncrest greatshield talisman and defensive buffs help too
Malenia is easy once you get to know the fight, but Placidusaxx is just something else. A dragon that spits lightning flames and throws red lightning like zeus on the 1st phase, then proceeds to become a cloud that teleports and can swipe you in an instant from the sky for its second phase, and late in the fight the dragon turns it's lightning breath into a lazer and teleports more frequently for the third phase. That's right, Placidusaxx has 3 phases and not a single mention as a hard boss. It took me 3.5 hours to finally beat that dragon for its heart and rememberance.
Placid wasn't tough for me, in fact, neither of the ancient dragons were. Malenia gave me the business, I think it was 37 times total (as that was all of my great runes 😅)
I actually first attempted Malenia. It was all thanks to my mimic though. He was putting in some stagger work. Only time she did any notable damage was her initial attack lol scared the crap out of me
